After Rebirth, I Married the Great Demon King-Chapter 474: Satisfied
Now seeing it with her own eyes, she felt that this child was quite presentable and well-behaved.
Wearing a black coat, with fair and clean features, he was an extraordinarily handsome young man. Sitting next to her family’s Shi Fei, they truly looked like a perfect pair.
Old Mrs. Xu was still rather satisfied with Cheng Lie.
However, a deeper conversation was still necessary.
"Since you’re Shi Fei’s boyfriend, I won’t be too formal. Just like her, I’ll call you Xiao Lie then."
When Cheng Lie heard this name, he thought to himself that there was no escaping it now.
He used to feel this nickname was overly cute and didn’t quite match him.
Yet, after hearing Yun Shifei call him that over and over, he surprisingly got used to it.
At that moment, hearing Old Mrs. Xu’s words, Cheng Lie’s lips curved slightly: "Alright."
Old Mrs. Xu thought to herself, this young man really was quite polite and obedient.
"I heard you used to be neighbors with Shi Fei back in South City?"
Cheng Lie replied with a soft "Mm."
Old Mrs. Xu probed slightly into Cheng Lie’s situation. Cheng Lie didn’t hide anything from her. There were some matters he genuinely hoped to be honest about, hoping for acceptance from Yun Shifei’s family.
Hearing Old Mrs. Xu ask about his past, Yun Shifei glanced at Cheng Lie worriedly. She was very aware of how much those past events had hurt him.
Bringing up the past was akin to exposing his scars for everyone to see, and Yun Shifei worried it might affect his emotions.
Cheng Lie noticed Yun Shifei’s gaze and turned to her, giving her a reassuring look, signaling that he was alright.
Only then did Yun Shifei feel at ease.
Later, hearing Cheng Lie’s calm tone as he recounted his past to Old Mrs. Xu, Yun Shifei realized he truly had let go.
There’s a clear sign of whether someone has moved on from their past: whether they can talk about it lightly and casually.
Just like Cheng Lie at this moment—he had reconciled with the past version of himself. Thus, he no longer wrapped himself in layers like before, unwilling to speak of many things.
Yun Shifei was so overwhelmed with joy her heart trembled uncontrollably. He was better now! Truly better!
Listening to Cheng Lie recount his past experiences, Old Mrs. Xu was both surprised and a little pained.
For Cheng Lie to still turn out the way he had, what she felt most was admiration.
Admiration for Cheng Lie, who had been through so much yet emerged as he was now—resilient, unyielding, and even accomplishing significant achievements.
Indeed, people are all different.
Take Xu Yi’s partner, for example. She had heard about him: his family was poor, his parents neglected him, so he started mixing in society very early, eventually becoming a troublemaker.
Cheng Lie’s family environment was not much better, yet the formation of his character was worlds apart.
Seeing Old Mrs. Xu’s kindly yet slightly pained expression, Yun Shifei knew this hurdle had been cleared.
At noon, all their relatives gathered together for a meal.
Yun Tiancheng and Xu Ya were in the city. Since work was hectic at the end of the year, they couldn’t come over, but said they’d visit Old Mrs. Xu and Old Sir Xu during the New Year.
Yun Shifei decided to stay here with Cheng Lie for another two days before heading back to the city.
Nantian Town felt much freer. Otherwise, once back, she’d have to deal with seeing Mu Chengzhu and Yun Sisi constantly, which would surely spoil her good mood.
For quite some time, Mu Chengzhu hadn’t come looking for trouble with her. Yun Shifei had heard that his company was mired in one problem after another, leaving him plenty to deal with.
Cheng Lie stayed at Old Mrs. Xu’s house, but naturally, she wouldn’t let Cheng Lie and Yun Shifei stay in the same room. The two were placed in separate rooms with one in between them, seemingly to prevent any inappropriate actions.
Yun Shifei helped Cheng Lie tidy up his room for a while, then sat on his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck and burying her face against his chest.
"My grandparents are really satisfied with you."
Earlier, Old Mrs. Xu had even pulled her aside to say in confidence that Cheng Lie was a reliable person.
At the time, she had felt genuinely elated—for Cheng Lie and for the fact that he had gained the approval of everyone in her family.
Holding Yun Shifei in his arms, Cheng Lie found this girl to be awfully petite, nestled in his embrace like a small rabbit, soft and fragrant.
She was quite comfortable.
Cheng Lie placed his hand on her back. Yun Shifei was wearing a cashmere sweater, and it felt smooth to the touch.
He couldn’t help but pat her gently, over and over.
Yun Shifei felt Cheng Lie’s hand softly trailing over her back, like he was soothing a child, yet it also made her think about their future together.
She couldn’t help but ask, "When are we getting married?"
In her eyes, there seemed to be starlight flickering.
It felt as if they were both moving toward a bright and promising future.
Cheng Lie couldn’t help but be swept away in his own daydreams. Such a beautiful life—a few years ago, he wouldn’t have dared even dream of it.
But now, it was all becoming real.
Their dreams were slowly becoming reality.
"When do you want to?" Cheng Lie leaned closer to her ear and asked softly.
Warm breath burst around her ear, and Yun Shifei felt her entire body go weak.
She buried herself in Cheng Lie’s embrace, curling further into his arms. "How could you leave something like that for a girl to say?"
Hearing her somewhat bashful tone, her whole body curling into his arms.
Did she even realize that no man could resist the allure of a woman behaving like this?
Even if her actions were entirely unconscious.
But it was precisely these unintentional gestures that made such teasing utterly fatal.
Cheng Lie pressed his lips together; if she kept snuggling him like this, he really wasn’t sure what would happen next.
So, he abruptly scooped her up and placed her on the bed, leaning over her: "Then let’s go get the marriage license now, shall we?"
He lowered his voice, careful not to let the sound carry through the door to where Old Mrs. Xu and the others were.
He had worked hard to leave a good impression as a gentleman in front of them; the last thing he wanted was to ruin it now.
When Yun Shifei was suddenly lifted onto the bed by Cheng Lie, she was stunned. She blinked at him, staring at the man above her.
There was a sense of pressure in the air, making her heart race uncontrollably, unsure of what he might do next.
Seeing her innocent and bewildered eyes so pure and unspoiled, Cheng Lie felt an even stronger urge to tease her.
Without hesitation, he bent down and kissed Yun Shifei’s lips.
Honestly, they hadn’t seen each other for some time. Today, as soon as he saw her, Cheng Lie had already felt the desire to kiss her. Now that it was just the two of them in the room, he couldn’t hold back anymore.
Yun Shifei closed her eyes, sensing Cheng Lie’s passionate and uninhibited kiss. This man, who seemed so cool and detached, was surprisingly getting better and better at this. He was like a wolf, as if he wanted to swallow her whole.
And she could do nothing but accept it.
Cheng Lie kissed Yun Shifei until she was utterly dazed. If not for the knocking on the door, the intimate atmosphere in the room would have continued uninterrupted.
