After Being Betrayed I Married the Glamorous CEO-Chapter 311 - 309: It’s Time to Pay the Price!
"I have to ensure you die on a momentous occasion, Han Long. So, I won't be making a move on you today!"
Are those even the words of a human?
In an instant, the veins on Han Long's temples bulged, and his expression turned grim. His loyal subordinates rushed to stand before Shen Fanyun, glaring at him fiercely.
This was far too audacious. How dare he speak to Han Long like that? Who was Han Long? He was a tycoon in Hangcheng City, a man who could blot out the sky with one hand and command the elements. When had anyone ever dared to warn or threaten him so directly? In the entirety of Hangcheng City, who didn't show Han Long respect? Who didn't treat him with courtesy and give him a wide berth? Shen Fanyun's words were utterly insolent, arrogant, and disrespectful. That mouth of his was truly vicious. Wasn't he afraid of causing a massive incident? Of inviting a fatal disaster upon himself?
"Kid, do you have a death wish?" a burly man with a crew cut snarled, grinding his teeth. "I'd advise you to watch your words. My master is showing you respect by agreeing to negotiate with you personally. That's him giving you a way out. Don't fucking throw away the respect you're being shown! Do you really think you're all that? To speak to my master like that... you're too reckless. Believe it or not, if I lose my temper, you won't be leaving here alive today!"
Han Long remained silent.
Shen Fanyun, however, nonchalantly took out a cigarette and lit it. After a pause, he continued, "If your master was really so powerful, he wouldn't have scurried over here to negotiate with me in private."
"Has your master always been so courteous when facing an opponent?"
Shen Fanyun's two questions plunged the room into a dead silence.
The burly man's face flushed and paled. He wanted to keep arguing with Shen Fanyun, but the words died on his lips. He was utterly speechless.
He was right. Over the years, how many shortsighted, overconfident fools had tried to challenge the boss? In the end, weren't they all dealt with? Back then, the boss wouldn't even deign to give them a second glance. A single order was all it took to resolve the situation perfectly. But now... Shen Fanyun had actually forced the boss to come down personally and negotiate respectfully. That spoke volumes. If Han Long hadn't perceived him as an extremely thorny problem, why would he go to such lengths? In the past, he would have just ordered his underlings to handle it. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"You..." The burly man gritted his teeth, glaring at Shen Fanyun in frustration.
Shen Fanyun took a drag from his cigarette and leisurely blew a cloud of smoke into the man's face. "Your boss doesn't even dare to run his mouth at me. What gives you the right to puff out your chest?"
"It's plain to see your master no longer wields the same power and influence he used to. At least, it's completely useless against me!"
"I won't leave here alive if you get angry?" Shen Fanyun was thoroughly amused. All talk and no substance. These days, every Tom, Dick, and Harry thinks they're a big shot.
The burly man fell silent, his face shifting between pale and red. After taking a few deep, forceful breaths, he retreated helplessly behind Han Long.
After a long moment, Han Long, his hands casually tucked in his pockets, once again probed Shen Fanyun's position. "So you've decided? You're going to fight me to the bitter end?"
"What do you think?" Shen Fanyun flashed a brilliant grin, his teeth pearly white, looking spirited and full of verve.
For a moment, Han Long was dazed. The young man's confidence and charisma surpassed even his own in his youth.
Back then, he should have cut the weeds and pulled out the roots, sent this kid to meet King Yan. This passive situation was entirely his own doing. What a pity. A single moment of misplaced mercy had led to this. At the time, in front of the entire school, he had berated Shen Fanyun so harshly that the boy didn't dare utter a single word in rebuttal. Not only that, but Shen Fanyun's parents had knelt and apologized, begging him to be magnanimous and let their son go. Back then, Shen Fanyun's family of three was no different from ants in his eyes. What a shame, a true shame. Times had changed; today was not like the old days! Trying to deal with Shen Fanyun easily now was on a completely different level of difficulty than before. He felt the will but lacked the strength.
"I had intended to speak with you reasonably, hoping to bring this turmoil to a peaceful conclusion. But it seems you're not interested," Han Long lamented. Shen Fanyun's attitude was crystal clear. If they couldn't reach an agreement, the only option left was to fight. And he, Han Long, was no vegetarian! If they were going to drop all pretense, then it was time to get serious and see who was truly stronger, who would come out on top.
"I must say, kid, you really hold a grudge."
"To harbor resentment over such a trivial matter for so many years... and now you want me, Han Long, to pay with my life. Impressive. Truly impressive," Han Long remarked with a multitude of emotions.
"Playing the whore while demanding a monument to your virtue? To hear you talk, one would think you're the one being wronged."
"When you were bullying a teenager, did you actually think it was something to be proud of? Now that you're in trouble, you're crying foul, as if someone is targeting you for no reason?"
"You're a man of status in Hangcheng City, so how can you act like such a hypocritical bitch?" Shen Fanyun sneered. This version of Han Long was certainly an eye-opener.
"You did something despicable but don't have the courage to admit it? And now you're blaming the victim? What, are you above everyone else? Too good to be challenged?"
Han Long was speechless. The subordinates' expressions twisted with outrage. This was too arrogant, too presumptuous! To berate their boss like that.
"Shen Fanyun, I'll ask you one last time," Han Long said, his voice turning cold as he composed himself. "Are you sure you want to fight me to the death?"
SLAP!
Tired of the chatter, Shen Fanyun's hand whipped out and slapped Han Long across the face. "You nag like an old woman. Isn't it annoying?"
"Do you have your answer now? If you still don't get it, I can slap you again."
Han Long was stunned into silence. His subordinates froze. The air became dead still.
"Understand my attitude now?" Shen Fanyun stubbed out his cigarette. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he couldn't be bothered to waste any more words on Han Long and began to saunter slowly toward his home.
His voice drifted back, "Rest assured, you will die a miserable death."
Han Long remained frozen on the spot for a long, long time, still struggling to process what had just happened.
"This is absolutely intolerable!" Han Long snarled through gritted teeth. Since it was to be a fight to the death, then he, Han Long, no longer needed to hold anything back.
"Let's go," he ordered his men, swallowing today's humiliation.
His subordinates were terrified. In all their years with Han Long, they had never once seen anyone dare to slap his face. Furthermore, it was not a good thing for them to have witnessed their boss in such a humiliating state. They would rather have seen nothing at all than to have been present for this unbelievable, inconceivable scene.
This… no wonder the rumors claimed Shen Fanyun was a reckless, lawless Demon Lord of Mayhem. There might be mistaken names, but never mistaken nicknames. He truly lived up to his moniker. This man was simply too domineering, too tyrannical. If word of today's events got out, it would cause an absolute uproar. The richest man in Hangcheng City, slapped in the face? That was nothing short of scandalous! More than half the city probably wouldn't believe it and would dismiss it as a baseless rumor.
"Boss, we can make our move now! That brat is courting death! A man like that must be eliminated immediately!" the burly man who had spoken up earlier spat fiercely.
Han Long casually lit another cigarette and stared out the car window without a word. The burly man didn't dare say more. In the car, each person was more silent than the last, as if time and space had frozen solid in that moment.
Shen Fanyun pushed open his apartment door. Mother Shen was making dumplings while his father helped out. Shen Bufan was home on a day off.
"Big brother," Shen Bufan called out.
Shen Fanyun nodded.
Mother Shen quickly wiped her hands and walked over to him. She was silent for a long moment, her gaze flicking toward the window.
"Bufan said a very expensive car is parked downstairs. My eye has been twitching nonstop. Are they here for you?"
Shen Fanyun didn't hide it. "Han Long."
"Ah! That man." Mother Shen's expression changed instantly. He was bad news. She had also heard that Shen Fanyun had recently beaten up Han Feng. With Han Long's immense power in Hangcheng City, would such a reckless provocation lead to disaster?
Mother Shen knew about the injustice and resentment Shen Fanyun had suffered back then. But so many years had passed. Was it really necessary to dig up old scores? Letting bygones be bygones wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Besides, Han Long was no saint. If they truly fought, she feared for Shen Fanyun's safety. Even more, she feared that the nightmare of the past would repeat itself.
"It's nothing," Shen Fanyun said calmly, his tone reassuring. "I came back for him."
"Back then, that shameless bastard nearly drove us to a dead end. It's time he paid the price."
"It's infuriating," Shen Bufan added, also filled with a bellyful of resentment and rage. "He used his money and power to push us to the brink, even scoffing that we weren't worthy of polishing his shoes. Heh." He had been waiting for this day for many years.
It's always best to be kind to others when possible. But Han Long was too arrogant, too self-important, acting as if everyone in Hangcheng City had to bend to his will.
"Why would he suddenly come here looking for you? What does he want?" Mother Shen asked nervously.
Shen Fanyun replied, "Nothing more than hoping we can compromise and de-escalate the situation."
"You definitely wouldn't agree," Mother Shen sighed. She knew her son's temperament all too well and knew he wouldn't let it go.
"Are you really confident? Tell me the truth," she asked, waiting cautiously for his answer.
Shen Fanyun nodded, flashing a bright, white smile. "I'm practically certain."
"Then I can finally relax. Go ahead and do what you must."
This was the answer Mother Shen had wanted to hear. Her anxiety vanished, and the heavy stone hanging in her heart finally settled.
