Chapter 315: Chapter 315: Jay Sterling’s Vow Fulfilled

Natalie Vaughn was startled by the sight of blood covering half of her body.

"Why haven’t you tended to your wounds?"

The club manager shook his head.

"It’s Jay Sterling’s blood."

The injuries to Vaughn were minor, just a few scrapes, but it was a different story for Jay...

After hearing this from the manager, Natalie’s lips pursed into a straight line. She looked up at Zane Thorne and saw the man’s face was also very grim.

Vaughn’s whole demeanor was off, and Natalie sat down next to him, grabbing the hand that was tightly pinching his own flesh.

It was only when she touched him that she realized that without doing so, Vaughn’s whole hand would be shaking.

The club manager explained from the side.

Apparently, several racers from Danny’s Club insisted on challenging Jay and Vaughn after running into them. The club had rules prohibiting private races with racers from other clubs.

Jay and Vaughn didn’t want to get entangled with those people and turned to leave, but those people started bringing up the past.

The thing that Vaughn and Jay couldn’t stand was Zane being slandered. Those people, somehow having heard some rumors, twisted the story of Zane being tested positive for stimulants back then, claiming it was due to taking drugs that he lost the qualification to compete.

Jay and Vaughn’s emotions were instantly stirred up.

They didn’t agree to race, and instead, chose to settle the grudges with their fists. Though Jay and Vaughn looked lean, they were both trained by Zane, and their physical abilities weren’t lacking, so even though the opposing side had more people, they couldn’t beat the two of them.

When those people couldn’t win with fists and feet, they began to use more sinister methods. One of them got into a car and drove straight towards Jay and Vaughn.

At that time, Vaughn was dealing with other people and didn’t notice, but Jay ran over in time to push Vaughn aside.

But because of that, he sustained serious injuries himself.

Hearing this, Natalie’s brows furrowed deeply; she could now understand Vaughn’s reaction.

She didn’t know what to say.

And it seemed like nothing she said would help.

Words were useless.

The situation was similar to when Zane had an accident in a match against Gideon Sheffield back then.

Outside the operating room, there seemed to be an inherent tension in the air, and Natalie could only firmly grasp Vaughn’s arm to give him strength.

"Jay will be alright."

He would surely be alright.

Zane hadn’t smoked in a long time, but during the time waiting for Jay’s surgery, he smoked an entire pack.

When Natalie found him on the balcony, he was surrounded by the smell of smoke.

No matter what the outcome of this surgery, it wouldn’t be what everyone hoped for.

Lives can be saved, but what happens after that? Jay is not yet nineteen, and his professional career has just begun.

With so much blood lost, it’s unlikely the body wouldn’t be harmed.

And a racer needs exceptionally high physical fitness; even small injuries on the hands or legs could potentially impact the whole career.

They could only pray for the luckiest outcome.

The worst-case scenario would be that this surgery ruins two young men’s professional careers and dreams.

Natalie stood next to Zane, unable to do anything but stay by his side.

People say Zane is a strict boss, an impartial coach during training. But Natalie knows Zane holds this group of youngsters closest to his heart.

He cares about their dreams, training conditions, and achievements, doing everything he can to help these kids reach the furthest place.

But now, one is still lying in the operating room, life uncertain, while the other outside it is in a perilous mental state.

Natalie took Zane’s hand.

"Let’s go down, the surgery should be over soon."

Zane looked down at Natalie, and only then did she notice how bloodshot his eyes were, with an intense heaviness between his brows.

Natalie’s heart ached.

Zane was in deep pain, and so was she.

Jay was her favorite little brother in the club; he was lively, mischievous, somewhat similar to Theodore Langdon. Despite his young age, he still heeded their guidance.

A very smart and charming young boy.

She loved the way he called her Nina.

So vibrant and sincere.

As they returned to the operating room, they happened to see the surgery light turn color.

The surgery was over.

Vaughn sprang up from the chair, staring fiercely at the doctor, as if ready to devour him.

Natalie initiated the question.

"Doctor, how did the surgery go?"

The doctor removed his mask.

"Fortunately, the patient adopted a defensive posture when the car hit, mitigating some impact; there are minor fractures in the arm and calf, and slight internal bleeding. With proper rest, there shouldn’t be any major issues."

Hearing this, Zane’s tense expression finally relaxed a little. Vaughn’s body trembled slightly, and the club manager let out a long breath.

Only Natalie stayed calm and asked, "Doctor, if he recuperates well, will this affect his future career?"

"No, the patient is very young and physically robust. With proper care, there will be no lasting repercussions."

This was surely the most cheerful news in the past few hours.

Upon hearing this, Zane immediately turned to leave, a fierce aura in his wake. Natalie knew he was off to avenge Jay; she didn’t object, though she was worried about him doing something too rash with competitions approaching soon.

She opened her mouth to speak, only to see Vaughn swiftly follow after him.

Natalie: ...

Too lazy to stop them.

She looked at the club manager.

"Go after them and keep an eye on both; don’t go too far, most importantly, don’t let the media catch wind of it. Leave this side to me."

"Yes, ma’am."

Right after surgery, Jay remained unconscious, and Natalie followed into the hospital room. Seeing the boy lying there devoid of blood color, she felt a pang of sympathy.

Young boys tend to overthink, and she worried Jay wouldn’t be able to accept things when he woke up.

Recovery would take a significant amount of time, especially since Jay had been so absorbed in training lately, all to enhance his skills.

Thinking of this, Natalie sighed.

Both Jay and Vaughn needed proper psychological counseling.

Young indeed, as Jay woke up within half an hour.

He blinked, staring at the pristine ceiling, and moved his hand.

"Well, I’m not dead yet."

"..."

Natalie immediately rose to inquire about his condition.

"How do you feel?"

Jay looked at Natalie for a long time before speaking.

"Nina, you’re back."

Natalie nodded.

"How do you feel now?"

Jay assessed himself for a moment, then seriously asked Natalie.

"It hurts, Nina, am I a cripple now?"
