Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 97: Morning Whispers
The first thing Delphinia noticed when she woke up was that it was already morning. She rubbed her eyes, her head still foggy, and reached out beside her without thinking. Her fingers grazed cool sheets instead of the warmth she had expected.
Her brows furrowed slightly, and she opened her eyes fully, glancing to the side. The bed was empty.
A soft sigh escaped her lips as she let her head sink back into the pillow. Her hand moved to clutch the blanket closer around her, the fabric brushing against her bare skin. Bare.
Her cheeks flushed instantly, heat crawling up her neck as she realized she wasn’t exactly dressed. Only the blanket shielded her from the morning air. Memories from the night before came rushing back, vivid and overwhelming.
The thought of them crossing that line warmed her inside, even as it made her wince a little.
"Consummate the relationship," she muttered under her breath, rolling her eyes at her own awkward phrasing. "Who even says that?"
Her lips twitched into a shy smile despite herself as snippets of the night danced in her mind—Evander’s touch, his whispered words, the way he looked at her as if she was his entire world.
A knock on the door snapped her out of her thoughts, and she quickly pulled the blanket tighter around herself. "Come in?" she called hesitantly, her voice still hoarse from sleep.
The door creaked open, and there he was—Evander, with a tray balanced expertly in his hands. He was already dressed, his hair slightly damp as if he’d just showered, and the sight of him made her heart flutter.
"Good morning, sleepyhead."
She groaned, burying her face in the pillow. "Don’t call me that."
He chuckled, the sound deep and warm, as he set the tray on the bedside table. "You’re cute when you’re embarrassed, you know."
"I’m not embarrassed," she mumbled, though her pink cheeks said otherwise.
"Sure you’re not," he replied, sitting on the edge of the bed. His gaze softened as it settled on her, taking in the way she clutched the blanket like it was her lifeline.
"What’s this?" she asked, nodding toward the tray.
"Breakfast in bed," he said with a grin. "Figured you might need some extra energy after last night."
Her eyes widened, and she smacked his arm lightly. "Evander!"
He laughed, catching her wrist easily and pressing a kiss to her palm. "What? It’s true."
She let out a frustrated sigh, her cheeks still on fire. "You’re seriously the most annoying person ever."
"But you love me," he countered smoothly, setting her hand down but not letting go. "How are you feeling?"
"I’m fine," she said, her voice softening. She glanced at him, her eyes searching his face. "Better than fine, actually."
His smile turned gentle, and he leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. "Good. That’s all I wanted to hear."
They stayed in peaceful quiet, Delphinia moving slightly to sit up, making the blanket rustle. Evander handed her a plate of pancakes topped with fresh berries and whipped cream, and she couldn’t help but smile at the sight.
"You did all this?"
"Don’t sound so surprised," he said, pretending to be insulted. "I’m more than capable in the kitchen, you know."
She giggled, cutting into the pancake. "Well, consider me impressed."
They ate, trading laughs and sneaky looks, and for once, Delphinia felt free of her usual worries.
"So," Evander began. "about last night..."
She nearly choked on her bite of pancake, coughing as she grabbed for her glass of orange juice. He patted her back, looking far too amused for her liking.
"Are you trying to kill me?" she asked, her voice slightly strained.
"Not at all," he said innocently. "I was just going to say that you were—"
"Don’t you dare," she interrupted, pointing her fork at him.
He held up his hands in mock defeat, his smile growing. "Alright, alright. I’ll behave."
"Thank you."
"But for the record," he added, leaning closer, "you were amazing."
Her face turned scarlet, and she buried it in her hands. "Evander, stop!"
He laughed, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Okay, okay. I’ll stop. For now."
She peeked at him through her fingers, her lips curving into a reluctant smile. "You’re the worst."
"And yet, you’re stuck with me," he said, winking.
They finished their breakfast, and Evander took the tray back to the kitchen while Delphinia finally got out of bed. Pulling the blanket around her like a cloak, she wandered to the window, staring at the estate outside.
Evander came back to see her at the window, sunlight making her look almost ethereal. He paused for a moment, simply watching her, his heart swelling with an emotion he couldn’t quite put into words.
"What are you staring at now?" she asked, turning to face him.
"You," he said simply.
She blushed a little, but a grin broke through. "You’re ridiculous."
"And you’re everything," he replied, crossing the room to stand in front of her.
She rolled her eyes, but her smile softened. "You’re too much sometimes."
He leaned down, brushing his lips against hers in a brief but tender kiss. "Only for you," he murmured.
They stood there for a moment, wrapped in each other’s arms, before Evander pulled back slightly.
"There’s something I need to tell you."
Her brow furrowed at the change in his expression. "What is it?"
"My parents and Julian are coming over for dinner tonight," he said, watching her closely.
Her eyes widened, and she stared at him in shock. "What?"
He winced slightly. "I meant to tell you earlier, but..."
"But what?" she asked, her voice rising slightly in panic.
"I got... distracted," he admitted, a sheepish smile tugging at his lips.
"Evander!"
"I know, I know," he said quickly, holding up his hands. "But it’ll be fine. They’re going to love you."
She groaned, covering her face with her hands. "This is a disaster."
She wasn’t sure she was ready to face them.
