Chapter 29: Chapter 29: I Hope You All Live Well

"I don’t know what’s gotten into him. He looked at us like we were his mortal enemies.

We had just gotten Nana safely into the car, all of us protecting her."

Jenny Warner said through her tears. The man behind her was silent, his eyes full of grim resentment.

"I know no one wants to spare any medicine right now,

we just want to borrow your raincoats."

It turned out Jenny Warner had seen them from across the hall. She saw that visitors had arrived at Chelsea Walsh’s apartment, and more importantly, that those two were wearing acid-proof raincoats.

"We’ll definitely return them! We can pay!"

Isaac Lawson finally spoke. With no cash at home, he took out a golden bracelet.

"I have medicine."

Upon seeing the golden bracelet,

Nina Jacobs walked toward Isaac Lawson and took it from his hand.

"What’s your daughter’s name?"

She asked only after examining the golden bracelet in her hand and confirming it was real gold.

"Her name is Melanie Lawson. Do you really have medicine?"

Jenny Warner asked excitedly.

"Take me to see her."

Nina Jacobs nodded. She had used her Five Senses Enhancement and overheard Ivan Lawson’s insane rant.

If Melanie Lawson had truly been contaminated by the acid rain, no medicine in the world would work.

"That’s wonderful."

The couple wept with joy.

Chelsea Walsh was surprised. Nina Jacobs seemed so cold, but she was actually this kindhearted. Her opinion of Nina improved even more.

Nina Jacobs carefully examined Melanie Lawson.

The little girl was already comatose with a high fever.

"We had some medicine at home, and we even borrowed some from a kind neighbor, but we’ve used it all, and nothing has worked," Isaac Lawson explained.

"Have her drink this."

Nina Jacobs took out a small brown bottle.

Inside the bottle was the system’s Healing Potion, which she had transferred into the container to avoid suspicion.

It looked a bit like a bottle of cough syrup.

Melanie Lawson’s body showed signs of acid rain burns, but the wounds weren’t festering or oozing pus.

’She guessed there was a good chance Melanie Lawson hadn’t been infected by the virus in the acid rain.’

’But that could change if her fever was left unchecked.’

Desperate for a cure, the couple didn’t even ask what the medicine was before giving it to Melanie Lawson.

"Pushing a child that small out of the car... What was he thinking?"

Leo Hale muttered from the doorway, unable to comprehend it.

The atmosphere in the room grew tense.

But then, Jenny Warner’s expression slowly turned to one of joy:

"Nana’s breathing isn’t as labored as before!

The medicine is working! It’s working!"

[Host’s action will save one human life. "Selfless Savior" title triggered. Reward: 1 bottle of Healing Potion.]

The system’s notification chimed again.

Nina Jacobs got up. "We should head back now."

’Since the system said Melanie Lawson was going to be fine, then she was going to be fine.’

"I hope you all manage to stay alive."

’Ivan Lawson wanted this family to die in agony. Well, she wasn’t about to let him get his wish.’

"It’s a good thing you guys came over.

That Ivan Lawson... he was tricked into a pyramid scheme once. His brother and sister-in-law had to pay to get him out.

I can’t believe he’s so ungrateful."

Chelsea Walsh had clearly bounced back. Perhaps because she hadn’t spoken to anyone in days, the stories about her neighbors and the events of the past week came pouring out of her.

Nina Jacobs listened quietly.

’How had she not realized what a scumbag Ivan Lawson was in her past life?’

「Late that night.」

While Leo Hale and Chelsea Walsh were asleep, Nina Jacobs slipped out of the old apartment complex without waking anyone.

A Superpower User’s constitution was greatly enhanced. They didn’t feel tired, physically or mentally, even without a full night’s sleep.

The system’s eleventh "zero-cost acquisition" mission was nearby.

It was the warehouse district of an e-commerce industrial park.

Many e-commerce companies in City D used this park as their shipping hub. Nina Jacobs’s mission was to collect 60% of the supplies stored there.

However, she soon discovered there seemed to be other people in the park.

From the sounds, it was probably a few security guards who had been on duty when the disaster struck.

Fortunately, they were in the office building up ahead, not in the warehouse district.

Still, just to be safe, Nina Jacobs used some of her system experience to redeem a bottle of Invisibility Potion.

The Invisibility Potion only lasted for thirty minutes.

Once she drank it, her raincoat and shoes became invisible along with her body.

At first, Nina Jacobs had been puzzled as to why the system only required her to collect 60% of the supplies.

But she understood after stumbling upon a massive warehouse full of adult products.

’She had no use for that stuff.’

Nina Jacobs was absolutely sure of it.

The supplies in the e-commerce park were incredibly diverse, including small appliances, furniture, and even plants and flowers.

Nina Jacobs selectively collected some small appliances she thought might be useful, and from the plant section, she grabbed some nutrient-rich soil for planting.

Some of the warehouses that lacked flood-proofing were already taking on water, so Nina only collected supplies from the upper shelves.

The minutes ticked by. Finally, just before the Invisibility Potion wore off, the system chimed with a notification.

Nina Jacobs breathed a sigh of relief and quickly ran out of the industrial park...

「Day seven of the acid rain. Early morning.」

Leo Hale was discovering that Nina Jacobs was a truly warm-hearted person.

Before they left, Nina Jacobs left some more food and drinks for the couple across the hall.

"Thank you, miss."

Melanie Lawson’s fever had broken. Her face was still pale, but she smiled happily as she accepted a box of chocolates.

Chelsea Walsh, on the other hand, had spent the morning busily making a package of... something. She said she was leaving it for a neighbor.

Leo Hale watched as she carefully placed it by the door of an apartment downstairs, a triumphant smirk spreading across her face.

"What did you leave for them?"

Leo Hale asked through his headset.

Nina Jacobs had gotten Chelsea Walsh a set of the same gear.

Leo Hale had no idea where she got it all from; Nina Jacobs’s backpack was like a bag of holding.

"A pack of explosives."

Chelsea Walsh’s reply made Leo Hale stumble.

’What the hell was she doing, leaving a bomb at someone’s door?’

Nina Jacobs was intrigued. "Are those the people who stole your things?"

Chelsea Walsh nodded from inside her raincoat. Thinking she had scared the beautiful and kindhearted Nina Jacobs, she quickly explained:

"Don’t be scared. I had limited materials at home, so I could only make a small charge.

But it’ll be more than enough to blow their door off its hinges. Heh heh."

Remembering what was supposed to happen the next day, Nina Jacobs couldn’t help but laugh.

’Blowing the door off would leave those people completely exposed to the claws of the zombies.’

’But then again, they brought it on themselves.’

"You women are terrifying."

Leo Hale decided it would be best not to get on any woman’s bad side in the future.

Especially not the two women walking ahead of him, chatting and laughing...

On the way back, Nina Jacobs took a different route.

They still needed the inflatable raft, but a news bulletin on her phone indicated that the refugees on this route had already been rescued by the local fire department.

"Captain, we’ve confirmed. The person we’re looking for wasn’t among the civilians rescued this morning."

Inside a heavy military vehicle, Elijah Young listened to his subordinate’s report.

"Understood. Expand the search area and keep looking."

Elijah Young commanded with a frown.

’Could Chief Lawson’s grandson really be dead?’

Just then, his eyes caught three figures not far from the vehicle’s window, all bundled up tightly.

The trio was emerging from a flooded area, dragging an inflatable raft behind them.
