After Betrayal: Lightning Marriage to Mr. Enigmatic-Chapter 830: Secretary Zuo Also Sneaks a Bite
Harry Hunter found a very sturdy tree that bore quite a number of fruits, dug it up along with the soil, wrapped it in cling film, and had David put it in the car to take back with them.
He washed his hands in the creek and led Isabella Weaver back to the campsite, where smoke was already swirling around, and aromas were omnipresent.
"Jace, the fire is too fierce, make it smaller."
"Jace, we’re out of water, fetch another bucket."
"Jace, try my mushroom soup, does it need more salt?"
On the grass, Zoe Lewis had Jace running around with her orders, but every dish she prepared was given to Jace to taste, almost feeding him to full.
Jace returned with a bundle of branches, protesting discontentedly: "Zoe, why not let me taste it for you? I want some mushroom soup too. The flavor is too fresh! You can’t let Jace have it all!"
There were no mushrooms on Mount Verity; those Zoe used for the soup were actually brought from the city.
"Don’t worry, there’s enough for you. Once Isabella and the others are back, we’ll drink together. Oh, look who’s back!"
Zoe’s eyes lit up upon seeing a basket of wild vegetables: "Quite a haul!"
Isabella handed the basket to her: "Too bad we didn’t find wild rabbits or chickens, otherwise our chef would have even more room to play with."
Zoe bent over laughing: "Lucky for them not to encounter us, but the fish weren’t so fortunate, they’ve become crispy fried fish now."
Holding out a plate to Isabella, Zoe’s face was red from the fire, her forehead covered in sweat, yet she was in high spirits, as excited as a caged bird set free, murmuring softly: "It’s really tasty, Jace even secretly ate two little fish just now."
She tried hard to hold back her laughter, but Isabella couldn’t resist, bursting into laughter.
Jace stealing fish to eat?
He seemed like someone without desires or needs, rarely speaking, and his emotions never seemed stirred. Even when sitting by the fire on the grass, he had an air of detachment from worldly matters.
Isabella stole a glance at Jace.
Just how good was the fish for serious Jace to steal a taste?
Jace knew they were both looking at him, aware they were surely talking about him.
But his face remained composed, his heart steady, sitting upright, emitting an aura of righteousness.
Isabella withdrew her gaze, pinched a small fish with her fingers, and bit off half.
The crispy and tender texture instantly delighted her taste buds. She popped the other half into her mouth, munching loudly: "Delicious! Crispy outside, tender inside, perfect!"
The small fish were only the size of a finger, marinated and then coated with egg liquid, fried to a golden crisp.
Their small size made the bones tiny and soft, with no hint of fishy smell, just the delicate, fresh fragrance of fish meat.
Isabella held the plate, pinched a little fish, and fed Harry Hunter.
Harry opened his mouth to eat, finding the taste pleasant, and continued eating several more. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Isabella went around distributing from the plate since there were many people; everyone got to eat two or three fishes. When she reached Jace, there were none left!
Jace looked at the empty plate, instinctively licking his lips.
Where were the crispy tender silver fish?
All eaten?
If he’d known, he would have stolen a few more.
Zoe had been watching him. Seeing him lick his lips, she almost burst into laughter.
She fetched another plate, walked to Jace, and gave him three small fish: "Are my little fish tasty?"
Jace couldn’t violate his conscience. He nodded: "Delicious."
