After Rebirth, She Becomes the Revenge Queen-Chapter 474 - 330: Why Doesn’t Zhan Er Look at Me? (Seeking Monthly Pass)_2
As long as these two don’t let go of each other’s hands, how can they separate? It’s fundamentally impossible to part ways! Where in the world do you find people who are separated but still entwined together all day?
If it could really happen, why did they get married in the first place?
Mrs. Pei was the first to speak: "A parent’s intervention is worth two! Indeed, it had to be you to handle this!"
Liang Chen and his group were also invigorated: "With the way those two are, they may not mind their personal lives, but they can’t ignore matters of the court!"
Pei Yu hurried them: "So what are we waiting for? Let’s quickly assign them tasks! These two rivals are truly idle!"
Mrs. Ning then stood up: "Where are they? Let’s go over right now!"
...
While the discussion in the hall was fervent, inside the room, Fu Zhen and the others had run out of things to say. Pei Zhan lay down on the bed, and Fu Zhen began wandering around the room.
The entire courtyard was where Pei Zhan had lived since he was a child. Before their marriage, the main room where Fu Zhen now resides was his living space. After marriage, he had this side room tidied up for daily use, and regardless of whether he spent the night in the main room, this space was never left idle.
However, it was Fu Zhen’s first time stepping into this room. The room’s furnishings were naturally meticulous, complete with a bed and couch. Weapons and armor hung on the walls alongside two scroll paintings, with a screen embroidered with tigers roaring in a pine forest on one side. Against the wall stood two large bookshelves.
Fu Zhen walked to the shelves and examined them carefully, almost entirely filled with military books and some scrolls whose edges were worn from much use. She pulled out a few volumes and glanced through them, finding them to be classic strategies in warfare from history. Many sections had annotations, written neatly enough to recognize Pei Zhan’s handwriting.
As she inserted one of the scrolls back, a folded parchment map fell out.
As she unfolded it, she realized it was a map of Dayue’s borders. Several winding routes were marked on it, detailing the process of how Dayue was conquered in the past.
After studying the map for a while, she turned to look at Pei Zhan on the bed and saw him lying there, already asleep!
Fu Zhen walked over, sat at the edge of the bed, and studied him at this moment.
One hand was under his head, the other rested on his chest and abdomen. Because he was propping up his head with one hand, his face turned slightly to one side, his eyes gently closed, framed by long eyelashes that drew two curved lines. The bridge of his nose cast a shadow across his face.
His tall physique, honed in the northwest, stretched out on the intricately carved pearwood bed, appearing all the more towering and stately.
Such a man, if still compared to that awkward little boy from years ago, would truly be inappropriate.
Fu Zhen once more glanced around the unfamiliar room, feeling somewhat guilty for having neglected him in the past few months.
If the agreement alone was considered, Pei Zhan had gone to great lengths on the matter of helping her with revenge, yet she herself had not genuinely thought about how to respond to him.
When she repeatedly said that revenge was not everything to him, the neglect of Pei Zhan these days ironically proved her wrong.
If her heart wasn’t entirely consumed by revenge, she should have treated Pei Zhan differently, more than just a nephew. Even if she continued to see him as such, she had never treated Liang Zhi and Cheng Chili with such indifference.
It would be reasonable for Pei Zhan to feel resentment.
Fu Zhen gazed deeply at the map in her hand again, then shifted her gaze back to his face.
At the end of July, the weather wasn’t too chilly yet. With all the doors and windows locked tight during the day, the room was nearly airtight, causing a fine sheen of sweat to appear on his forehead and the tip of his nose.
Fu Zhen pulled out a handkerchief and gently wiped him, but before she could put it away, Pei Zhan opened his eyes.
Fu Zhen’s hand halted in mid-air, secretly feeling a little caught in the act, but outwardly she remained calm. She tucked the handkerchief away and said, "Looks like you didn’t sleep well last night?"
Pei Zhan appeared not to hear, his gaze fixed firmly on her.
Fu Zhen gave a slight smile and said, "Continue sleeping, I’ll be over there reading. Before sunset, surely they’ll let us out."
She indeed picked up the map and moved toward the desk behind the screen.
Pei Zhan turned his face back, staring at the ceiling.
After a moment, he turned his head again to look at her, already seated on a chair.
Then his gaze fell downward, focusing on a letter at the foot of the chair, visible in his peripheral vision.
He sat up, bending down to pick the letter up. After glancing at the envelope, he asked, "Li Yi from Taishan Hall?"
Upon hearing this, Fu Zhen looked up, briefly exclaimed "Oh," and walked back over: "Mr. Li left the capital city a few months back to manage his shop and is returning soon. But for some reason, he sent a letter in advance, saying he’d come to see me as soon as he arrives."
