After Being Cyber Bullied, She Reveals Her True Identity-Chapter 560: Spin-off: Lone Shadow Walks Alone 1
Chapter 560: Spin-off: Lone Shadow Walks Alone 1
"You’re the older sister, how should you take care of your younger sister?" A stern voice pierced into Shen Yan’s ears, and she could only remain silent.
In the living room, the gentle voices of her parents comforting her constantly crying sister filled the air.
Shen Yan pressed her lips tightly together and walked away.
It was only after her parents left in the evening that she came out of her room.
She had always been cautious not to appear too unusual, for fear of being pointed at and called a monster again.
From the very beginning, she felt abnormal, having seen people like her sent to mental institutions.
Therefore, she had always masked her unusual self.
Shen Yan didn’t realize that it was her restraint that had allowed her to safely pass through these many years.
Otherwise, she would have fallen into that abyss much sooner.

Shen Yan had to attend school every day, and also look after her younger brother and sister when she got home.
Their parents and other family members were researchers and were extremely busy most of the time.
Even though they had a nanny, as the older sister, it was imperative for Shen Yan to take care of her siblings, especially during school terms.
When she was in middle school, her two younger siblings had already started elementary school.
The campuses were only a few minutes apart.
Every time, when the family driver took the three of them to school, she would get off at the crossroads and then walk to her school.
Today was no different.
"Sister, aren’t you taking me to school?" Shen Ning, who was starting elementary school today, felt somewhat uneasy and hoped for someone to accompany her.
"Your brother will be with you," Shen Yan declined Shen Ning’s request.
Shen Ning immediately became unhappy, "But I want my sister to take me inside."
"I’ll be late."
"Being late once won’t matter much. If you don’t take me, I’ll tell mom and dad!" Shen Ning pouted, clearly upset as she threatened.
Shen Yan’s eyes darkened, "Just this once."
Shen Ning brightened, "Yes, just this once."
Ultimately, Shen Yan was still late. Although the teacher didn’t say much, her classmates looked at her somewhat differently.
After school, the teacher called for her.
Her grades had always been maintained in the upper-mid range, never too high or too low, something she had controlled since elementary school.
As long as she wanted that score, she could get it with pinpoint accuracy.
Then, using her spare time, she would go to the nearby library to study some new knowledge.
Shen Ning called her when Shen Yan had already headed to the library.
To facilitate communication, their parents had provided them with phone watches.
Each time Shen Yan answered a call from her family, it was either to instruct them to do something or to question them; her social circle was very oppressive.
It was only at the library that she could truly relax.
She had thought about, once she learned more and gained stronger abilities, moving to a very distant place to live.
There, she could meet new friends and live the life she desired.
Just thinking about these things, the corners of her mouth couldn’t help but curl up slightly.
Shen Yan adjusted her schedule and then found a stack of books to hide behind and read in a corner.
At her age, studying such profound materials could easily draw attention.
So she always used middle school textbooks to cover up what she was studying, or just hid away altogether.
When Shen Yan came out, she saw Shen Ning squatting at the intersection.
With reddened eyes, Shen Ning ran over and accused, "Why didn’t you answer my call? I went looking for you and fell and scraped my knee, look."
Shen Yan looked down at Shen Ning’s knee, and indeed, the skin was broken and was oozing blood.
"There’s a pharmacy ahead; let’s go."
"My leg hurts."
"Sit down; I’ll be back quickly," Shen Yan dropped these words and hurried to the pharmacy ahead. She returned quickly with medicine and began cleaning and bandaging Shen Ning’s knee.
"Where’s Shen Feng?"
"He went back earlier."
"Why didn’t you go back with him?"
Shen Ning turned her face away, "I just don’t want to go back. Why can you go out and I can’t?"
Shen Yan just glanced at her, "Fine, don’t touch the water for now, it will hurt."
"What about taking a bath tonight?"
"Let Aunt Chen help you with that."
"I don’t want Aunt Chen to wash me, sister, will you help me?"
"I still have to supervise Shen Feng doing his homework."
"Help me wash first, then supervise brother’s homework."
Shen Yan said, "It’s just a scrape. Even if it gets wet, the medicated plaster won’t hurt too much."
"But I’m scared of the pain, sister, you’re the best, help me wash."
Shen Yan frowned but finally nodded.
Shen Ning smiled happily again.
Shen Ning didn’t know that Shen Yan didn’t want to hear her say those words like "I’m going to tell mom and dad."
That evening, after helping Shen Ning bathe, she tutored Shen Feng’s homework.
Shen Feng was slightly rebellious. He wasn’t incapable, he just didn’t like how Shen Yan treated him as if she was an adult.
"I don’t want to write anymore."
"Then don’t write," Shen Yan wasn’t insistent.
Shen Feng was taken aback, "What if mom and dad ask when they get back..."
Just as Shen Yan was leaving the room, she turned back and stared at Shen Feng, "I’ll watch you finish."
Shen Feng huffed but obediently completed his homework.
The first thing the parents did when they got home was to ask how their brother and sister were doing at school. Then, sternly, they asked her if she had taken good care of her siblings, earnestly reminding her, "You are the eldest sister. Although we have a nanny, there are times when she might not see everything, so as an elder sister, keep a closer watch."
When the parents lectured seriously, the brother and sister were looking at the gifts their parents had brought them.
And this situation had become all too normal for them.
Shen Yan watched as the gift initially meant for her split into two and was monopolized by her siblings without saying a word.
She had once spoken out, fought for it, but later on, the parents would only say, "You are the eldest, you understand the importance of giving in."
Over time, she stopped expecting anything.
Gifts only came to her if her siblings didn’t want them.
She would accept whatever unwanted items were pushed onto her. freewebnσvel.cѳm
There were many things in her heart that she dared not mention to her parents or family.
She felt like she had never blended into this family.
Thus, she harbored thoughts of escaping.
Before she had the capability, she could only endure.
That year, she was 13.
At 13, still at a tender age with no one to guide her, she had discovered physical abnormalities in herself from the age of three or four, around the time Shen Feng was born.
Normal children wouldn’t be like her.
Dull and lifeless, almost autistic.
Since she could remember, her parents had never been around. Only after Shen Feng was born did she realize that children could be treated differently.
After Shen Feng came Shen Ning, and she felt forced to grow up overnight.
Shen Yan, carrying her school bag, took a detour from school to the library. The usual route was closed for repairs, so today she had to take a longer route to the library.
Just into early winter, Shen Yan tightened her scarf, about to cross the path, when she heard a splash from the nearby artificial lake and then saw a boy no more than two years older than her walking out from the lakeside woods, chatting and laughing, and glanced at her when passing by.
Shen Yan looked in that direction but saw a flailing figure on the lake surface, quickly sinking.
She tightened her grasp on her backpack straps, not wanting to meddle.
She walked a few steps away, but ultimately couldn’t bear to see a life disappear before her eyes, so she ran towards the manmade grove of trees, threw down her backpack, tore off her scarf, removed her jacket, and plunged into the lake.
The icy lake water engulfed her, sending a chill down her spine.
