After Rebirth, I Accept The Arranged Marriage-Chapter 63: So Extravagant
"A cash giveaway!"
Why was she holding a giveaway? Because she was happy, of course!
How powerful is the allure of money?
After Jessie Sterling posted that reply, a long thread of comments appeared in under half a minute.
"??? Huh? Giving away money?"
"Whoa, now I’ve seen everything. I spend thousands, even tens of thousands, on this platform every year, and this is the first time an artist has ever given *me* money!"
"Is this for real? Sweetie, you should just focus on updating. Don’t spend your own money on us!!! It hurts my heart just thinking about it!"
Jessie Sterling didn’t look at the comments anymore. She was in a good mood not just because she had gained the affection of so many fans on the webtoon site, but also because of Victor Morgan.
Jessie’s previously quiet social media account had grown from just over a hundred followers to more than two thousand.
She had promised her fans a cash giveaway, so she immediately set up a 66,000 RMB lottery on her main page. Winning was all down to luck.
After setting up the giveaway, Jessie went to the small group chat she shared with Quincy and Lynn Jennings to show off the little chibi figurine from the latest souvenir gift box she had received.
She had just sent the message when Lynn Jennings posted a screenshot of the giveaway from social media and tagged her in the group.
[Lynn Jennings: @Jessie Sterling, did your account get hacked?]
[Jessie Sterling: ...No, it’s me! Can’t I give my adorable readers a little cash prize?]
[Lynn Jennings: ...]
Just then, Quincy Sterling pieced it together. Looking at the two different photos they had posted, she quickly figured out Jessie’s little secret.
[Quincy Sterling: Is that the solid gold chibi mascot from your souvenir? So you got the mascot your brother-in-law sent you, got happy, and decided to host a cash giveaway on social media? Yep, that sounds just like our Money Shredder.]
And what was a Money Shredder’s style of celebration?
Spending money, of course!
Jessie wanted to defend herself. It wasn’t because of Victor Morgan! She was also celebrating her success on the webtoon site, okay?
Unfortunately, after she said that, neither of the other two in the group believed her.
The young miss simply exited the chat, huffing indignantly, and opened her social media app to amuse herself.
She hadn’t expected that as soon as she opened it, she would discover that her little giveaway had caused a "crazy" reaction.
Her direct messages were almost all marked "99+".
Jessie’s mind went blank for a second. ’I didn’t give away *that* much money, did I? Why are there suddenly so many messages?’
She clicked to see, and the corner of her mouth twitched.
She had been wondering how a 66,000 RMB prize could have such a "strong" effect.
[A Fish Swam Into Your Pond: My congratulations! 「Giveaway 88,888」 Reposting @Little Squid: 「Giveaway 66,666」]
[Excellent Savings Machine: Our Money Shredder is all grown up! Congrats, congrats, congrats! Everyone, please take good care of our little princess. 「Giveaway 99,999」 Reposting @Little Squid: 「Giveaway 66,666」]
Clearly, the lavish reposts from Quincy Sterling and Lynn Jennings brought an explosive level of traffic to Jessie Sterling’s social media.
Suddenly, Jessie’s comment section became exceptionally lively.
It was already surprising enough for a fledgling new artist from a webtoon site to announce a giveaway and have the prize be a whopping 66,000. But then for two even more extravagant friends to repost and add to it, bringing the total prize pool to nearly 300,000—that, of course, attracted even more attention.
Even celebrities rarely gave away as much as Jessie had tonight during their New Year’s promotions.
"Holy shit! I thought it would be like, a hundred 10-RMB prizes that we’d all have to fight for..."
"Oh my god, I’ve made it! I actually got over a hundred RMB for free from the artist I’m following! It’s a windfall! The author just covered my comics budget for the entire month..."
"Are the two big shots who reposted friends of the author? That ’Savings Machine’ one called her ’our Money Shredder’ and ’little princess.’ Sounds so doting! Could it be her boyfriend? Nooo! I can’t accept that!"
"I asked in the comments before if *New Marriage Diary* was based on her own personal experience, but the author didn’t respond. Now, it seems very likely!"
"Just got back from checking out their profiles. That ’Fish in a Pond’ person... holy shit, she’s a total ’rich and beautiful’ type. I feel like I just swam out of an ocean of money and almost got lost in it."
"I don’t care! I took Little Squid’s money, so now I belong to her! I’m a die-hard fan for life!"
Jessie let out a series of strange "hehehe" giggles from her chair. She felt that signing with the webtoon platform had been the most important decision she’d ever made.
The next morning, Jessie woke up bright and early for a change.
She had an appointment to get a hair treatment with Lynn Jennings today.
Jessie drove a white Lamborghini out of the underground garage and met Lynn Jennings at the salon entrance.
Lynn had been much busier than before since she started working at the research institute.
As soon as they met, Lynn couldn’t help but tease her. "Does President Morgan have his ears pierced? He doesn’t seem the type."
It took Jessie a couple of seconds to realize Lynn was teasing her about the new Chapters she had uploaded the previous night.
Her ears turned red. "I never said that was him!"
Lynn said, "So, there’s someone else who’s the male lead of your *New Marriage Diary*? Does President Morgan know about this?"
Jessie’s face flushed completely. "Hey! When did I ever say it was me and Victor Morgan?! It’s artistic creation! I’m warning you, don’t go applying it to real people!"
"Oh..." Lynn drawled. "In that case, shouldn’t you add a line or two to the beginning of the Chapter you updated yesterday?"
"Huh?"
Lynn raised an eyebrow. "Maybe you should add, ’This story is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to actual persons is purely coincidental’?" Before Jessie could react, she continued, "Otherwise, I’m afraid your readers, especially the ones in Southaven, are going to figure out who you are."
After all, who told Victor Morgan to set off such attention-grabbing fireworks that night?
Even several of her own friends had been asking if she knew who was behind it.
Jessie was speechless.
"Also, does your President Morgan know he’s the male lead in your serialized *New Marriage Diary*?" Lynn asked with a grin.
Jessie was speechless.
She felt she shouldn’t have asked Lynn Jennings to go get their hair done today!
After going upstairs, Jessie was trying to decide which aromatherapy head treatment to get. Just as she was looking up to ask Lynn if she wanted to try a fruity scent, she heard the CLACK-CLACK of high heels approaching from behind.
"Well, if it isn’t Eldest Miss Jennings."
At the same time, a malicious-sounding laugh reached Jessie’s ears.
Jessie turned around to see a young woman in an ostentatious, sequined dress walking toward them.
Coincidentally—or perhaps not—walking beside her was Cheryl Stuart, whom Jessie had met on two prior occasions.
Jessie had already recognized the speaker as Brianna Hudson.
They were all from the same social circle, though Brianna Hudson wasn’t part of their particular clique. Moreover, they’d had a rather unpleasant falling out over a horse in the past.
’But how does Cheryl Stuart know Brianna Hudson?’
