Faint starlight fell upon Li Zijun's face, her hair dampened by droplets, trickling down to her collarbone.

Wet clothes clung to her body, her delicate curves revealed as if she were only partially clothed, her jade arms slightly bent, exposing her graceful form.

Her bare hands gently gathered her wet hair behind her head. The water soaked her tunic and skirt, outlining her perfect figure as she shyly looked at Ji Nanjue.

Her not-fully-removed clothes adhered to her soft body, slightly transparent and revealing her skin tone. Her usually loose tunics hid much, but now at last revealed her true contours.

Ji Nanjue looked at her with evident surprise, then curled her lips into a playful smile and said, "As master and disciple, it's no wonder you lie following the same pattern... Fine, if you wish to call me sister, then do so. 'Mistress' does sound rather old-fashioned."

"..."

Her jade legs hidden underwater gently stirred the surface, creating a few ripples.

Then, with a gentle push of her arms, she stood naked, the waterline just above her thighs, revealing half of her bare waist, slender and flat without an ounce of excess flesh.

"Take off your clothes. You can't very well bathe while dressed, can you?"

This tunic and skirt had accompanied Li Zijun for a long time on their journey, though it bore no stains.

With a hint of shyness, Li Zijun removed her dress and placed it on the shore, then promptly sat down in the pool, concealing herself thoroughly.

Ji Nanjue did not laugh at her and sat beside her.

The air was somewhat oppressive; the time before rain always brought heightened restlessness.

Her small hand gently splashed the water, letting it fall back down, when she suddenly said, "You've only seen him a few times, yet you're certain of your feelings?"

"At your age, it's normal to have someone you admire, but your actions don't seem like those of an impulsive person."

"I'm curious, can you share what's on your mind?"

Pausing, as if realizing her question was a bit tricky, Ji Nanjue added with a smile, "Of course, it's okay if you don't want to say..."

As she spoke, she looked at Li Zijun. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

"On my mind?"

Li Zijun quietly pursed her lips and did not look at Ji Nanjue, but murmured softly.

Gazing into the dim waters, she pondered for a moment before speaking softly, "Does liking someone really require a reason?"

"Isn't it that at some moment, because of something that shakes your innermost being, your heart unwittingly makes room for someone?"

"Perhaps it's just one glance, or a single gesture."

Ji Nanjue was momentarily stunned. Listening to Li Zijun's voice, which sounded somewhat dejected—though her tone was gentle, Ji Nanjue could somehow sense much restlessness within it.

Then she embraced her tightly, her cheek pressing against Li Zijun's. "Love at first sight?"

Ji Nanjue used to scoff at this notion as ludicrous. How could mere glances determine one's feelings unless it was coveting physical beauty?

Yet now, she gradually came to accept the term. Her own life path with Su Bei had inevitably aligned, their feelings deepening after their shared trials through life and death. Perhaps her own heart had been marked by that person long before, a truth she had never acknowledged, hidden deep within her long-sealed heart.

"That's one way to put it."

Li Zijun gave a wry smile, feeling misunderstood. Her feelings for Su Bei were far more profound than the light depiction she just offered; they were the result of nearly a century of refinement before she acknowledged her heart's desire.

"Sister Nan Ji, Zi Jun is feeling cold..." Li Zijun murmured, hugging her arms and blinking as she looked at Ji Nanjue.

"Let's go back," Li Zijun said.

"You go on," Ji Nanjue replied. "I... Sister will stay alone for a while."

Ji Nanjue gave her a gentle smile, her heart filled with complex emotions.

After all, I am a woman. Despite knowing that Su Bei and I will never have a public acknowledgment of our relationship, the idea of another woman wanting to take some of his tenderness still causes a sense of rejection in me. Moreover, this woman is his disciple... which makes it all the more outrageous, both emotionally and ethically.

A peculiar thought crossed Ji Nanjue's mind. His disciple, her master... and myself in between? What a complex relationship... A family spanning three generations, indeed.

It's all Su Dudu's fault.

There's no right or wrong in feelings, but if blame must be assigned, the root cause of all this emotion is that fickle heartthrob. If he hadn't been such a flirt, inciting affections everywhere, how could he have accrued such emotional debt?

Though he seemed quite pleased about it...

Li Zijun waved her hand in front of Ji Nanjue's face. Ji Nanjue came back to her senses, gently pinched Li Zijun's delicate nose, and smiled. "You've been wearing that dress for too long. If you don't mind, wear my dress for now."

"..."

Her hand pointed to the white gauze dress on the shore.

Li Zijun blinked, then smiled sweetly at Ji Nanjue.

Rustling softly, she donned the dress and walked towards the Daoist Temple.

Ji Nanjue watched Li Zijun's retreating back and sighed softly.
