Chapter 1889: The Power Of A Magical Beast Corspe Puppet
Grey was more focused on the large Toad Puppet, a little apprehensive of how strong this Puppet might turn out to be. He was still inspecting it when he suddenly felt movement ahead, raising his head, he noticed that the Toad was staring at him.
“Huh?” He was taken aback when he noticed this. When he entered this place, he could swear the Toad was facing the other side.
‘How come it’s staring at me?’
He soon got the answer to his question as the Toad Puppet opened its mouth and its tongue shot out, aiming for Grey.
Grey reacted almost as soon as the Toad’s tongue left its mouth. He retreated, dodging the Toad’s tongue by a hair’s breadth. He tried to catch his breath, but he sensed the Toad attacking once again. This time, he knew that he was in danger. With a roar, he exploded out with a fierce attack, giving himself enough time to withdraw from the range of the Toad Puppet.
At the same time Grey was withdrawing, Sir Astarot and the others reacted, all launching an attack of their own in hopes to restrain the Toad Puppet.
All it took was for the others to take action and the Toad Puppet was immediately stopped. It was unable to make another move after being frozen.
Breathing heavily, Grey could not help but feel some sense of fear at the thought of what might have happened if he did not react fast. He could tell the Toad Puppet was very strong. Even with multiple Half-God Plane experts making a move, it did not end up destroyed.
“Are you alright?” Sir Astarot came to Grey’s side and asked, he was the one who brought Grey here, so he felt Grey’s safety was his responsibility. The fact that Grey almost died in his presence was a disgrace to him.
Grey nodded, although he was still scared by the encounter, he did not panic. This was not the first time he was facing the attack of someone a few stages stronger than himself.
“How come it suddenly became active?” The Snake Clan Leader asked with hostility in its voice. It was the one who used its body to constrict the Toad before it was finally stopped.
“We need to find Elder Pondwyn.” The Toad Clan Leader’s expression was dark. It was still looking for ways to make the other Clan Leaders believe it and the rest of the Toad Clan had nothing to do with the sheltering of the Necromancers, but it was getting harder to prove their innocence. Elder Pondwyn, who betrayed them, managed to escape just before they got to its place, and not only that, but he was also able to accurately release the Toad Puppet on Grey. The Toad Clan Leader knew that it needed to provide a good explanation.
All eyes were on the Toad Clan Leader except Grey’s. He has had multiple dealings with Necromancers and Gnomes, so he knew that for a Puppet to attack in such a discreet manner like the Toad Puppet, then the controller had to be within sight or at least close enough to be able to control the Puppet so it can do their will. Knowing this, Grey knew that whoever controlled the Puppet must be around this place.
Closing his eyes, he shut out the conversation going on around between the Magical Beasts’ Clan Leaders, focusing on finding the link between the Puppet and the one controlling it. It did not take too long for him to find the link, now all he had to do was follow the link from this end to the other end for him to locate the one controlling the Toad Puppet.
He told Sir Astarot about this, telling him to keep track of his movements. Sir Astarot was the only Clan Leader he trusted here. He did not know if the Toads were involved in this. There was a possibility one of the Toads with the Toad Clan Leader was the one who informed Elder Pondwyn of their coming. It took some convincing before Sir Astarot let him leave alone, after all, he was just ambushed by the Toad Puppet.
If the one controlling the Toad Puppet found him alone, they would definitely want to kill him. From the attempt a few minutes ago, it was clear that the perpetrator wanted Grey dead.
Sir Astarot was not the one with this presumption, Grey also felt like whoever the perpetrator was, they wanted him dead. Gnomes and Necromancers were his only enemies, although he has had altercations with others in the Aurora Continent, their current predicament did not give them the chance to sort out their issues.
Grey’s departure did not alert anyone in the cavern as the others wondered how the previous Toad Clan Leader was turned into a Puppet. According to common knowledge, the Gnomes and Necromancers only turn dead humans into Puppets. Seeing now that the enemies had already started trying with Magical Beasts scared them. Magical Beasts were naturally stronger than their human counterpart, once their feeling and consciousness were taken out, they were the ultimate killing machines. It would be almost impossible to defeat one due to their strong defense, the Toad Puppet is an example of how powerful these Beast’s Puppets were.
Outside the cavern.
Grey followed the link to about five hundred meters away from the place where the cavern was located. He was brought to a hundred meters wide swamp.
He did not rush to expose himself after getting here, rather, he waited by the side to see if anyone or anything would come out of the swamp. He could not sense the presence of anyone in the swamp, but the link brought him here which meant that whoever was controlling the Puppet should be in this swamp.
It took only a few minutes before he saw movements from the swamp. Bubbles appeared at the top of the swamp, and when he focused on that particular spot, he noticed a pair of eyes peeking out from the swamp.
