Chapter 257: Chapter 257: Zane Thorne Showing Off His Wife

A group of people revved their engines in the preparation area, the roaring sound in the night like a giant beast awakening after years of slumber.

Even though it was said to be Quentin Donovan versus Shannon Rhodes, Natalie Vaughn couldn’t help but wonder just how much she lagged behind Shannon Rhodes in terms of skill.

She was quite competitive—once she started learning something, she wouldn’t be satisfied until she achieved something noteworthy. Of course, she wouldn’t overestimate her abilities by comparing herself to a professional racer.

As long as the gap wasn’t too wide, that was enough.

Zane Thorne picked up the remote and zoomed in on the footage focusing on Natalie Vaughn. Seeing the little sidelong glance she gave Shannon Rhodes before pulling down her goggles, he cracked a smile.

Her little temper was truly endearing, and even the way she got jealous was quite unique. Zane rubbed his chin, never expecting that Natalie would remember his past disbelief in her driving skills for so long.

Standing beside him, Theo was witnessing this side of Zane for the first time. Back in high school, Theo idolized the confident and spirited Zane, worked hard to get into college and convinced his parents with his grades. He painstakingly entered the racing circle, only to be met with Zane’s retirement announcement before he could even showcase his skills to him.

Since then, he never had another chance to meet Zane. Fate played a trick when, just when he signed with a club, rumors spread about Zane starting a club. Now, finally, his contract was nearing its end.

What did it feel like to see his idol up close? Probably a mix of wanting to approach but unable to move, and fumbling speechlessly.

Zane broke the silence.

"Why are you just standing there?"

Zane’s gaze remained on the screen, yet Theo’s nervousness was palpable even without looking. Zane couldn’t comprehend why he seemed so intimidating or why someone in racing would be so timid.

Theo finally moved, but he still didn’t dare to come too close and sat down on another sofa.

Zane crossed his right leg over his left, glanced at Theo, and chuckled.

Why was he sitting like a schoolchild?

"Am I that scary?"

"N...no..."

"Didn’t you have a lot of guts when we were racing together before?"

"I..."

"Tsk, I’m not going to eat you, what are you afraid of?"

Sitting awkwardly, Theo felt even more anxious after hearing Zane’s words.

"I..."

Theo rubbed his face with his hand, his face flush with frustration, and finally mustered the courage to say what he’d been holding back for years.

"God Thorne, you’ve always been my idol. I started racing because of you, and... I’ve always looked up to you as my role model."

Zane gave Theo another once-over, not so much surprised, but feeling that Theo was still too timid, blushing like a peach when talking to him.

"From where would you see that?" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

After speaking, Zane returned his focus to the screen. The equipment needed an upgrade; several areas didn’t capture Natalie Vaughn’s presence.

Theo wasn’t timid, just easily flustered in front of Zane. Having finally spoken his piece, he sighed in relief.

He then reflected on Zane’s previous words.

Was he suggesting watching together?

Nothing could compare to the allure when God Thorne focused on something, yet his attention was all on his wife on the screen.

Theo blinked. If he complimented God Thorne’s wife, could he chat more with Zane?

Thinking this, Theo stood up and chose a spot where he could see the screen but was still relatively far from Zane.

He had just sat down when Natalie Vaughn navigated a corner—the only one with a gentle slope and large curve. Quentin had told Natalie that, given her current abilities, it was the only corner where she could employ Zane’s signature leaning technique.

Zane’s smile faded when he saw Natalie executing the technique; once lazily leaning back, he now sat upright.

He knew his leaning method too well—it was tough on the leg and back, and a slight mistake would mean falling with little time to react, making it hard to assume a protective stance.

Zane’s expression turned serious, and Theo also straightened. He was surprised Natalie would use Zane’s technique—recalling a night when she wanted to race them fiercely.

Theo paused, starting to understand why Zane liked Natalie, reflecting if he needed to act a bit more daring to earn Zane’s admiration.

Zane’s brow remained furrowed until Natalie completed the curve. Seeing her signal accurately to the camera after adjusting her position, veins stood out on his temples.

What reckless behavior!

How long had she been learning overall? Let alone using his leaning technique, she dared to employ it while going up a mountain at night—downright reckless. Riding so fast in poor lighting while still finding the time to gesture.

Who taught her to do this?

Zane was uneasy, pondering over the rashness of the girl on the screen whom he fondly regarded yet worried about greatly.

He felt touched, but the concern was greater.

It was still irresponsible of Natalie.

Perhaps he cared too much, hence the excessive worrying. While he never considered the safety when doing it himself, he was terrified when Natalie did it.

She picked up all his risky maneuvers, and that gesture was one he used early in his career.

Zane closed his eyes tightly, contemplating what to say to Natalie once she came down. He couldn’t be harsh; it would upset the girl, yet good advice was necessary since Natalie was playing with fire.

Theo, without any romantic experiences, couldn’t grasp Zane’s feelings. He clumsily offered a remark.

"She... she’s imitating well."

Especially that spirit she carried, so alike.

Hearing this, Zane tempered his emotions.

"She is smart and talented."

His voice brimming with pride, even amidst complex emotions, Zane couldn’t help but boast about having such a remarkable wife.

Zane realized the girl cherished her dignity, deciding that compliments would suffice for now; the necessary advice could be given once they got home.

Thus, Zane, more relaxed, resumed talking to Theo.

"She’s only been learning for less than three months and can ride like this. Wouldn’t you say she’s smart?"

Theo didn’t quite understand Zane’s sudden change, didn’t get why the reticent person now immersed in conversation with him, nor did he grasp that this was an adult man’s way of dealing with a wife.

All Theo knew was that flattery sufficed.

"Yeah, very smart!"
