After Being Betrayed I Married the Glamorous CEO-Chapter 87: Believe it or not, I’ll beat you to death?!
"What are you muttering about?" Su Xiyang asked curiously, tilting her head.
Shen Fanyun smiled without speaking, his gaze resting on her neck. This beauty, with her luminous, snow-white skin, had grown progressively flushed after a few sips of alcohol, giving her an intoxicating allure. Moreover, Su Xiyang was wearing a V-neck cardigan today, and a direct glance offered an unobstructed view of her impressive figure.
"Hmm?" Su Xiyang sensed something was amiss and immediately glared at Shen Fanyun.
Even in this state, this guy still has the nerve to undress me with his eyes?
"Get lost." Su Xiyang jerked violently, trying to shove Shen Fanyun away with her shoulder.
Shen Fanyun had no choice but to sit up straight and proper.
However, tonight’s date was doomed to be anything but peaceful.
After Zhong Kang and his four companions took their seats, their attention remained fixed on them. Every deliberately affectionate move Shen Fanyun made toward Su Xiyang was seen by Zhong Kang. Recalling how Shen Fanyun had brazenly slapped Su Xiyang’s backside in broad daylight not long ago, Zhong Kang seethed with rage.
This was the goddess of his dreams! He had loved her from afar for years, but his love was unrequited. How could he allow another man to toy with her like this?
What’s more, when Zhong Kang had called Su Xiyang one morning, Shen Fanyun’s lazy voice had cut in, warning him to stay away from her from now on.
Humiliation! What an utter humiliation!
Meeting Shen Fanyun at the bar today by chance, Zhong Kang secretly resolved to make him pay the price, no matter what.
CRACK!
Overcome with agitation, his grip on the glass tightened unconsciously, producing a sharp cracking sound. His friends exchanged glances, then followed his gaze, immediately understanding the situation.
"That Su Xiyang... ignoring a quality man like Brother Kang to hang out with some useless pretty boy."
"Her taste in men is terrible."
"Brother Kang, I’ve had it with that pretty boy. Want me to go over there and give him a beating?" one of the men asked, eager for a fight. He rolled up his sleeves to show off his impressive muscles.
His name was Zhang Dong, a close buddy and childhood friend of Zhong Kang’s. They had grown up together, shared a strong bond, and often gathered for meals and drinks. Compared to Zhong Kang, Zhang Dong was a known brawler, always ready for a fight or to stir up trouble. Youthfully impetuous and from a wealthy family, this young master Zhang, nicknamed "Little Overlord," was someone ordinary people could ill afford to provoke.
"That guy had a run-in with Wang Laohu not long ago," Zhong Kang warned. "He’s still alive and kicking, so he must not be as simple as he looks. Don’t be rash."
Though Zhong Kang couldn’t stand Shen Fanyun, starting a fight recklessly was not a wise move.
At the mention of Wang Laohu, Zhang Dong’s eyebrows shot up in disbelief. "That guy? He dared to clash with a major gangster boss like Wang Laohu?"
"Brother Kang, you must be mistaken." Zhang Dong couldn’t believe it, and the other friends shook their heads as well.
Wang Laohu’s influence in Hangcheng City was plain for all to see. From seventy-year-old elders to five-year-old children, who hadn’t heard of the infamous Wang Laohu?
"Speaking of Wang Laohu, I have to ask... didn’t he get put away recently?" Zhang Dong asked, rubbing his head. The matter was rather disgraceful, so few people were privy to the details, and common folk certainly didn’t dare to gossip about it.
Zhong Kang nodded, confirming Zhang Dong’s news. "Yeah, I heard that too."
"He’s not completely finished for good, is he? He’ll get out eventually, right?" Zhang Dong asked curiously.
Zhong Kang scoffed. "How could that be possible? Do you think this is his first time inside? That place is like a second home to him! Haha, I bet it’s just for show. He could be out any day now."
A person who could climb to his position was naturally no small fry. How could he fall so easily?
Getting back to the matter at hand, Zhang Dong still couldn’t believe that a pretty boy like Shen Fanyun would dare to challenge Boss Wang. Isn’t that like picking a fight with a demon? Like pulling teeth from a tiger’s mouth?
"Right, I almost forgot, this bar is Wang Erhu’s turf," Zhang Dong added.
Wang Erhu was Wang Laohu’s younger brother. He wasn’t as high-profile, but he was still a tough character who, with his brother’s backing, was thriving in Hangcheng City.
"Let’s just drink. Let’s not cause any trouble."
"It’s been a while since we all got together. We have to have a good time tonight."
Zhong Kang did want to deal with Shen Fanyun, but after some thought, he decided against it for now. Shen Fanyun had appeared out of nowhere, and his background was a complete mystery. Zhong Kang knew he needed to investigate him first before making a targeted move. Tonight, he just wanted to drink.
He sighed inwardly. It’s such a rare chance to run into Su Xiyang, but of course, there’s a massive jinx sitting next to her.
For the time being, Zhong Kang truly didn’t want to start anything.
Zhang Dong, however, didn’t see it that way. From his perspective, Zhong Kang had been his brother for nearly twenty years. How could he just stand by and do nothing while his brother was being humiliated? Was that what a real brother did?
Zhang Dong was itching to give Shen Fanyun a taste of his fists.
After three rounds of drinks, Zhang Dong stood up. "I’m going to the bathroom."
Zhong Kang and the others continued drinking, urging him to hurry back.
Zhang Dong grunted noncommittally. After his trip to the bathroom, he didn’t return to his table. Instead, he walked straight over to Shen Fanyun.
Shen Fanyun watched him approach. The idiot finally couldn’t hold back any longer.
He casually shook his crossed leg, one arm draped around Su Xiyang’s shoulders, and raised an eyebrow. "What’s up?"
Zhang Dong crossed his arms and looked down on him, exuding an air of powerful intimidation. "Pretty boy, Brother Kang rarely comes to the bar. Don’t you think you should come over and offer him a toast?"
"Get up," he ordered. "Toast our Brother Kang, and if he’s happy, he might even cover your tab."
Shen Fanyun scratched his ear and replied bluntly, "Who the hell is he? Why should I toast him?"
Zhang Dong was stunned. His plan was to provoke Shen Fanyun, find an excuse to clash with him, and then beat him up. It was all supposed to fall into place. He had anticipated that Shen Fanyun might ignore him, but he never imagined such a contemptuous rejection.
Zhang Dong’s face and neck flushed red. "You... what did you say? You have the guts to say that again?" The nerve of this guy, showing such contempt for my good brother! Calling Brother Kang a nobody? A piece of trash?
"Are you deaf?" Shen Fanyun’s smile didn’t reach his eyes. He turned to Su Xiyang with a theatrical stage whisper. "By the way, let me tell you a secret. Guys with big muscles always have..." He gestured toward his own head. "All brawn, no brains."
Damn it! So he was mocking me, Zhang Dong, too? Insinuating that I have all brawn and no brains, that I’m just a stupid brute?
