After my divorce, I started to have good luck-Chapter 836 - 450: Breaking All the Rules
In July, even without the scorching sunlight, waves of heat still roamed the streets, with only the occasional cool breeze bringing a hint of relief to pedestrians.
Chen Feng, although dressed relatively lightly, still wished he could get into the car as soon as possible to enjoy the air conditioning.
Just as he was about to open the car door, Tian Xiaoman appeared.
"Did you call me? What's up?"
Chen Feng glanced at the woman in front of him with confusion, unsure why she was calling him.
"I see you have a car. Can you give me a lift? I live near the South Gate, not far from here."
Chen Feng stared at the woman in surprise. They weren't that familiar, merely acquaintances who had just added each other on WeChat without much conversation. He thought to himself, where do you get the nerve to ask me for a ride?
"Sorry, it's not really on my way." Chen Feng shook his head and declined directly. He wasn't lying; to head home, taking the route via the South Gate would require a slight detour. Though not far, it would still take some time. It was normal for Chen Feng not to oblige since there were no ties between them.
This was just part of his somewhat straightforward nature.
Tian Xiaoman was taken aback by Chen Feng's refusal and felt a bit upset. She thought, I'm at least a beauty, are you blind?
Chen Feng's unexpected response threw her supposedly foolproof plan into disarray.
However, she wasn't an ordinary woman; she was quite adaptable. She took two steps forward, closing the distance between them to about a meter. Her beautiful eyes fixated on Chen Feng, she said with poise, "You really lack gentlemanly manners. We at least know each other, right? I just asked for a short ride, it's not much trouble. Are you not willing to help with this little thing?"
Her presumptuous attitude made Chen Feng uncomfortable. Not holding back, he said directly, "I don't think we're that familiar, right? I have no obligation to give you a ride. If you want to take a car, just call a taxi. I have things to do."
After speaking, Chen Feng opened the car door, got in, and slammed it shut with a bang.
Seeing the incredulous look on Tian Xiaoman's face, Chen Feng started the car quickly and drove off, showing no intention of chatting further, let alone giving her a ride.
As Chen Feng's car drove away, she still couldn't believe that he completely ignored her—this stunning beauty—and showed not a bit of gentlemanly conduct by refusing her a lift.
Minutes passed and as three minutes ticked by, Chen Feng's conspicuous Cayenne showed no signs of returning, forcing her to face the reality.
"Damn you, Chen Weidong!"
Tian Xiaoman stomped her foot in frustration and gritted her teeth.
Since junior high, no man had treated her with such indifference.
From junior high, she had gathered a large group of male friends through her looks. Whenever she asked for a favor, almost no boy or man would refuse her, and especially so after she employed similar tactics. No man would pass up a chance to get closer or even intimate with her.
Yet today, she met her match.
In fact, she drove here herself today. Her red Mazda was parked just across the street.
She simply came to the bookstore to look for some educational reference books she needed, and just happened to spot Chen Feng getting out of his new Cayenne.
Normally, spotting a luxury car like a Cayenne wouldn't be a big deal, but she noticed Chen Feng was alone, and admittedly, he was quite handsome, fairly young, and she observed closely before—he wasn't wearing a wedding ring. The car license plate was also from Xiu Zhou.
This instantly piqued her interest; she dreamed of living in Xiu Zhou and having a home there would be even better.
Chen Feng, clearly someone who probably lived in Xiu Zhou, could afford a luxury car worth over a million, and potentially a single man, handsome and not much older than her.
Without a doubt, he was her ideal match!
And it was such a coincidence to meet him on the street—wasn't this fate given by heaven?
So, she boldly made her move.
She followed Chen Feng closely, quickly devised a plan involving dropping money and picking it up as a way to start a conversation, making it seem natural and flawless.
In a typical situation, such a stunning beauty, coupled with an act of honesty like waiting for the owner of the dropped money, would make any man willingly stay with her, leading to natural introductions, exchanging WeChat contacts, and thus knowing each other.
But Chen Feng was uncooperative; he didn't play by her script, refusing to wait with her for the money owner, let alone getting acquainted. He just walked away.
Luckily, she soon found him again and managed to reconnect, successfully adding him on WeChat. At that moment, she seemed to leave nonchalantly, but in reality, stayed at a shop not far from where Chen Feng parked his car.
Thus, after waiting for over half an hour, she finally caught him coming back, leading to the scene just now.
Unfortunately, Chen Feng still ignored her charm, rejecting her request for a ride.
This somewhat dented Tian Xiaoman's confidence and self-esteem, but she quickly recovered, stubbornly refusing to admit her allure had diminished, instead suspecting Chen Feng might be gay and not interested in women.
Frustrated, Tian Xiaoman could only go to the opposite side, get into her Mazda, and leave.
...
Chen Feng originally planned to drive straight home, but after just a few minutes on the road without leaving the town, he received a call from Guo Mengyao.
"Where are you now?" Guo Mengyao asked bluntly, her tone slightly harsh.
"In town, just bought some deli from the market on Academic Street, planning to take it home," Chen Feng replied honestly.
"Alright, come over to my place."
"What's going on?"
"My mom wants to see you."
Upon hearing that, Chen Feng immediately refused: "It's not a good time. I've already arranged to meet junior high classmates back home, waiting for me to take the deli for drinks. Let's do it another time."
"What's the deal with junior high classmates? Just have them wait. It's only a little past three in the afternoon; what are you doing drinking already? You come over here first. My mom has something to discuss with you. If you don't come, don't contact me again."
Chen Feng was speechless. Guo Mengyao's somewhat forceful tone irritated him.
They both had been divorced, and their relationship was more about mutual comfort and business collaboration, yet it was now turning into some sort of tangled love affair, which wasn't what he wanted.
He no longer found this version of Guo Mengyao appealing; if she had been like this back then, he would never have gone to bed with her.
"Alright, just tell me what your mom wants. It's not about pushing for marriage, is it? Didn't I discuss it with your dad and mom last time? I've also told you."
