CEO, Your Wife Has Left-Chapter 107: The Person in the Fantasy
After smoothly dropping off Summer Lancaster and Kenneth Yates at Veridian Community, only Melody Donovan and Dominic Thorne were left.
"What do you want to eat?"
Melody’s inner voice was screaming, ’I don’t want to have dinner with you!’ But she didn’t say that. Instead, she just said, "Anything’s fine." Dominic Thorne took her to a high-end Western restaurant. The owner seemed to know him, exchanging a few pleasantries before seating them at a table by the window. They both ordered the same steak and the same drink.
The wait at their table seemed to stretch into an eternity. Melody was on pins and needles, unsure where to even put her hands.
"Are you nervous?" Dominic Thorne asked, elegantly placing his glass on the table and staring into her eyes.
"No, not at all!" Melody picked up her glass to hide her expression, but her eyes kept darting toward him.
"This is my favorite restaurant, and this is my favorite table. You should feel honored to be sitting in my favorite spot." He picked up his glass again, his gaze drifting out the window. From here, you had an unobstructed view of the world outside. The bustling city felt a world away, and only here could one enjoy a moment of peace.
Melody let out a laugh as if she’d just heard a joke. "Honored? I bet more people have received this ’special honor’ than there are cars on the street below!"
Dominic Thorne’s gaze snapped back to her, his expression suddenly serious. "I’ve only ever given this special honor to you." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Melody didn’t know how to respond to that, so she just gave an awkward laugh and let it drop.
Another man and woman walked into the restaurant. Melody glanced over casually and was shocked to see it was her ex-boyfriend. Back then, he had pestered her relentlessly until she agreed to go out with him, but after a while, he had started seeing one of her classmates. Melody broke up with him without a second thought. She never expected to run into him here.
"Well, well, Miss Donovan. What a coincidence!" Wayne Wyatt said, raising an arrogant eyebrow and looking down on Melody.
"Heh, yeah. What a coincidence," Melody replied. She had tried to hide her face, but he had still recognized her.
"Are you still playing the lovesick fool? You’re not getting any younger, you know. You should find someone and get married. It’s not like the object of your affection even knows you exist!" His words were dripping with mockery and sarcasm. In truth, the reason Wayne Wyatt had left her was that she had never really liked him. Her heart and mind were full of someone else, and he had been powerless to change that. ’How can someone love another when their heart has already been stolen?’ That was why he had started pursuing other people.
Melody slammed her hand on the table and shot to her feet. "Wayne Wyatt, what the hell is that supposed to mean? What I do is none of your business! You were the one who cheated first. What gives you the right to act all high and mighty in front of me?"
"Hmph, I cheated? Why don’t you ask yourself if you ever even liked me? You spent all your time in a delusional obsession over some fantasy man. I must have been blind to have ever pursued you!"
Melody lunged forward as if to strike Wayne Wyatt, but Dominic Thorne stood up just in time to stop her.
"Excuse me, sir," Dominic said. "I believe I’m the ’fantasy man’ you were referring to. Does she need your permission to like me?" Dominic’s words snapped Melody back to her senses. If she had known he would get dragged into this, she never would have started a fight with Wayne Wyatt.
Wayne Wyatt took a tentative step back. The man before him had an intense, almost dark aura.
"Do you have any idea who she is?" he suddenly snarled, grabbing the arm of the woman who had come with him. "She’s the heiress of the King Group! I’m telling you, don’t mess with me—"
