After Betrayal: Lightning Marriage to Mr. Enigmatic-Chapter 812: My Sister Is Faking Illness
"Ha, nice dream. If you can live to be eight hundred, I’ll call you grandma!"
Ben retorted at her a couple of times, sending Harry Hunter and Isabella Weaver out the door.
The old lady watched helplessly as the priceless painting was carried away, feeling so heartbroken she nearly spat blood.
Hateful that she couldn’t stop it, she could only vow secretly to outlive the old man, so when he dies, she would take all the good stuff to her grave, never letting Isabella benefit from it.
Once out of the ancestral home, Harry Hunter finally said to the old man, "Don’t let Cherry Lewis come, have the chef make the meals. You shouldn’t take risks just to deal with her."
"There’s no risk, could she possibly dare to poison me? If I don’t call her to cook, the old hag will invite her every day, and now she’s roped in Zoe Lewis too. Cherry Lewis would have too many chances to poison me if she wanted to."
Ben understood his sudden fainting scared his grandson, so he softened his tone to comfort him, "This situation has nothing to do with her, maybe it’s just that I’m old and Satan is summoning me!"
Harry Hunter looked at him coldly, his face steely green.
Isabella Weaver hurriedly said, "Grandpa, you’ll live a long life, don’t say such unlucky things! Didn’t you promise me you’d help raise the kids? Little ones are really naughty, you need to be very healthy, or you won’t be able to catch up with your great-grandchildren’s mischief!"
Ben hadn’t expected her to bring this up, he paused for a moment, then laughed heartily, "Alright! Good child, then grandpa will live a few more years and take good care of my health!"
Harry Hunter’s expression finally eased a bit, as he pulled Isabella Weaver into the car and left.
No sooner had they left than Zoe Lewis appeared.
She obediently approached and took Ben’s arm, sweetly calling "Grandpa," behaving just rightly.
Seeing she came alone today, Ben was curious, "Where’s your sister?"
"My sister is sick today, she had me come to cook and show filial piety to you and grandma."
"Really sick?"
A mischievous smile finally broke through Zoe’s obedient facade, as she lively blinked at Ben and whispered, "Nothing escapes you, my sister is pretending to be sick. She doesn’t want to cook and doesn’t dare come!"
Ben laughed heartily, see, his methods are effective!
Better than any force or threats!
The more you don’t want her to come, the more she wants to, and when you absolutely want her to come, she’s had enough and refuses to.
Ben patted Zoe’s hand, "Don’t worry, there’s a chef at home today, you don’t have to cook, just wait to eat. But, you know how to tell your sister, right?"
"Oh, today I cooked so much my hand hurts, tomorrow I’ll pretend to be sick too and not come."
"You clever girl!"
"I’m not bright, I still need grandpa to guide me, hehe."
Zoe laughed lightly, delighted at unexpectedly winning the old man’s favor.
The old man seemed easygoing, but was actually hard to truly approach. Zoe suspected that the old man was particularly cheerful today because Harry Hunter and Isabella Weaver had pleased him, hence his warmth towards her.
However, it wasn’t just the old man who showed her warmth.
The old lady was especially heartfelt today, at times crying about her grievances, at times complaining that both the old man and grandson were siding with outsiders, and at times subtly probing if she liked Harry Hunter.
Zoe was startled and, of course, said no.
She dared not get close to Harry Hunter; even her father feared him greatly, so how much more for her.
