Chapter 112: Chapter 111: Who Knows Who’s Taking Advantage

In the evening after school, Zhao Meimei clutched her backpack and was the first to dash out of the classroom.

Xu Xu watched her silhouette disappear at the doorway before leisurely beginning to pack up his things, organizing his pencil case and choosing the textbooks he needed to take home.

Wang Jiayue moved closer, her face adorned with a slightly ingratiating yet somewhat anxious expression, and asked, "Xu Xu, why didn’t Meimei wait for us?"

Xu Xu looked up at her.

Wang Jiayue was very delicate and had exceptionally fair skin, her hair was thick and black, her eyes were big, and when she looked at people, her gaze was clear yet faintly evasive—she had a naturally timid disposition.

Xu Xu saw Wang Jiayue and felt like he was looking at himself in elementary school. Back then, in Zhao Meimei’s eyes, did he also look like this?

He recalled what Zhao Meimei had said, that Wang Jiayue reminded her of Dodo. In her heart, was he merely a pitiable pet who relied on her?

Wang Jiayue called softly, "Xu Xu?"

Xu Xu looked up at her, his beautiful brows and eyes dark as ink, making it impossible to discern any emotions within them, and he said in a faint voice, "Meimei’s brother is picking her up tonight. I’ll walk you to the bus stop."

Wang Jiayue nodded.

As they walked, Xu Xu went in front while Wang Jiayue silently followed behind.

After taking two steps forward, Xu Xu suddenly stopped and turned around to look at Wang Jiayue, who had her head lowered.

Wang Jiayue almost bumped into him and looked up in panic, only to hear Xu Xu say, "From now on, walk by my side. We’re friends, and I’ll treat you as an equal."

As Xu Xu finished speaking, the image of the Zhao Meimei from back then appeared in his mind, her thin eyelids lowered and her gaze peering sideways through the corners of her eyes, exuding an air of cool style, saying the same words.

Xu Xu lowered his gaze at Wang Jiayue’s surprised expression: "Let’s go."

Xu Xu walked steadily and heavily, with Wang Jiayue obediently at his side, occasionally glancing sideways to check the distance between their steps, striving to walk alongside him.

Xu Xu walked quietly, without saying a word along the way.

Zhao Meimei flew out of the school, her school uniform billowing in the wind, feeling like a bird in flight, and dove headfirst into the arms of Brother Yangyang, who was waiting at the school gate, looking travel-worn yet still dashing.

Shi Yang leaned his back against the car door, holding Zhao Meimei as he let out a low grunt from the impact, dissipating some of the pent-up frustration in his heart.

Zhao Meimei raised her head.

The collar of Shi Yang’s shirt was unbuttoned by three, revealing a small area of his chest and collarbone. He slightly lowered his head, his chin covering the curve of his neck, and his lowered brows and eyes relaxed with dense, long eyelashes, casting a small shadow below his eyes.

Zhao Meimei was thrilled beyond measure: "Brother, did you come to pick me up as soon as you arrived?"

Shi Yang squinted, releasing his grip: "Yeah, come on, get in the car, I’ll take you out for some buffet tonight."

"Seafood?" Zhao Meimei’s eyes lit up.

Shi Yang chuckled: "Yeah, your Brother Chao wants to crack some crab claws."

The car hit the road, and Shi Yang motioned to Zhao Meimei: "Call Brother Chaozi and ask where he is."

Zhao Meimei agreed and suddenly reached towards Shi Yang’s crotch without warning.

Shi Yang almost stomped on the brake, glancing sideways, stifling his surprise. Zhao Meimei’s hand slid into his pocket, skillfully fishing out the phone.

Shi Yang’s lips twitched, reminding, "The phone’s on the dashboard."

Zhao Meimei turned her head, retrieved her hand, reached for the phone, and quietly dialed the number.

Shi Yang, watching Zhao Meimei out of the corner of his eye, saw only her slender body and slightly protruding chest through the oversized school uniform, not very noticeable, two small bulges like unrisen steamed buns, along with her slim waist, slightly curving the fabric of the uniform, and her long legs sprawling unceremoniously, knees slightly bent.

Shi Yang retracted his gaze, silently licking his dry lips.

When Zhao Meimei dialed, the line was busy on the first try, and still busy on the second. She casually asked, "Brother, Chao Bro’s line is busy."

Shi Yang’s voice was slightly hoarse: "Maybe he’s talking to a client. Try again later."

Zhao Meimei held the phone, skillfully navigating it while asking, "Brother, can I play with your phone for a bit?"

Shi Yang glanced at her, wanting to laugh, but held back.

Zhao Meimei quickly scanned the call history, mostly clients and a few unknown numbers, none with long call durations.

Feeling reassured, Zhao Meimei was about to check the messages when a call came in from Qu Chaozong.

Zhao Meimei hurriedly answered, asking, "Brother Chao, who were you talking to? I called you twice but couldn’t get through."

Qu Chaozong, eyes fixed on the windshield, sighed silently: "I wasn’t calling anyone, someone was calling me. Where are you guys?"

Zhao Meimei: "We just left my school not too long ago."

Qu Chaozong responded quietly, "I might be a bit late. You and your brother wait for me for a bit."

Zhao Meimei was taken aback: "Why?"

Qu Chaozong gave a wry smile: "Someone in debt insists on coming over to repay money."

"In debt?" Zhao Meimei looked blankly at Brother Yangyang.

Shi Yang stretched his arm to take the phone: "Hey? Chaozi, what’s going on?"

Qu Chaozong took a deep breath: "I think someone’s got their eye on me."

Shi Yang raised an eyebrow: "Male or female?"

Qu Chaozong: "Female."

Shi Yang chuckled: "What does she look like?"

Qu Chaozong: "...Pretty."

Shi Yang laughed: "Then let her keep watching. Just look at you, perpetually single, someone willing to be interested in you... Uhh..." He glanced at Zhao Meimei beside him and amended, "I mean, someone willing to fancy you, that’s good news!"

Qu Chaozong rubbed his chin: "That’s true, but I feel like if I let her watch me, it’s hard to tell who’s taking advantage of whom."

"Geez!" Shi Yang burst into laughter: "That intense?"

Qu Chaozong grunted: "Yeah, alright, enough said, I might be late. Don’t you dare go in without me! Wait for me at the door!"

Shi Yang laughed and hung up the phone.

Zhao Meimei curiously asked, "Brother, has someone got their eye on Chao Bro?"

Shi Yang nodded.

Zhao Meimei immediately let out a long breath: "Good, good."

Shi Yang glanced at her, seeing a relieved expression on her face.

Shi Yang: "What’s so good?"

Zhao Meimei chuckled: "Good that it’s Chao Bro she’s interested in."

Shi Yang’s lips curled upward: "Are you that afraid someone’s interested in me?"

Zhao Meimei bit her lip and, after a while, murmured softly, "Yeah."
