Chapter 166: What is he thinking.

Sofia made her way through the forest, headed for where she expected Riven to be. All she needed was to be relatively close to him, and she would be able to sense him.

But the forest was doing its most to stop her. Attacks started coming from all directions—E-ranked and F-ranked monsters doing their best to slow her down.

Her anger was beginning to spill over. She did what she could to keep it inside, but with every beast she was forced to face, it was slowly showing.

And finally, when a B-ranked lizardman came out of nowhere—seven feet tall, hard-scaled back, and a cold gaze—it rushed at her and attacked with its tail. She stepped back and dodged the attack.

Her face contorted into one of rage. The calm demeanor she carried vanished. She gripped the staff even tighter and looked at the lizardman.

"I’ve had enough of these games," she said, her voice ice cold. The lizardman, not knowing what it had gotten itself into, lunged forward without care, rushing at her on all fours.

"Screw you!" she yelled and raised her hand. A magical formation formed, and a massive blast of lightning rained down and slammed the lizardman right there.

Boom!

The lizardman cried in pain. Its body felt the force of a thousand volts. It tried to scurry away just after the first attack, but that wasn’t the Sofia it was facing now. She couldn’t forgive at all—she took down everyone without care.

She waved her staff, and fireballs began firing toward the running lizardman, slamming into its body from left and right. It couldn’t even react to what was happening—all it could think of was escaping right now.

"You think I’ll let you leave, you vermin? I’ll make sure you regret delaying me," she said, her voice seething with anger. She grabbed the staff with both hands. Her mana surged even more, creating a ball of lightning above her head.

The ball kept growing in size until it had a one-meter diameter. She closed her eyes and released the attack. It ripped through the skies, crackling as it traveled. The lizardman turned when it felt the attack coming, and when it saw it, fear gripped its heart so tightly that it nearly passed out before the attack hit.

Boom!

The lightning hit the ground, and an explosion followed, bolts of lightning crackling all around, tearing the ground and sending debris flying.

When she was done, the beast still managed to stay alive, so she walked over to it. Her feet hit the ground, and every step sent shivers down its spine.

It tried to drag its broken body along, but nothing worked. She stood over its body, her eyes carried no emotion—just detest and disgust.

"You have wasted my time," she said. She didn’t cast any spell; she drove the bottom of her staff into the head of the lizardman and killed it.

She pulled it out, her chest heaving up and down. Her anger was yet to calm down.

"Sofia?"

She suddenly heard the one voice she didn’t want to hear now—Riven’s voice. She didn’t want him to ever see her in the state she was currently in, so when she heard that voice, fear gripped her mind.

She turned and saw him standing there. He looked at her, and then at the beast at her feet. The destruction around was a testament to the battle that she had faced here.

"You really did a number on it, Sofia," Riven said with a soft smile. She looked at his face and was confused. He wasn’t angry at her, nor was he disgusted by what he saw.

"I always knew you were strong, but this... damn," he continued speaking.

’Why is he complimenting me so much? Can he not see the way I am? Does he not see that? What’s wrong with him?’ she wondered as she stood there looking at Riven.

’Could it be that he doesn’t care if I’m calm and quiet? It can’t be, right? There’s no way he’d like an unstable person. This isn’t making any sense,’ she screamed in her mind.

"Sofia, I guess even you go all-out crazy when fighting. I respect that," he said as he approached.

Her eyes lit up when she heard that. She looked at him with a shine in her eyes.

"What... what if it’s not only when I’m fighting?" she asked softly.

"Hmmm, then I’d respect you more. To be someone that gets riled up and yet is able to control yourself most of the time and keep calm—that’s a level of discipline not everyone can have," Riven said.

Her eyes lit up. She stared at him.

’What’s he saying? It doesn’t make sense. He respects the fact that I’m wearing a facade and I’m not really calm?’ Sofia asked herself.

"Are you not thrown off that it might be a facade I carry?" she asked.

"Uhm, not really. Everyone has a facade that they wear, and I respect the effort put into making yourself look better," Riven said as he swung his hand in the air.

"Since we’ve met like this, then let’s head together and gather some points. After all, you did say you are truly my fiancée now," Riven said with a smile and started walking, while she followed behind.

’He doesn’t care? He accepts me that way? Why does he think that way? Why doesn’t he hate me? I want to know why. I need to know why.

Riven Von Grave, at first you were simply a curiosity for me. But now, I’m going to get serious. I’ll see everything that your mind is about. And for that, I need to make sure you are always with me,’ Sofia thought.

She smiled from ear to ear. Riven turned around to see if she was coming, and she immediately changed her face back to a neutral expression and started following behind him.

’I’ll not let anyone distract me from you,’ she thought.
