Chapter 113: Chapter 112: Fortunate Romance (Part 1)

Qu Chaozong leaned half his body out the window, the late autumn weather felt refreshingly cool as he basked in the sunset’s glow, feeling sleepy.

Last night he stayed up late drinking with clients, lying down only for the alarm to go off almost immediately, forcing him through two pieces of business at the company before getting a fright from a call by Shi Yang. Barely back from school, work tied him up again, keeping him busy till now.

Qu Chaozong lazily yawned, feeling he could fall asleep anywhere.

Zhang Xin tracked him down, first spotting the company on Qu Chaozong’s business card, the red plaque with white letters starkly stood out among the many blue signs.

She didn’t go inside; the conversation on the phone was clear, he’d wait in the car. She stood curiously at the entrance looking in. The small ground-floor shop had cramped desks with busy yet orderly people inside.

After a quick glance, Zhang Xin turned and headed across the street, instantly spotting the semi-new domestic car parked by the roadside and the man resting, arm under his chin, eyes closed at the window.

Qu Chaozong first heard the footsteps, then opened his eyes slowly, drowsy as he took in the black high heels below, the pale foot exposed and slightly dazzling in the sunset. His gaze climbed from the straight, long legs to the black dress and its aggressive V-cut, revealing semi-circular contours that made his pupils involuntarily contract.

He frowned at the beautiful woman watching him with a raised corner of her mouth, stunned for a full two seconds before reacting, quickly straightening up.

With a bang, his head collided with the window, the sudden pain momentarily dazed him, then cleared his mind.

Zhang Xin burst into laughter, looking at Qu Chaozong, asking, "Doesn’t it hurt?"

Qu Chaozong responded casually, "It’s alright, a bump wakes me up."

Zhang Xin laughed aloud, "You’re really amusing."

Qu Chaozong glanced at her, distracted by the bright rose-red on her lips, feeling somewhat uneasy as he diverted his gaze: "Sorry to trouble you, going out of your way."

After speaking, he casually scratched his head a couple of times, squinting comfortably, before realizing the action was inappropriate and quickly dropping his hand, looking up at Zhang Xin: "Um, Miss Zhang, just the money you owe me will do; I have something to do later..."

Zhang Xin interrupted him, "Going on a date?"

"No, just having dinner with my buddies." Qu Chaozong answered, his gaze returning to Zhang Xin’s face.

Zhang Xin’s pretty eyes watched him, with a look of unusual intent.

Qu Chaozong felt like prey in a hunter’s sights, the sensation sent a chill down his spine.

Zhang Xin asked, "Is it the brother of the young girl from today?"

Qu Chaozong looked at her but didn’t answer, instinctively reluctant to get closer.

Qu Chaozong politely smiled, "Um, Miss Zhang, the compensation money..."

Zhang Xin suddenly smiled, then turned and left.

Qu Chaozong hesitated, about to call out, but saw Zhang Xin circle his car and enter through the passenger side.

Fair legs stretched in first, followed by thighs wrapped in the dress, a slender waist exposed by the open coat, and a nearly bursting chest with each movement.

Zhang Xin settled down, turning to Qu Chaozong, noticing his gaze fixed on her chest. A teasing smile flashed in her eyes, she deliberately straightened her chest.

Qu Chaozong quickly looked away, awkwardly coughing, "Um, Miss Zhang, you..."

Zhang Xin watched him with a smile, "My name is Zhang Xin."

Qu Chaozong cleared his throat, "Ahem... um, Miss Zhang..."

Zhang Xin raised an eyebrow, "Zhang Xin."

Qu Chaozong compromised, "Um, Zhang Xin, all you have to do is give me the money."

Zhang Xin suddenly leaned closer to Qu Chaozong.

A faint scent wafted over, reflexively prompting Qu Chaozong to lean back.

Zhang Xin’s eyes deepened with amusement as she pressed the window button, the open glass slowly rising.

Qu Chaozong only then realized he had overreacted, straining his brain to manage the sudden situation, just as Zhang Xin spoke, "I took a taxi here; you’re going to eat, right? Mind giving me a lift?"

Qu Chaozong paused, "Um, the place I’m eating at might not be along your way."

Zhang Xin smiled lightly, "I accidentally hit your car this morning and feel really sorry. How about I treat you to dinner later?"

Qu Chaozong’s eyes widened, "Ah?"

Zhang Xin seriously said, "You are having dinner with your friends, right? Is that young girl coming too?"

Qu Chaozong: "Ah."

Zhang Xin: "Even better, my brother told me today, she was very helpful at the time, I’ll invite her too."

Qu Chaozong refused, "No need."

Zhang Xin gestured broadly, "It’s fine, we’re friends, you don’t have to be polite to me."

Qu Chaozong twitched his lips, staring at Zhang Xin.

Zhang Xin turned to him, her pretty eyes blinked as she slightly smiled, "What are you waiting for? Drive, I’m a bit hungry too."

After speaking, Zhang Xin turned and fastened her seatbelt.

Qu Chaozong looked at Zhang Xin, feeling a headache.

Zhao Meimei sat next to Shi Yang in the waiting area outside the buffet restaurant, chatting about the day’s events.

Shi Yang listened to the end, he laughed, reaching out to tousle her hair, "Really becoming friends with her now?"

Zhao Meimei’s voice was soft, "Brother, you don’t know, Wang Jiayue was really pitiful. At that time, her gaze resembled, um, Xu Xu’s Dodo — that puppy of his. One look and I couldn’t take it."

Shi Yang: "People like that usually lack affection, since you’re becoming good friends, make sure to treat her well, without suddenly ignoring her halfway."

Zhao Meimei nodded vigorously, "I’ll definitely treat her well."

Shi Yang, unable to resist, pinched her cute cheek, his gaze falling on her slightly pouting lips, feeling his fingers unintentionally brushing her soft lips slightly, darkening his eyes.

Ding-dong!

The elevator arrival tone snapped Shi Yang from his losing control, he quickly withdrew his hand, looking over as the elevator doors slowly opened, and Qu Chaozong came out first. Upon seeing him, he immediately showed a desperate look.
