After My Death, the Love-struck CEO Begs for Reconciliation-Chapter 23 - 24
After waiting for a long time, Julian Lancaster didn’t receive any response from me, but he kept holding me, and I didn’t avoid him. Just when he thought there was still room for reconciliation, my voice echoed.
"Punish Serena Sullivan?" I sneered, "Wasn’t all this condoned by you? You punish her, then what about yourself?"
Julian was speechless and then heard me say, "You came to find me. Do you know what I’m doing now?"
"I know! I know, you’re now Elysian’s Chief Aromatherapist. You’re amazing, I know..." Julian muttered as if clinging to a lifeline.
"Good," my voice noticeably grew more pleased, "Then you should know my dream. Let me ask you, if I go back with you, will you fulfill my aromatherapy dream?"
"I will!" Julian looked up, the light in his eyes flickered with excitement, "I’ll give you the best resources, you know, I’ll introduce you to..."
I extended my index finger, placing it at Julian’s lips.
Seriously examining his face, I used to love this face most. Not sure what its owner had gone through; the once meticulous image now even didn’t bother shaving his beard. Regretfully, I withdrew my hand.
"No, you won’t, Julian."
Julian was about to argue, but I gave him another look, stopping him in his tracks.
"Did you forget? Our academy doesn’t accept students who only copy..." With a hint of sarcasm, I looked at him, "Julian, thanks to you, even my credentials in the country were ruined, so how could I get to know your network?"
"Does your esteemed school only cultivate students to plagiarize?"
Julian could say nothing more.
"The winter in Caelus is cold, but staying beside you, I feel even colder."
The lifeline turned into the last snowflake.
With the emptiness beside me, I stumbled backward, but Adrian Sinclair caught me in time.
Julian was pushed to the side.
Seeing the man standing next to me, he dryly spoke, "You have someone new, don’t you?"
I found it amusing and held Adrian Sinclair’s hand, signaling to Julian.
"Someone new?" I scoffed, "Do you have no respectful way to address someone? This is my boyfriend, you already met him last time; it’s not the so-called ’new fling’ you think it is."
With that, I headed upstairs with Adrian Sinclair.
Watching me disappear from his sight, Adrian looked down at the hand I just held, chuckled self-deprecatingly, then turned his hand downward, as if clutching the person he had just held firmly in his palm.
Back home, I slumped on the chair. Reflecting on today’s encounter with Julian, I knew my words wouldn’t fully deter him, but I really didn’t want to meet with him again. Clearly, I already had a new life, so why was he so relentless in following?
Standing up, a key slipped from my pocket, it was Adrian Sinclair’s keychain. I was thinking about returning it to him at work tomorrow when I heard a knock at the door.
I opened the door, thinking Adrian Sinclair had come to retrieve his key, but surprisingly, it was Julian Lancaster outside.
How did he find me?
I immediately tried to shut the door, but Julian reacted faster, quickly stepping into my apartment.
"You’re lying to me, aren’t you?" Julian’s eyes were deep.
"What?"
"If he’s your boyfriend, then why didn’t you keep him?"
I laughed bitterly, "Do you think everyone is like you? Liking someone means going to bed with them?"
"That’s not what I meant..." Julian spoke awkwardly, "I just, it’s just..."
He hesitated for a long time but couldn’t say more.
"If you have nothing else, please leave. This is my home."
A long silence ensued, so long I thought he wouldn’t speak again.
"Uncle Shaw... he passed away..." Julian leaned against the door, slowly sliding down.
