Alpha's Lost Luna Returns With His Twins-Chapter 284-Better Be Worth It
Iris:
Things were changing, and almost everyone had begun to notice.
There was another shift. Lady Vivian had become far more cautious around me, as if she were trying to catch me at fault.
I could not speak to Kash because we were no longer talking in front of anyone or alone too. Earlier that day, while he was at the hospital with Lara, his trusted men and his royal beta Walkin told me they wanted to be harsh with Luca to force the truth out of him.
I immediately disagreed. I knew they would use certain methods, actions meant to break him until he confessed. So I refused.
Shortly after, Kash called me. He said we would discuss it at home.
Unfortunately, when he arrived, he saw me with Luca. The way Luca ran off made everything look suspicious.
I left Lady Vivian and Lara in the living room, fully aware they were conspiring against me, and took my children to change and freshen up.
While they were occupied, I slipped back into my room to speak with Kash.
He was staring at me in silence. Then he gestured that he did not want to talk there.
"I am too tired. We will talk after we eat," he said.
Without another word, he went into the bathroom.
Later, I took my children and walked out. When I saw Lara smirking at me, goosebumps rose on my skin.
Before long, we were all seated at the dining table. The table was filled with food, almost as if we were celebrating something.
"Iris," Lady Vivian mentioned my name, and I became fully alert. She and I had never gotten along, and lately, things had only grown worse.
"Yes?" I asked, keeping my tone gentle, refusing to assume she was about to say something unpleasant.
"I would have invited your father as well, but you know, every time we get too close to your family, something bad seems to happen," she remarked.
The weight of her words settled heavily in my chest.
Kash paused mid-bite and looked at me before returning to his plate, helping the children beside him.
"No, that is alright. My father does not enjoy eating around others either," I replied, trying to save face.
Across the table, Lara smirked behind her glass, and I felt disrespected.
"Anyway, what is Luca doing now? Are we just going to wait? When is he going to be punished?" Lady Vivian continued, directing her questions at Kash.
He finally shifted his attention to her.
"He is still denying it," Kash answered.
Lady Vivian’s frown deepened.
"And we are going to sit and wait for him to admit it? Do we not already know? Is there not enough evidence?" she pressed, no longer holding back.
The situation was uncomfortable. Every few seconds, Kash glanced at me without saying a word, which only made it worse.
Still, I kept my posture steady. I was not going to act childish and walk away from lunch. I had a strong feeling that was exactly what his mother wanted.
"Of course we are not going to wait forever. But why would anyone admit to wrongdoing and invite punishment?" Kash responded.
His words made Lady Vivian straighten in her seat.
"I have been hearing things, and I meant to ask you about them. What does it mean that Luca admitted to his crimes in the Lycan community, but not here? What does that mean?" she demanded.
The moment she said that, my fingers tightened around my fork.
What was that supposed to mean? Have we slipped some information out?
"In the east, there are rumors about Lycan communities. People use it as an insult. There is nothing serious about it," Kash explained carefully.
I could feel eyes on us, especially Lara’s and Markus’s. Lady Vivian, however, seemed to withdraw, as if she had decided not to dwell on the tension any longer.
"Since we had never been there, we did not know whether Lycans truly existed there. They were simply referred to as the Lycan community."
Kash tried his best to cover it up while I kept my head down and continued eating. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
"Well, Iris has been there. Why do we not ask her if there were any Lycans?" Lady Vivian suggested.
The moment she said that, I nearly spat out my drink. I began coughing and quickly reached for water, trying to buy time.
After setting the glass down, I straightened my posture.
"As you know, considering my relationship with my mother and brother, I was rarely allowed outside," I said calmly before returning my attention to my food.
"Children, what do you remember?" Lady Vivian asked suddenly.
She was cunning enough to drag my children into it, knowing that children often speak without thinking.
"Mother, please do not involve them in politics," Kash intervened firmly.
Amy and Colin remained silent after that.
"Anyway, why are we not torturing Luca yet?" Lara added something under her breath, and I tightened my grip on the knife in my hand.
They were truly testing my patience. It felt as though this feast was not a celebration of returning home, but a way to make me uncomfortable.
"We will deal with him. Do not worry," Kash said.
Then he gestured for everyone to finish their food.
The dining room fell silent again. This time, only the clatter of dishes filled the space.
When lunch ended, Lara was the first to rise. Her phone had been buzzing repeatedly, and every time she checked the screen, she looked anxious.
I had a feeling something was going on with her.
I could not check her data, even if I wanted to. It was illegal to access someone’s records without proper suspicion, especially when she was the Luna Queen.
Still, I wished I knew what she had been doing lately.
Then again, she used different communication apps. The kind that left no trace behind.
Once she walked away, I stood and headed toward my room. At the end of the hallway, Markus caught my attention.
He then motioned for me to come outside later for a walk.
At this point, the surprise he was planning for Zoe had better be worth it. Otherwise, I was wasting a ridiculous amount of time listening to his crooked lies and his annoying voice.
