After Having a Dream, I Became Pregnant with a Billionaire's Child-Chapter 164 - 160: The Scalper Incident
Chapter 164: Chapter 160: The Scalper Incident
Doctor Parker?
Emily Parker frowned.
The scalper claimed to be Doctor Parker himself, and there was only one Doctor Parker in the small clinic, Emily Parker.
Isn’t this saying the small clinic intentionally limits the daily number of patients, but in reality, Emily Parker is scalping tickets to make a huge profit?
Emily Parker looked again at the fake number tag. The imitation was so real, almost indistinguishable from the genuine one, no wonder those anxious patients got duped.
"I also asked around. The scalper is very careful, always wearing a mask and a hat when going out to sell numbers, so you can’t see the face, but by the voice, it’s a woman."
Sister Zhang planned to go outside and see if she could catch the deceitful scalper in the next couple of days.
"Sister Zhang, no need to rush. The small clinic is quite busy these days, let’s wait a few more days and see.
Any extra numbers, I can join Master Lowe in treating patients, so it won’t be too busy."
Emily Parker looked at the number tag and shook her head with a smile.
Sister Zhang showed a puzzled expression,
"But wouldn’t this just embolden the other party even more?"
"I’m planning to embolden them, let them taste the sweetness.
People, after all, are greedy. If they think there’s profit to be made, they’ll definitely issue more number tags.
Once the case reaches a certain amount, they can just wait to rot in jail."
Emily Parker sneered. Daring to set their sights on the small clinic, she was going to make them regret it.
At City First Middle School, Maria Carter returned to class after taking a few days off.
"Maria Carter, you haven’t been to class these past few days.
You must have missed quite a bit. I have class notes here. You can use them."
"Maria Carter, you wanted to see my collection of mistakes before, didn’t you? I’ll lend it to you."
As soon as Maria sat down, several classmates gathered around. They were all very enthusiastic and inquired about the health of Maria’s grandfather.
Maria Carter was generally not very popular at school. Everyone knew her family had money and she was quite proud.
But since Maria did well in the last monthly exam and took the initiative to share her study notes, her popularity improved significantly.
Her classmates realized that Maria wasn’t that cold. When she wasn’t dressed up ostentatiously, she was quite good-looking and very generous.
Besides her original group of close friends, she now had several other classmates in the class she could talk to.
"Maria Carter, I heard you have a good relationship with Doctor Parker at the small clinic at the gate. My aunt’s health isn’t great and she wants to see Doctor Parker, but the appointments might be booked. Can you think of a way to help?"
A classmate asked.
Maria hesitated. She had previously opened a backdoor for the homeroom teacher and got an appointment from Emily Parker. Her brother found out and even threatened to stop her allowance, saying Emily shouldn’t be too stressed while pregnant.
"Sorry, actually Doctor Parker and I are just acquaintances."
Maria had just finished speaking when the homeroom teacher walked in.
"Maria Carter, the National Day performance is coming up soon. The school has rehearsals. I remember you sing well. You’ll be the lead singer for the performance this year."
Maria Carter looked flattered.
From a few rows ahead, Amelia Willow witnessed everything, especially when she heard the homeroom teacher appointing Maria as the lead singer. Amelia couldn’t help but grip her pen tightly.
Amelia wasn’t just good at academics; she also excelled in singing and dancing, and she was good-looking, always the star performer in class.
She didn’t expect Maria Carter to replace her this year.
Why does it have to be Maria Carter?
Is it because her family has money?
Does the homeroom teacher favor her?
Everything that belonged to Maria should have been hers.
Amelia’s deskmate noticed her displeased look and whispered,
"That Maria Carter is shameless, secretly currying favor with the homeroom teacher.
I heard she managed to get an appointment at the small clinic for the teacher’s mom."
Upon hearing this, Amelia couldn’t help but bite her lip.
She had asked her older brother thoroughly. It seemed Emily Parker’s fortunes had turned, having apprenticed under a renowned traditional medicine master.
The clinic near the school, which was almost closing down, thrived once it had the famous master as its signboard.
Even Emily Parker, just a small nurse, had appointments more sought after than her brother, who was a legit medical graduate.
If only Emily had had such a mentor earlier, she and her mom wouldn’t have opposed her brother Adam Willow being with her.
Sophie Parker was too depressed to even accept Charles Pond’s invitation to a movie.
Back home, she threw her backpack onto the sofa.
"Mom, is Adam out on a date with Sophie again?
Honestly, thinking about it now, Sophie doesn’t seem any better than Emily. It would be great if Emily became my sister-in-law.
At least Emily cooks well and tutors adeptly."
Grace Willow recently made some money, recalling her son mentioning Sophie was great at trading stocks.
She entrusted all her money to Sophie for stock trading. When she asked, Sophie said she and Adam had already made quite a profit, but Grace’s capital was too small to earn much.
Listening to her daughter’s complaints, Grace Willow sneered,
"What are you talking about?
How can Emily compare to Sophie?
Little Sophie comes from a good family and is an only child. Everything from the Parker Family will be hers in the future.
That Emily is just an illegitimate child, raised without a proper upbringing."
Grace Willow rolled her eyes whenever Emily was mentioned.
That damned girl cleared out their house and blocked her contact.
Before, when the small clinic was booming, Grace thought Emily still favored her son Adam and wanted to curry favor with her by asking for more clinic tickets privately.
But Emily just blocked her number.
When she called from another number, Emily hung up upon recognizing her voice.
What kind of decent girl treats her elders like this?
"Mom, but you don’t know how much money doctors make now.
Emily charges tens of thousands per patient."
"So what if she makes tens of thousands? She still has to work hard for it,
while Sophie’s family is in politics, and Sophie trades stocks. She can make much more easily than Emily’s hard work.
Most of the money she earns might end up with that famous old doctor she hired."
Grace Willow smirked. She didn’t think much of Emily’s medical skills, insisting the clinic’s success relied on Master Lowe.
"That may be so, but thanks to her connection with Emily, Maria Carter is quite popular in class.
She even snagged my lead role for the National Day performance thanks to getting the homeroom teacher a clinic appointment.
Mom, I specially invited Charles’s parents and Grandma Pond to this year’s National Day performance. I wanted to use it to build good relations with the Pond Family."
Amelia Willow felt utterly wronged.
Grandma Pond was prejudiced against her, and Charles’s parents, being filial, opposed Amelia and Charles’s relationship, causing much heartache for them.
"That Maria Carter is shameless.
Daring to snatch my daughter’s lead singer position.
It’s just a clinic appointment. Here, take these.
I’ll give you several clinic tickets."
Grace Willow said as she handed several clinic tickets to her daughter.
"Mom, where did you get these tickets?"
Amelia asked, surprised.
"Of course, Emily gave them to me. Don’t be fooled by Emily’s facade; she still likes your brother, dreaming of me as her future mother-in-law.
These tickets are her tribute to me.
Take them and give them to your teachers."
Grace Willow lied seamlessly, without blushing.
She discovered that scalped clinic tickets sold well.
She was initially worried that the clinic would find the tickets fake, but days passed without any patient complaints. The clinic continued to operate, so Grace felt more brazen.
She planned to sell more tickets, raise capital, and invest with Sophie for a huge profit.
Amelia took several scalped tickets and handed them to a few teachers at school the next day.
Two days later, she delivered even more tickets to her classmates.
As Maria Carter walked into the classroom, passing by Amelia’s deskmate, the latter mockingly said,
"Some people, classmates respect her, ask her to help reserve a spot, yet she makes excuses.
Unlike our Amelia, beautiful and kind-hearted, always willing to help.
Gave me a scalped ticket worth tens of thousands for free."
She flaunted the scalped ticket in Maria’s face as she spoke.
Maria saw it and seized the other person’s hand.
"This number tag? Where did you get it?"
"Hey, let go, my hand’s going to break."
"Maria Carter, let her go.
The number tag was given to my mom by Emily.
Emily wants to please my mom, her future mother-in-law."
Amelia stood up to stop Maria when she saw her bullying.
"Future mother-in-law?
Your mom thinks she’s worthy!"
Maria didn’t believe Emily would do such a thing. She once offered Emily her credit card when she thought Emily was overworked at the clinic, and Emily refused. Emily wasn’t the type to be greedy.
As for currying favor, that seemed even more impossible.
Emily didn’t bother currying favor with her brother, let alone Amelia’s mom!
"I didn’t say anything wrong. Emily is incredibly shameless, still liking my brother even though he’s engaged, trying to be a mistress, always currying..."
Before Amelia could finish, she felt a sharp pain in her scalp. Maria yanked at her hair, pinned her to the ground, and slapped her several times.
"Teach you to spew nonsense!"
The classroom erupted into chaos.
By the time the homeroom teacher arrived, both girls already had their parents on the line.
Amelia, furious and aggrieved, called Grace Willow, but as soon as she dialed, a stern voice answered from the other end.
"Are you a relative of Grace Willow?
Please come to the district police station immediately. Grace Willow has been arrested for illegal business operations."
