After Betrayal - I Married a Handsome Tycoon-Chapter 85: Love Separated by Mountains and Seas, but They Can Be Leveled
Moira turned at the sound of his voice. Connor Quinn’s brow was furrowed.
It was clear this was his last resort.
The corners of Moira’s lips quirked up. It was as if she’d been forced onto the moral high ground.
When she didn’t answer, Connor added, "I can also do the chores—laundry, cooking, cleaning."
"Deal," Moira said.
’She had to agree eventually, so she might as well quit while she was ahead and keep things from getting awkward.’
They spent the day at the hospital. That evening, Moira went with Connor in his car to the tattoo shop to move his things.
Jade Quinn was still in the hospital, so for now, only Connor was moving in.
When the car pulled up to the tattoo shop, Connor asked Moira, "Want to come inside for a bit?"
Moira glanced up at the lit-up tattoo shop. Worried it would start rumors if she got out, she said languidly, "I’d better not."
"Alright," Connor said. "I’ll go pack up then."
As Connor got out of the car, Moira twirled a strand of hair around her finger. "Connor."
Connor looked back. "Yeah?"
A small smile played on Moira’s lips. "As long as you don’t keep pursuing me, I’m actually a pretty good friend to have."
’They were about to live together, seeing each other constantly. Some things just had to be said upfront.’
When Moira finished, Connor stared at her for a moment. His gaze was so intense it made her feel unnerved. "Got it," he finally replied in a low voice.
A moment later, Connor got out. Moira, still in the car, let out a long sigh.
’Wait, she was just trying to do a good deed. How did she end up feeling like some kind of heartbreaker who plays with people’s feelings and refuses to take responsibility?’
Meanwhile, Connor entered the tattoo shop and carried his luggage downstairs.
Zachary Curran was manning the shop that night. When he saw Connor carrying a suitcase downstairs, he quickly got up to help him with it.
"Connor, you found a place to rent?"
Connor sidestepped his outstretched hand, his voice cold. "Yeah."
Zachary beamed, happy for him. "Where’d you rent? I’ll come over after work tomorrow to help you unpack, and then we can..."
"It’s not convenient," Connor said.
Zachary grinned. "How could it not be convenient? Connor, are you just trying to get out of cooking for me? Let me tell you, I’ve learned a few new dishes recently and I’m pretty good. You won’t have to cook for me—I’ll cook for you."
With that, Zachary once again tried to help Connor with his suitcase.
Connor was a tall man who didn’t smile much to begin with. When his expression turned cold, he was downright intimidating.
Zachary flinched, belatedly realizing that Connor wasn’t joking.
Zachary scratched his head. Assuming Connor’s bad mood was because Moira Sloan was with Leo Lawson, he braced himself and offered some reluctant advice, his expression conflicted.
"Connor, I told you a long time ago, you and Moira aren’t the same kind of people."
"She’s so high-maintenance. A guy without some serious money could never keep her happy."
"And another thing, you..."
Before Zachary could finish, Connor had already walked out the door with his suitcase.
Zachary hurried after him, just in time to see Connor toss the suitcase into the back seat, then walk around to the driver’s side, open the door, and pause.
But that brief pause was just long enough for Zachary to see someone else sitting in the car.
It was the proprietress from the shop next door!
Zachary looked utterly stunned. In a panic, he whipped out his phone and sent a text to Leo Lawson: Lawson, are you and the proprietress of the Lacquerware shop together?
Leo Lawson replied instantly with a single word: Yeah. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Seeing Leo’s reply, Zachary’s expression suddenly tensed. He then looked up at Connor’s retreating back, his face a mask of bitter disappointment.
’The Connor he idolized... how could he? How could he just abandon all his principles and become the other man for a woman?!’
Watching the scene unfold, Zachary was a mess of complicated emotions—he felt upset, but also found it hard to accept.
Just then, a message came in from Leo: What’s up?
Zachary: Nothing.
’He didn’t dare say anything,’ Zachary thought. ’That was *his* Connor, after all.’
Meanwhile, Moira, sitting inside the car, had no idea what had just transpired. With her slender legs crossed, she was languidly playing a matching game on her phone to kill time.
Connor stood outside the car, smoking, his gaze fixed down on her. His eyes were deep and unreadable.
’The girl he had longed for day and night for twelve long years. She had finally crossed a thousand miles, and after all the twists and turns, she was back by his side.’
’Did it matter if they weren’t the same kind of people?’
’He wasn’t even afraid of the fact that she didn’t love him. Why would he be afraid of them not being the same kind of people?’
Heh.
