Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Wyatt Sterling Allows Someone Else to Date Her

Owen Sterling’s expression was grave. "Alice isn’t feeling well because of her period. She didn’t mean to ditch Second Uncle. Please explain this to Third Uncle, and don’t be too hard on her. Her life with the Sterlings is already difficult enough."

His tone was filled with heartache for Alice.

"I see. I understand. I will report this to the Third Master exactly as you’ve told me." Mason Cheney nodded.

Owen Sterling said nothing more, opened the door, and went inside.

Mason Cheney let out a breath, walked over to her door, and called out, "Miss York," then waited patiently.

Inside, Alice was urging Wyatt Sterling to hurry up and leave. His expression was displeased as he gripped the wrist she was using to shove him. "And what if I said I’m not leaving tonight? That I’m sleeping here?"

"Absolutely not!"

Alice objected without a second thought.

Wyatt Sterling’s expression turned chillingly cold. "You lose your head the moment Owen Sterling shows up."

Alice was baffled. "What does this have to do with Owen?"

She didn’t know which word had set him off, but Alice watched as fury flared on Wyatt Sterling’s face. "You think I don’t know what that mother of yours is planning?"

Alice pressed her lips together and furrowed her brow. "I don’t know what you’re talking about, Third Uncle."

"Then you’d better get rid of those ideas." With that, Wyatt Sterling opened the door and left.

Alice called out to stop him, "Third Uncle!"

Wyatt Sterling stopped but didn’t turn around. Alice couldn’t understand where his anger was coming from, nor did she grasp his warning.

All she wanted to ask now was, "Third Uncle, did you come especially to see me tonight?"

As her voice faded, Wyatt Sterling turned around. His frigid expression created an instant distance between them. "I forgot it was your time of the month."

With that, he shut the door behind him.

Alice gave a bitter smile. ’And I really thought he was concerned about me. Turns out, all he ever thinks about is that one thing.’

"Third Master." Mason Cheney was waiting outside, clearly having something to say.

Wyatt Sterling asked in a cold voice, "Which hand did Kyle Churchill use to touch her tonight?"

Mason Cheney froze for a moment, uncharacteristically slow to respond.

Wyatt Sterling’s expression darkened. "You didn’t see?"

"I saw! I saw!" By the time Mason Cheney snapped back to his senses, he was drenched in a cold sweat. He quickly replied, "It was his left hand. I saw Kyle Churchill use his left hand to try and take Miss York’s."

A murderous aura emanated from Wyatt Sterling. "Kyle Churchill!"

Beside him, Mason Cheney didn’t dare to even breathe.

Old Mr. Churchill had indeed asked the Third Master and the Eldest Young Master to leave tonight because of the private mourning ceremony. Apart from the Second Master and Miss York, the rest of the Sterlings had to be absent.

Before he left, Wyatt Sterling had ordered Mason Cheney to keep a close watch out front. Mason hadn’t dared to slack off in the slightest, his eyes peeled.

When he saw Kyle Churchill try to take Alice’s hand, Mason’s hair stood on end. ’That Kyle Churchill has a death wish!’

"Did you get a clear look at that person in the hallway just now?" Wyatt Sterling asked as they walked.

"I saw him clearly. A servant had already come looking for him by the time I gave chase, and they took him back."

Wyatt Sterling snorted. "Go remind William Churchill to keep a better watch on that person."

"Yes, sir. I’ll go at once," Mason Cheney replied.

When he got to a room downstairs, Wyatt Sterling pushed the door open and switched on the light. Melody Lancaster’s soft, pliant body immediately pressed against his. "Wyatt~"

Wyatt Sterling eyed her coldly.

His stare sent a chill down her spine. Melody Lancaster retreated slightly, forcing a coquettish smile. "What took you so long?"

Wyatt Sterling walked further into the room, taking off his jacket as he went. "Did you miss me?"

"Mhm, I waited for so long. I was starting to think you weren’t coming back tonight." Melody Lancaster carefully watched his expression, not daring to make another wrong move.

"Where else would I go if I didn’t come back here?" Wyatt Sterling tossed his jacket onto the foot of the bed.

Melody Lancaster bent over to pick it up and hang it for him, but Wyatt Sterling’s voice was low and commanding. "Get out."

Melody Lancaster retracted her hand. She looked at him, her flirtatious eyes full of suggestion. "Tonight, could we...?"

Wyatt Sterling looked impatient. "I don’t want to have to say it again."

He undid his cufflinks and turned to walk into the bathroom.

Melody Lancaster gritted her teeth in frustration, but her expression smoothed out in the next instant as Wyatt Sterling suddenly turned back around.

His piercing gaze made Melody Lancaster’s heart pound with anxiety.

She could never guess his mood; he was always so mercurial.

"Is something wrong, Wyatt?" she asked tentatively.

Wyatt Sterling came back over and asked, "Did you take a lipstick from my things?"

’So that’s what this is about.’

She didn’t dare lie. "I did take one. I thought you had picked it out to give to me."

"Have you used it?"

"No." Melody Lancaster immediately shook her head and clarified, "When I opened it, I could see it had already been used. That’s how I knew it wasn’t meant for me..."

By the end, her tone was tinged with a subtle sense of being wronged.

Wyatt Sterling held out his hand. "Give it to me."

Reluctantly, Melody Lancaster said, "The lipstick is in my purse in my room. I don’t have it on me."

"Then go and get it," Wyatt Sterling said, his every word laced with threat.

Sensing he was genuinely angry, Melody Lancaster didn’t dare say another word and immediately went to the room next door to get the lipstick.

Melody Lancaster returned in less than two minutes with the lipstick. Wyatt Sterling flicked open the magnetic cap and glanced at it, and Melody quickly explained, "I really didn’t use it myself. I just opened it and looked. Alice can be my witness."

Wyatt Sterling glanced up at her. "You showed it to her?"

"I was upset, so I just shared some of my feelings about the lipstick with Alice." Melody’s face flushed as she finally said it: "Wyatt, you don’t care about me at all."

Wyatt Sterling put the lipstick away, his expression softening somewhat. "So, where would you like me to keep you?"

Melody Lancaster bit her lower lip, testing his attitude. "Today I heard several of the Churchill family elders asking when you were going to settle down."

Wyatt Sterling toyed with the lipstick in his hand, a rare smile gracing his lips. "So you want a title?"

Joy lit up Melody Lancaster’s face. "Wyatt, I’ve been with you for three years. Those three years were the best of my youth."

Wyatt asked, "Are you saying I wasted three years of your youth?"

"No, no, no." Melody Lancaster shook her head, rushing to explain. "What I mean is..."

Before she could finish, Wyatt Sterling suddenly reached up and brushed a stray strand of hair from her temple. Melody’s heart raced, and she stared at him without blinking.

Wyatt Sterling lowered his gaze, a hint of what might have been genuine pity in his eyes. "We’ll talk after I finish my business in Washington."

Melody Lancaster immediately nodded obediently. "Okay. I’ll listen to you."

’Even though I didn’t get a title this time, at least now there’s hope,’ Melody Lancaster comforted herself, a smile returning to her face.

「The next day.」

Alice had just come downstairs when she ran into Kyle Churchill. He greeted her with an innocent smile. "Miss York, you look beautiful again today."

Alice returned a polite smile.

She wanted nothing to do with him.

Just as she was about to pass him, Kyle Churchill suddenly put out an arm to stop her. "Miss York, I’m taking you out today."

Alice tilted her head to look at him, a baffled expression on her face. "You’re taking me out?"

Kyle Churchill beamed. "I want to apologize for being so forward last night. I honestly don’t have much experience with girls. As a token of my apology, I’d like to take you out today to make it up to you."

"That’s not necessary, thank you." Alice had no intention of humoring him.

But Kyle Churchill kept blocking her path. "You’re not willing?"

Even though she was angry, Alice maintained her smile. "My Third Uncle and Owen don’t allow me to go out casually."

"You don’t have to worry about that." Kyle Churchill winked at her. "Your Third Uncle has already agreed to let me take you out. You can go ask him if you don’t believe me."
