After work, start to speedrun the other world-Chapter 380 - 139: Seemingly Incorrect World_2
"This is impossible!" Leviathan waved his hand dismissively. Over the centuries of divine appearances, people had always prayed to the deities. The more devoted they were, the more blessings they received, a truth they had validated through their own experiences.
"What self-indulgent sycophants." Xi Mu’s expression cooled as he spoke to Leviathan, "With all those self-indulgent ceremonies, if you still don’t receive the deities’ favor, I suppose you’d collapse into despair, wouldn’t you?"
He laughed mockingly.
"In fact, you know very well inside that by constantly harming yourself and making self-indulgent sacrifices, you feel the deities should respond—that’s your true inner thought, isn’t it?"
Leviathan’s expression twisted instantly, but he couldn’t immediately retaliate because no one had ever spoken to him like that before.
Xi Mu ignored Leviathan’s distorted expression and continued journeying with the others.
This fellow blocked the road to seeing the deities every day, immediately disciplining and cursing anyone who was not sufficiently devout in their prayers or faltered slightly in their wording.
And this was not because Leviathan loved the deities all that much; it was purely to bestow upon others the full extent of the suffering he endured... no, to impose it doubly on others. If someone suffered less than him, he felt jealous and resentful.
A truly boring character, essentially a tool designed to deepen the players’ understanding of the God of Omniscience.
Logically, there was no need to bother with him, but his words were not meant for Leviathan; they were intended for Eden, who stood by his side.
"So many lazybones by the roadside." While traveling, Suna observed the road’s edges and whispered, most noting not the supplicants but the numerous layabouts who lay motionless by the roadside, merely watching those going to see the deities, too lazy to move as if they had lost the will to live.
"They can’t be too lazy to eat, can they?"
"God can eliminate hunger." Eden responded calmly, finding the notion of eliminating hunger quite simple for herself and even simpler for the God of Omniscience—it was nothing more than granting the people the blessing of surviving on sunlight.
"Then don’t they get bored?" Suna asked, then saw Eden gently shake her head, her gaze turning toward a man by the road who, in a dream, clutched a stone bench and thrusted his lower body.
Suna instantly understood why people wouldn’t get bored. If in real life they needn’t worry about hunger and in dreams could satisfy their needs, then indeed, remaining lazy was more enjoyable.
Yet, she vaguely felt something was amiss.
This world... no, this hidden layer of Hell seemed trapped in a state of death, focused only on making requests to the deity in the Tree of Omniscience and immersed in their own worlds.
"Discussing this is pointless." Xi Mu shook his head and quickened his pace toward the Tree of Omniscience. He just needed a glance at the state of things here to trigger a private conversation with Eden at midnight, having now met the conditions.
Neither was he interested in staying here any longer.
Everything that happened in this secret layer of Hell was a repetition of the past. If explored carefully, much secret information about the God of Omniscience could be discovered, along with many interesting NPC characters, such as Lucifer, who most admired yet strongly opposed the God of Omniscience.
There was Beelzebub, who kept eating and eventually even wanted to gnaw at the Tree of Omniscience, and Mammon, who desired all of the deity’s favor.
If it were his first or second round, he would have been very interested in exploring this secret layer of Hell, triggering many dialogue scenes with Eden to quickly increase her favorability to a certain level.
However, players who spent too long exploring the secret layer of Hell typically couldn’t bring themselves to follow the King of Ash’s path but instead sought ways to defeat the God of Omniscience without burning the tree.
After some time,
the group successfully reached the base of the Tree of Omniscience, where they saw a corridor built right beside the tree leading to an open heavy stone door.
Beneath the tree, the faithful took three steps and one kneel, sprinting toward the Tree of Omniscience.
In this era, the devotees of the God didn’t have to worry about hunger, lifespan, or disease. After the descent of the all-knowing and all-powerful God, they received unimaginable grace.
Everyone could travel to the Tree of Omniscience and have the chance to see the God, with each person equally receiving the God’s favors.
"An unfamiliar outsider." A lively voice tinged with curiosity came from behind the door. There stood a girl in a white long dress, wearing several golden bracelets, her expression very animated.
And she looked exactly like Eden.
Xi Mu subconsciously turned his head and looked towards Eden beside him, noticing that she had pulled her grey cloak lower to conceal her features.
"May I ask who you are?"
"According to what they say, I’m a messenger of God," the girl said with a light smile as she approached Xi Mu, sniffing him lightly, "You carry a scent that belongs to me."
She asked curiously.
"You’re from the future, aren’t you?"
"..." Xi Mu fell silent for a moment, exchanging glances with the illusion of Eden beside him. This was not Eden herself, but rather the collective memory of the people from that age, which had led to the appearance of this illusion.
"I didn’t expect you to be so lively."
"Is my future self not lively?" the girl asked puzzledly. After a moment, Xi Mu replied,
"She hardly ever smiles, always so quiet as if she’s harboring some unhappy thoughts deep inside her heart."
The girl blinked, her voice deliberately elongated, "You seem to know quite a lot about my future self."
"Well, we are lovers after all," Xi Mu responded nonchalantly, surprising the girl who widened her beautiful eyes and glanced quickly at Eden wearing the cloak. She seemed to know who Eden was but chose not to explicitly reveal it.
"After so many years, that’s not odd, is it?" Xi Mu joked, ignoring the reproachful look Eden was giving him from the side.
To tease Eden like this was a rare opportunity, one too good to waste. Given that Eden always maintained her composure, it was almost tempting to wish for a glimpse of her emotional turbulence.
"Is that so?" The girl smiled, stepping aside slightly, "Just so you know, I’m not the person you know. She has always been alive, and even the secret layers of Hell can’t record memories about her."
She lifted her hand to lightly gather her hair by her ear.
"Whether the person you know is as lively and cute as I am, you’ll have to ask her yourself."
"Hmm," Xi Mu nodded and walked past the girl, heading toward the Tree of Omniscience.
The girl stood in place, watching the crowd she had just passed, and then sighed softly, a trace of loneliness on her delicate face.
She was actually quite curious about what the real embodiment of the Tree of Omniscience was like, but since the person didn’t want to meet her,
she couldn’t force it.
...
...
In this era, the Tree of Omniscience was not as pervasive as in later times, although it was already magnificent beyond imagination, still it stood in the world.
This meant that civilization had to coexist with the Tree of Omniscience, building houses and walkways on it, along with various elevating lifts, clinging to the trunk of the Tree of Omniscience like parasites.
The closer one got to the tree crown, the more the number of devotees surged, with many families carrying children going to see the deity, blocking the road completely. The dense crowd looked like a river made up of countless heads, giving one a suffocating feeling.
Fortunately, Xi Mu never intended to honestly line up, joining the crowd as he flew directly into the temple.
"The god is not here," Suna said as she stood in the temple, which seemed forged of gold, looking at the empty Divine Throne. Only the devotees knelt before the throne, expressing their heartfelt wishes and devotion on their own.
The scene felt very eerie.
"They are just praying to the god in their hearts, it doesn’t matter whether the god is present or not," Xi Mu said jokingly to Eden beside him as he reached the center of the Golden Temple, "What would happen if I sat down?"
