Addiction to Temptation: His Mischievous Sweetheart Captivates Him-Chapter 256: Quarreling Lovers
When Zane Thorne let go, Natalie Vaughn’s lips were already swollen. The man still had his head down, rubbing his nose against Natalie Vaughn’s cheek.
"Very handsome, you rode really well, good girl, you’re awesome."
Finally receiving Zane Thorne’s praise for her biking, Natalie Vaughn felt her mood could rival the stars and moon in the sky. She arrogantly wrapped her arms around Zane Thorne’s neck, leaned down, and whispered in his ear.
"I can do much more than that." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Even though it was dark, being so close, Natalie Vaughn still noticed the man’s ears turning red. Natalie playfully bit his earlobe.
Zane Thorne’s expression suddenly darkened, he grabbed Natalie Vaughn by the waist with both hands, just about to kiss her, but Natalie dodged with a smile, pressing her palms against his shoulders.
"How long do you want them to watch?"
Then, like a little fairy who finished eating and didn’t acknowledge the person who treated her, Natalie Vaughn left Zane Thorne aside, walking gracefully towards the back.
"Does anyone want to race with me? Whoever reaches the mountain peak first gets a motorcycle of their choice, then we’ll choose blind box gifts in order."
If the last time Natalie went to GN she felt beautiful yet hard to approach, this time Natalie was explosively beautiful and approachable.
"Ma’am, even without prizes, we’re willing to race with you!"
Natalie Vaughn saw everyone’s enthusiasm and felt happy herself, raising an eyebrow at Zane Thorne, seemingly flaunting how easily she won over his employees’ love.
"However, professional racers are disqualified, like your boss can’t race."
"Don’t worry Ma’am, we don’t have any professional racers here."
Quentin Donovan seemed somewhat interested in the prizes.
"Can I participate?"
Natalie Vaughn smiled sweetly at him, wagging her finger.
"No, you’re not from GN."
Quentin Donovan: ...Alright, this little Natalie Vaughn is kinda like a backstabber.
This mountain was a regular spot for motorcycle enthusiasts, and eventually received formal management, with road signs and lamps along every stretch, making night riding fairly safe.
Upon reaching the mountain’s base, they unexpectedly encountered someone.
Natalie Vaughn instinctively glanced at Quentin Donovan when she saw Shannon Rhodes. Originally nonchalant, he took the cigarette out of his mouth and lowered his head to fiddle with his phone, his erratic scrolling revealing his inner unease.
Shannon Rhodes looked somewhat surprised, first glancing at Zane Thorne, then walking towards Natalie Vaughn.
"You all came here to have fun too? Is this...a company annual meeting?"
Shannon Rhodes was a racer, having participated in numerous competitions and had many dealings with GN, many people knew her.
"Ms. Rhodes, why are you here today?"
"Just here to have fun with friends."
It was then that Natalie Vaughn noticed a few people beside Shannon Rhodes, some unfamiliar, but one face seemed very familiar.
Hayden.
Why was Hayden so close to Shannon Rhodes?
Before Natalie could ponder, she saw the boy’s eyes light up when he saw Zane Thorne.
Ah, it turns out the person known as the second Zane Thorne idolizes Zane Thorne.
Natalie Vaughn quite liked Shannon Rhodes’ personality.
"We’re planning a race, care to join?"
Shannon Rhodes raised an eyebrow, looking at Natalie Vaughn’s getup.
"Did you ride this time?"
Natalie Vaughn recalled the previous event in Veridia, chuckling as she shook her head.
"I’m definitely leaving him out today."
Shannon Rhodes came to race, so if there’s a gathering, joining in is fine too.
The silent Hayden, seeing Zane Thorne seated before a screen, spoke up.
"Ms. Rhodes, I’m not feeling well, I’ll wait here for you."
Shannon Rhodes knew Hayden’s little ploys, smiling as she glanced over.
"Your club contract’s ending soon, isn’t it?"
Hayden blushed instantly, clutching his shirt hem tightly, his gaze evasive, not daring to look at Zane Thorne. Afraid of misunderstandings, yet also afraid Zane Thorne wouldn’t react at all.
Natalie Vaughn knew Zane Thorne admired this racer, and couldn’t help saying a word in support.
"Such a talented racer, any club would want him, right?"
Shannon Rhodes echoed.
"Yeah, it’s been driving him crazy lately, so he asked me out for some fun."
Hayden didn’t know what to do anymore, Zane Thorne, avoiding any misunderstandings, simply didn’t join their chat.
Finally, Quentin Donovan put his phone down and approached, not looking at Shannon Rhodes, making a snide comment instead.
"Staying up late to keep your little brother company, only you, Miss Rhodes."
Shannon Rhodes, used to Quentin Donovan’s sharp tongue, retorted with a smile.
"Unlike President Donovan who dances through the night with his little sister."
Natalie Vaughn looked at Shannon Rhodes, then Quentin Donovan, finding it increasingly amusing. Why did she feel Quentin Donovan hadn’t told the whole story when speaking of past events? For instance, he never mentioned how they interacted...
Ahem, seems like frenemies.
Quentin Donovan, caught off guard by Shannon Rhodes’ remark, couldn’t quickly find a fitting retort.
Natalie’s curiosity was too blatant, caught by Quentin Donovan, he directly tapped her on the head.
"Why are you standing there looking all silly?"
Natalie clicked her tongue, not arguing back, deciding to save him some face in front of Shannon Rhodes.
"Shall we go? If it gets any later, the breeze will pick up."
Natalie Vaughn and Shannon Rhodes’ relationship was still somewhat awkward. Although Shannon Rhodes had no lingering feelings for Zane Thorne, one being the wife and the other the nominal ex-girlfriend left an unclear note for interaction.
But, it seemed unnecessary to clarify things.
Despite having exchanged a few words, neither had used the other’s name yet.
As they both reached the starting area, Natalie suddenly turned and called out to Quentin Donovan.
"Didn’t you say you wanted a race with me? Why are you still standing there?"
Despite having just refused Quentin Donovan’s request to join the race, others remained clueless, but Quentin Donovan quickly responded, stepping over.
"If you’re really letting me race, I’ll take first place."
Natalie rolled her eyes.
"What arrogance in front of professional racers?"
With that, she looked at Shannon Rhodes.
"Show him what you’ve got."
Shannon Rhodes also felt Quentin Donovan was overestimating himself. As she put on her gloves, she inquired.
"Not seen you in a while, still just as cocky."
Quentin Donovan, grinning, leaned over Shannon Rhodes’ shoulder to grab a pair of gloves.
"The race hasn’t started yet, the result is still unknown."
Shannon Rhodes raised her eyebrows with a smile, saying nothing more.
When Shannon Rhodes wasn’t paying attention, Quentin Donovan shot a grateful glance at Natalie Vaughn.
Natalie Vaughn smiled, looking over to where Zane Thorne was seated, their gazes meeting precisely, she gestured to the big screen. The man nodded with a smile. Although no words were spoken, the atmosphere between them seemed to erect a barrier from their surroundings.
Hayden stood quietly by, remembering that survival game with Zane Thorne at ROX.
