Chapter 920: Chapter 920: Disappointed Expectations

The car had been turned off, and the windows shut tightly. Zhang Lingying looked at it for a while, unable to tell if there was someone inside.

This wasn’t a parking lot; logically, cars shouldn’t be parked overnight here. She wondered whose car it was.

Zhang Lingying stared at it for a little longer, recalling that Lu Jing seemed to have a similar car. She immediately realized she was thinking about Lu Jing again, raised her hand to knock herself on the head, trying to stop entertaining such thoughts, and turned around to enter the living room.

She had slept for a few hours and took a shower, yet ironically, she didn’t feel sleepy at all. So she began tidying up the things on the coffee table, sorting out the clothes, shoes, and bags Leng Jian had bought for her, cutting off the price tags one by one.

By the time she finished tidying, the clothes in the washing machine were also done.

Zhang Lingying returned to the balcony to hang the clothes, reminding herself not to think about Lu Jing again, but her eyes still involuntarily drifted to look downstairs.

Seeing the black car still parked in the same spot, for so long, and not a single person had been seen.

Her eyes dimmed a little. She quickened her pace of hanging the clothes, finished hanging them, turned off the balcony light, and went into the bedroom.

Lying in bed, Zhang Lingying tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.

She knew something was off, but she attributed it merely to a sense of responsibility.

After all, Lu Jing was her patient. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

She had once promised him that she would stay with him until he recovered.

But Lu Jing wasn’t fully recovered when she sent him back to the hospital to avoid any misunderstanding.

Even when Zhang Lingying threw out garbage and saw a stray kitten, she would feel heartache for a while. Now, after driving Lu Jing, a living person, away, she inexplicably worried that Lu Jing’s condition might worsen.

Thinking about it... she fell into insomnia.

She didn’t fall asleep until daylight.

The next day at the lab, Leng Jian saw her dark circles, rivaling a panda’s, and was startled, almost taking her to the hospital for a check-up.

Zhang Lingying repeatedly assured him that she was fine, barely avoiding the ordeal.

But despite saying she was fine, she continued to suffer from insomnia at night.

After several days, Zhang Lingying became increasingly lethargic. Fortunately, something new seemed to have been discovered at Ji Weitian’s side, diverting Leng Jian’s attention, allowing Zhang Lingying to avoid being forcibly taken to the hospital.

And the black car downstairs, day after day, parked at the same place.

The windows were tightly shut, making it seem as though no one was inside the car.

Yet, this wasn’t a parking lot, so why was someone parking here every day?

Driven by curiosity, Zhang Lingying couldn’t sleep that night and quietly sneaked downstairs, circling the car to inspect it, finding indeed that there was no one inside, just an empty vehicle.

It was likely that someone living in this apartment complex violated the rules, parking the car by the roadside for convenience.

Having figured it out, Zhang Lingying walked back with slight embarrassment.

Seeing the car empty, she couldn’t articulate her feelings. She felt a bit unsettled, as if expecting something, yet finding those expectations unmet.

But what exactly was she expecting? Even she couldn’t say.

Her emotions were complex, and she felt a bit confused.

Lost in thought, as she walked past the trash bin, she heard a soft kitten’s meow from the nearby greenery.

Startled, she turned to look towards the sound and saw a familiar piece of fabric.

It was the pillowcase she had thrown away a few days ago.

It had been dragged into the greenery by the cat.

And next, a familiar little kitten crawled out from underneath the fabric, meowed at Zhang Lingying as if it remembered her.
