Chapter 222: 222-The Time I Met A Monster

Kash:

I had been absent-minded the entire day. All I could think about was facing that monster again. Last time, I tricked her. This time, she would be aware.

Flashback.

"You need to cover your face," I told Lara as we stepped through the cave toward the tunnel leading to the blue river.

"Why? Is everything okay?" Lara questioned, looking slightly confused while holding a weapon in her hand.

I had told her that once we took the water, some kind of monster would come out. I never told her that I was actually in contact with the monster, or that it had spoken to me.

"Just do as I am saying, please," I requested.

She gave a very faint nod and then covered her mouth.

When we reached the opening, I held her hand and pulled her back.

"What is it?" she asked, still looking confused.

"Wear this for me," I told her, handing her earplugs.

"I don’t understand, Kash. What is going on? Why are you making me do all these things?" she questioned, fixing her eyes on me.

I felt bad, to be honest. It was not that I enjoyed using her, but sometimes she got on my nerves, and then it came down to her and Iris, so I had to choose Iris.

"Please just do it. I’m afraid the monster might affect your hearing as well," I explained, pulling out a lie.

She gave me a smile, probably to show she was happy that I was thinking about her. Then, just as I requested, she covered her ears.

"Now step out when I give you a hand gesture," I instructed, watching as only her eyes remained visible.

She nodded and put on the black sunglasses, just as I had advised her.

Once I stepped out, I began to hear the loud noise coming from the water.

And I thought I would never get to see you again.

The voice came, and my body felt different.

"How could I not come? I had to get answers," I replied as I wandered toward the water.

"That is interesting. What answers do you want?" she remarked, finally emerging from the water.

This time, I got to see her. For a second, I was lost in her beauty.

She swam around shyly, blinking her eyes too many times, showing that she was aware of my gaze.

"It seems like you like what you see," she commented, snickering a little.

"Who are you?" I asked, posing my first question to her.

"I’m Eira," she uttered.

She had platinum blonde hair with a hint of blue in it, though it seemed like the color came from the water more than anything else.

As expected, when she dived back into the water, I got to see her fish tail.

She was a mermaid, or maybe a siren.

The blue light slowly turned green across her body.

She had big blue eyes, red puffy lips, and a tiny button nose.

She wore a carefully stitched bra with the same gold pattern as the necklace around her neck.

She moved around, almost dancing, while speaking with me.

"What are you?" I asked, drifting into thoughts of the most beautiful woman I had seen in my life, Iris.

Her memory had always been special to me, sacred even.

I still had not forgotten the day she ran away.

I did not see her for four years, until she returned and took my breath away once again.

"Oh, you’re lost in thought even when you’re with me."

There was a hint of bitterness in her voice when she mentioned that, and I shook myself back to awareness.

"Do you not find me pretty?" she asked, slowly swimming closer to me.

I straightened my posture, preparing to react if she tried to play any games with me.

"You still haven’t told me what you want," I asked again, this time changing my question slightly.

I could already tell she was a siren. I did not need to ask what kind of monster she was anymore.

She approached and then rose out of the water, lifting herself on her fish tail. Her movement started near my feet and slowly carried upward until she reached me.

Her head barely reached my chest.

She lifted her face and looked at me with her big eyes.

"I want you, my mate."

The moment she said that, I stepped back as I noticed a grin spread across her lips.

"Oh, I have been waiting centuries for you, and I knew you would finally come. But something tells me you did not come here with good intentions," she replied, pouting in a way that felt forced.

"What compels you to say that?" I asked, my hand drifting toward my pants as my fingers brushed the dagger, before I pulled my hand back empty again.

"You reek of hostility," she uttered, forming another exaggerated pout.

"And I can tell you came here wanting something. So tell me, what do you want?" she pressed, making me glance around before looking back at her. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

"You’re right. I do want something," I responded calmly.

"Say it," she demanded.

"I want the blue river water, just a little bit."

As soon as my request reached her, she threw her head back and began to laugh, circling faster than before.

"You have plenty of water. What if you give me some?" I added, realizing she might have found my request unreasonable.

"It is not that I will not give you the water. It is just that even when you are the man of my dreams, I must give you the same choice I give everyone who comes asking for it," she explained, drawing my full attention.

"And I will ask you that once again, just as I whispered to you last time."

She was not lying when she said that. She had given me a hint even before that she needed something from me.

So she added, "Give me your mate, and I will give you some of that water."

As she said that, my body stiffened.
