After Breaking Up, I Married the General-Chapter 136 - 135: In an unknown planet
Ryzel immediately got to work. He began clearing the pollutants in Layton’s mental sea again to prevent any further damage.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t reinforce their mental lock any further, as he was only channeling his mental power into Layton’s mental sea.
All he could do was continue removing the most aggressive pollutants, just as he had done before.
By the time he finished clearing out the worst of it, his mental power was nearly depleted, so he withdrew from Layton’s mental sea.
He still had to clean a lot of pollutants so as soon as he withdrew from Layton’s mental sea he immediately got a rejuvenating potion and drank it.
After he finished drinking the potion, he stopped for a bit to recover his mental power.
When Ryzel recovered half of his mental power, he wanted to continue cleaning up Layton’s mental power, but Layton opened his eyes before he could enter his mental sea again.
"You’re awake. How are you feeling?" Ryzel immediately asked.
"Better than before," Layton answered while immediately looking at the screen to see where they were.
"I didn’t see anything around, but I tried calling Storm, but he didn’t respond."
"Storm is out of energy, and he was also damaged from passing through an unstable space tunnel.
I still have an extra energy box. I’ll put it to Storm first," Layton said, bringing out an energy box and putting it to Storm.
After Layton put the energy box to Storm, Layton started manually manipulating Storm, and after a minute, the damage and repair percentage of the mecha appeared on the screen.
[85 percent damage. 1 percent self-repair.]
"Storm can also repair itself?" Ryzel asked while looking at the words on the screen.
"Yes, but he could only repair the internal damage to himself. As for the damage to his outer shell, I still need to change it for him." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
"You still have materials for Storm?"
"Yes, I have some spare, but they are not as strong as the original outer shell of Storm. We still need to go back and invite Mr. Holt to truly repair him."
"I see."
Most mechas wouldn’t actually survive such a travel in an unstable space tunnel, as they would just be squeezed by the different forces inside the space tunnel.
So, it can be said that Storm’s materials are really on the highest level; that’s why it was still intact even though it had been badly damaged.
"Did you try contacting Mervin and the others while I was unconscious?" Layton asked.
"Ah, sorry, I forgot. I was so focused on repairing your mental sea that I didn’t contact anyone," Ryzel said, a bit embarrassed.
He had truly forgotten to check his light brain or reach out to anyone, entirely absorbed in cleansing Layton’s mental sea.
It was one of his rare lapses, as he was usually more rational and meticulous when handling things.
"No, you don’t have to apologize for anything. If you hadn’t come to me, I might have been triggered into a manic state," Layton said, pressing a kiss to Ryzel’s forehead.
After that, Layton opened his light brain. He operated it for a while, but Ryzel didn’t hear any response or notification.
So he asked, "How is it?"
"It’s only functioning at the most basic level. I can’t connect to anything. It seems we’re outside the range of the Federation’s main brain," Layton replied.
"We are already out of the Federation’s main brain, so how far are we from the Federation? " Ryzel asked in surprise.
The connection of their federation’s signal was actually very wide because even in the places farther away where there are no planets, they still have mini brains scattered around for connection.
"We still have mini brains scattered for signals in nearby galaxies. So, now that we couldn’t reach anyone, it means we are already in a distant galaxy," Layton said with a very serious expression.
"That means we couldn’t return for a while."
"Yes, we’ll need to wait until Storm is repaired before we can try to establish a connection. I brought a mini brain with me, so once Storm’s ready, it should make the search easier."
"Then I should clear more of the pollutants in your mental sea," Ryzel said seriously.
"I don’t know what exactly happened to you, but it was clearly unnatural.
I’m not sure if there are other side effects that might be triggered, so I need to cleanse more areas of your mental sea as soon as possible."
Ryzel paused briefly before continuing, "We also need to reinforce our mental lock. That way, the pollutants in your mind will be further suppressed, making it easier to cleanse your mental sea."
"I didn’t expect you to be so eager. You should’ve told me earlier," Layton said with a teasing smile.
"You still have time to tease me?! Why don’t you look at your terrible condition first!" Ryzel shot back, glaring at Layton with some embarrassment.
"I know," Layton said softly. "Don’t worry, my condition’s always been terrible when you weren’t with me—so I’m used to it." He leaned in and kissed Ryzel gently.
Then, with a slight smirk, he added, "We can’t go out yet... so bear with me in the mecha for now." His gentle tone quickly turned more intense as he pulled Ryzel in for a deeper, more aggressive kiss.
Afterwards, they spend a long time together to reinforce their mental lock.
It even took longer than usual because their mental lock became very faint because of what happened to Layton.
When Ryzel woke up later and tried to move, he immediately winced from the pain in his hips.
"Ugh..."
"Don’t try to move yet," Layton said, gently rubbing his shoulders to comfort him.
"This is your fault," Ryzel muttered, weakly punching Layton’s chest. But he didn’t try to move again—instead, he simply sat on Layton’s lap and leaned against him.
"Yes, sorry about that," Layton admitted, then held out a water bottle with a straw. "Here, drink this first."
Ryzel began sipping the water while listening to him.
"I’ll set up the healing cabin as soon as possible," Layton continued. "I’m going to check our surroundings first. If there’s no immediate danger, we’ll set up a tent outside so we can rest properly while Storm is being repaired."
"Why didn’t you go and check first?" Ryzel asked because when he saw the time on the screen, it showed that it was already 44 hours after the last time he checked the time when Layton just got up.
After establishing a mental lock, he probably slept for more than eight hours, so Layton surely had enough time to go out and check their surroundings.
"Even with the protective cover we have, I still need you to stay awake in case of an emergency," Layton explained. "Nothing has happened or come near us in the past few hours, and I’ll also come back as soon as I can. Still, you need to be alert so that you can activate additional protective covers if anything goes wrong."
"I see. Then you should go as soon as possible," Ryzel said in understanding.
He knew he couldn’t accompany Layton outside. Even though nothing around them currently looked dangerous—neither the trees nor the plants appeared poisonous or hostile—they were still on an unfamiliar planet.
They didn’t know the gravity, the air composition, or whether there were any dangerous creatures nearby.
As a Guide with a very weak physique, Ryzel knew he wouldn’t survive long in a drastically different environment.
Even with protective gear, it could still be dangerous if the conditions were too extreme or if the suit couldn’t hold up.
Unlike him, Layton possessed a 3S-level physique, strong enough to endure even the harshest environments without needing any protective equipment.
So he could only wait for Layton while he went and investigated their surroundings.
"Drink a nutrient solution first before I go. I’m sorry for making you suffer. Did you pack any food supplies? If you have some, I’ll cook them for you later," Layton said as he took out a nutrient solution specifically formulated for a Guide’s consumption.
"I packed a lot of nutrient solutions and ingredients, but most of them are only suitable for me. I don’t have much that would be good for you," Ryzel said with a hint of worry.
He still had plenty of nutrient solutions and food ingredients suited for his own needs, as he had packed them well before marrying Layton. Back then, he was preparing for the possibility of being sent to the frontier for ten years, so he had stocked up enough to last for a long time.
However, he didn’t have many supplies for Layton. The only things he had packed for him were the ingredients and nutrient solutions they had grabbed in a rush when they had to go to the front lines on their wedding night due to the sudden attack of the zergs.
Sentinels have different consumption than guides, as they need to consume more than them, so he was worried that Layton wouldn’t have enough food.
