Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Handled

[Jessie Sterling: I saw. Did you have someone take everything down online?]

[Jessie Sterling: You’re still awake?]

Though it was afternoon in New York, it was the dead of night back in China.

Victor Morgan was still sitting in his study, a pair of blue-light-blocking, half-frame glasses perched on his nose. When he heard his phone chime, Victor took off the glasses with one hand and picked it up.

Seeing Jessie Sterling’s reply, Victor Morgan typed out a quick "Mm" before adding, "Don’t pay any mind to what they’re saying online."

This was cyberbullying from the start, and it was all because of two ridiculous celebrities, dragging an innocent bystander like Jessie Sterling into it.

Victor Morgan didn’t know if Jessie had been angry enough to cry, but she was definitely unhappy.

After a moment’s thought, Victor tapped open his chat with Keegan Sanders.

[Victor Morgan: Before sunrise, I want to see the legal department holding the online ringleaders accountable.]

The moment he’d discovered people were dragging Jessie Sterling into the argument online, he’d had someone start scrubbing the posts. He just hadn’t expected so many rabid fans to spew such vitriol in such a short time.

When it came to fans who were accustomed to cyberbullying others, Victor Morgan showed no mercy. He simply ordered the legal department to gather evidence and sue.

Keegan Sanders sported two dark circles under his eyes. ’Who is this poor soul stuck working overtime in the middle of the night?!’

But his boss’s next message instantly made his resentment toward working overtime vanish.

[Victor Morgan: Don’t come into the office tomorrow morning. Get some rest and come in in the afternoon.]

Jessie Sterling had no idea that Victor Morgan had already set his lawyers to work suing the most vocal participants of the cyberbullying incident, one by one. A smile lit up her eyes. "I was a little angry at first, but not anymore! It’s not like they can bad-mouth me now anyway!"

When Victor Morgan saw her reply, he let out a soft chuckle.

Lynn Jennings watched her friend grinning foolishly at her phone. Shaking her head, speechless, she reached out and poked Jessie Sterling on the forehead.

"The way you’re grinning like an idiot, I’d almost think you’ve fallen for him," Lynn Jennings said bluntly.

"No way!" Jessie Sterling’s expression changed in a flash, though her face was starting to blush. "We’ve barely even met! Besides, am I that shallow?"

Lynn Jennings leaned back on the sofa. "What’s so bad about being shallow? I love young, handsome guys."

Jessie Sterling: "..."

The young heiress, being terrible at arguing, rarely won this kind of debate.

A couple of seconds later, Lynn Jennings watched the young heiress get up, her slippers pitter-pattering as she headed for the bathroom.

Before she left, the young heiress’s indignant "hmpf" still lingered in the air.

Lynn Jennings couldn’t help but laugh.

It was only after Jessie went to wash up that Lynn Jennings reopened her email on her computer.

The young heiress could be quite naive at times, but she could also be incredibly sharp.

She really couldn’t afford to just throw in the towel. Fooling around for a couple of years would be no burden to her; she could probably even spend the rest of her life like that if she wanted.

But getting the share of the family fortune she deserved would be another matter entirely.

’So what if she had to flip the table? Anyone could do that.’

Lynn Jennings carefully reviewed the email from the research institute in front of her. She licked her lips, hit "Confirm," and then clicked Send.

Jessie Sterling felt that after Victor Morgan had completely wiped the trending topics, there was nothing left for her to worry about. She happily took a picture of the new teacup she had bought yesterday and posted a casual shot on Xiaohongshu and Instagram.

Jessie Sterling’s social media accounts didn’t have many followers, unlike Lynn Jennings, who had a huge following from often posting photos of her overseas travels, jewelry, and handbags.

After taking the photo, Jessie remembered she still hadn’t bought Victor Morgan a gift. Then she recalled there was a ceramics auction that day. After finding the auction catalog, Jessie discovered that most of the items at this antique ceramics auction were medieval European porcelain teacups.

She planned to go check it out in the evening.

By the time Jessie and Lynn Jennings went to the auction house that evening, it was morning in China.

After attending the fashion show, Wendy Lawson didn’t rest much and headed straight back to China.

This year was the anniversary of the influencer agency she was signed with. As the face of the company and its number one star, her attendance was mandatory.

Wendy Lawson had just gotten off the plane. After she turned off airplane mode, her phone was flooded with messages.

Wendy Lawson paid them little mind. She received tons of messages every day, the vast majority of which were meaningless and unimportant. She wasn’t in a hurry to reply. It could wait until she was in the company van.

But Wendy hadn’t taken two steps before she noticed her assistant had fallen behind.

"What is it?" Wendy turned back, frowning at her assistant. "Come on," she urged.

But her assistant, still several paces behind her and holding a phone, didn’t respond.

After a moment, the assistant finally looked up, her face ashen. "Wendy... we’re screwed." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

It was a colleague from the company. The assistant’s phone wasn’t flooded with messages like Wendy Lawson’s, so the moment she opened WeChat, the urgent news was the first thing she saw.

Wendy Lawson raised an eyebrow. "What is it now?"

Just as the assistant was about to say something, Wendy’s phone suddenly rang.

Wendy saw the caller ID and immediately answered.

"Hello? Boss?"

The nearby assistant’s ears perked up. The only person the agency’s top star, Wendy Lawson, called "Boss" was their actual boss.

Thinking about the messages she’d just seen, the assistant’s heart began to thump wildly in her chest.

As the call progressed, Wendy Lawson’s expression grew darker and darker.

"...I understand. I’m sorry, Boss, I honestly didn’t realize. Okay, I’ll check now... I get it. I’ll post it right away." If she had been standing in front of her boss, she would’ve been bowing profusely.

Wendy Lawson’s mind was now a complete blank. Her boss had just told her that her Xiaohongshu account had been banned and that her most recent videos and photos from the fashion show had been wiped clean.

Her boss had also made it perfectly clear: if she had any photos from the fashion show still on her phone, she needed to delete them immediately, or else prepare to face a lawsuit.

Posting pictures of public figures was one thing, but who could have known she’d also captured a civilian she absolutely could not afford to mess with!

Wendy Lawson was no longer in a hurry to go get her luggage. She sat right down on a bench outside the restroom.

"You probably know what’s going on by now, right? Find the photos from outside the fashion show that day," Wendy ordered her assistant. "Then draft an apology for me. The company is already trying to get my account unbanned. Thankfully, it’s just the one platform for now. I’ll post an apology statement on my other accounts first."
