After Being Betrayed I Married the Glamorous CEO-Chapter 310 - 308: Am I Not Qualified to Challenge You?!
"It's common to have a little friction or even serious disagreements with partners when you're running a company. These things happen.
"It's fine, don't worry. I can handle it myself.
"I can't just come running to you every time a problem pops up. Never mind whether you'd get tired of it; it wouldn't be good for my own growth either.
"At the end of the day, a person has to rely on themselves to grow."
Su Xiyang shrugged, indicating she would handle it. There was no need for Shen Fanyun to waste his time and energy on such a small hiccup.
Shen Fanyun nodded. "You've grown up a lot and become sensible. That's a good mindset to have, very good."
"Are you kidding me? I started my own company in my early twenties. I know better than anyone that you have to rely on yourself."
"Isn't there a saying? 'Rely on a mountain, and it may fall. Rely on a person, and they may flee. The only true path is to rely on yourself.'"
Su Xiyang muttered, thinking the phrase sounded a bit off. She feigned spitting a couple of times and buried her head in Shen Fanyun's abdomen.
That sounded like I was hoping for Shen Fanyun's downfall! No, no, that doesn't count!
"Aunt Lin isn't coming back to Hangcheng City anymore?" Su Xiyang asked.
If that was the case, did it mean Lin Jia would be leaving too? After all, the mother and daughter hadn't been apart for over twenty years. If one was leaving, the other would surely go with her. She wouldn't leave Lin Jia behind alone. Their personalities meshed well, and they'd known each other for so long that she was genuinely reluctant to see the diligent and sensible girl leave. Lin Jia clearly had potential. It was a pity to lose such a promising talent, as she was being groomed for an executive position in the company.
"That's right," Shen Fanyun confirmed.
"Ah," Su Xiyang sighed, not saying anything more.
After a simple meal together, they decided not to take up any more of each other's time, considering they both had things to do.
"The Han Family might target you soon, so you need to be careful," Su Xiyang warned. "Don't just laugh everything off. Pay attention to your surroundings. Safety first."
This guy did as he pleased, never considering the consequences when he was out and about. And Han Long was an insidious and cunning man who would stop at nothing. Su Xiyang worried he might try to attack Shen Fanyun from the shadows. To achieve his goals, Han Long would resort to any dirty, underhanded trick. The man had a mixed reputation in Hangcheng City and was definitely not someone to be trifled with. It was hard to say whether Shen Fanyun and Han Long being at odds was a good or a bad thing.
"Don't let what I'm saying go in one ear and out the other. Do you understand me?" Su Xiyang urged again.
From Su Xiyang's perspective, there was nothing wrong with being a little more cautious when out and about.
"Well now, you've really grown up. You're even starting to worry about me," Shen Fanyun teased with a playful grin. "It warms my heart. My spoiling you wasn't in vain after all."
Su Xiyang's pretty face flushed red. "Oh, screw you."
Shen Fanyun was speechless.
A girl like her shouldn't be swearing so casually. What had gotten into her lately? Her cursing had become more and more frequent. A refined young lady should be gentle and soft-spoken; vulgarities had no place coming from Su Xiyang's mouth.
"Keep that up and I'll spank you," Shen Fanyun threatened, putting on a serious face.
"Oh yeah? I'll be waiting. It has a nice bounce to it, you know," Su Xiyang continued to tease, then quickly turned around, swaying her graceful figure as she deliberately showed off in front of him.
Shen Fanyun sucked in a sharp breath, staring dumbfounded at Su Xiyang's retreating figure.
She's a natural-born femme fatale.
In fact, Su Xiyang's concerns were not without reason. Han Long was indeed making moves, and they were only going to get bigger.
But Shen Fanyun hadn't expected that the head of the Han Conglomerate—a man who was always elusive and incredibly busy—would take the trouble to make a personal visit.
He had originally planned to have a reunion dinner with his family today, but as he approached the entrance to his residential complex, he saw a Rolls-Royce that had been parked there for quite some time. If his memory served him right, it was Han Long's car.
"A rare visitor," Shen Fanyun said, his hands in his pockets, approaching the Rolls-Royce with a lazy, swaggering walk.
Han Long was reading the newspaper. After hearing his subordinate's report, he immediately pushed the door open and stepped out. The middle-aged man wore a fine suit, his hair combed meticulously. You could tell how powerful a person's aura was with just a single glance. He hadn't changed much over the years.
"It wasn't easy getting a chance to see you," Han Long said with a smile that didn't reach his eyes.
Shen Fanyun replied, "To have Mr. Han himself waiting for me… I'm truly flattered. This kind of treatment must be a first in Hangcheng City. I feel so special."
Although he had dealt with Shen Fanyun once before—and the scoundrel had kicked Han Feng right under his nose—this was the first time Han Long was truly taking a serious, careful look at the young man. Years ago, Shen Fanyun had been a skinny, easily manipulated student. Less than a decade had passed, and his growth had been nothing short of astonishing.
If only I'd been more ruthless back then, would I even have this trouble now? Truly, indecision only invites more trouble.
"Whatever your demands are, just name them. I'll satisfy them," Han Long said tentatively.
This opening caught Shen Fanyun slightly off guard.
Han Long was willing to negotiate amicably? Isn't he supposed to be an autocrat who wields absolute power? This is completely out of character for the Han Long I remember.
"I have no interest in messing around with you. For me, if I can solve a problem in the simplest way possible, there's no need to waste my energy."
His real intention was still to solve the problem with money. And for Han Long, money was the thing he cared about least these days.
"Give me a number. Consider it compensation for all these years, plus damages for emotional distress," Han Long said arrogantly. He tugged at his tie, looking full of vigor.
"I'm not short on that stuff," Shen Fanyun smiled.
We're all major players here; who cares about that kind of thing? Compensation? Damages for emotional distress? Utter nonsense.
Han Long's eyes narrowed, a sharp glint flashing in his pupils. "Does that mean you intend to fight me to the bitter end? A mutually destructive battle?"
"What? Am I not qualified?" Shen Fanyun asked with a smile.
Han Long was speechless.
"You need to understand something. The fact that I would deign to negotiate with you personally is an honor. It's also your one and only chance to walk away from this cleanly."
"I hope you cherish it," Han Long reminded him.
Between the lines, he placed himself in a superior position. Though he called it a negotiation, he was actually pressuring Shen Fanyun to know his place and take the offer. This man, who had lorded over Hangcheng City for so long, still hadn't fully grasped his current situation.
People only learn to tuck their tails between their legs and behave once they've been thoroughly beaten into submission.
"Han Long, my greatest wish is to see you die," Shen Fanyun said, his tone halfway between joking and serious. "I want to see your dignity destroyed in front of countless dignitaries, right before you drop dead on the spot."
Han Long was speechless.
"But don't get nervous. I did say I'd send you on your way at a more appropriate time and place. So, I won't be making a move on you today."
Han Long was speechless.
