Chapter 104: Bond Written

Lost in her thoughts, Delphinia combed her hair at the elegant vanity in her shared room with Evander. The glow of the lamp bathed her face in warmth, catching the sleek vanity and her elegant silver comb. Her hair fell in smooth waves over her shoulders, catching the light with every stroke.

Her lips curled into a smile as she recalled the moments she had shared with Elaine, her mother-in-law. Thanks to her, she had learned so much about her mother. It felt surreal to know so much more about the woman she had once seen as a distant figure. Elaine’s gentle voice echoed in her mind, recounting how she had wanted to see Delphinia after her birth mother passed away.

"I wanted to come for you, my darling," Elaine had said, her tone tinged with regret. "But your father... he shut me out. He shut everything out."

Delphinia sighed softly, the smile never leaving her face. It was bittersweet, knowing how much Elaine had cared despite the walls her father had built. She found peace in knowing she wasn’t alone, that someone else cared for her.

She also couldn’t help but feel overjoyed at how warmly Evander’s mother had welcomed her. "Your mother and I were close friends," she had said with a warm smile. "And now, I’m thrilled to welcome you into the family."

It was more than Delphinia had ever dared to hope for. All she had wanted was acceptance, but fate had offered her so much more.

Her thoughts lingered briefly on Evander’s father. He wasn’t easy to warm up to, but Delphinia didn’t let it get to her. She kind of understood why he was like that. It was probably tough for him to handle his son getting married without a heads-up. Adjustments take time.

She knew patience and perseverance were key. One day, she would find a way to melt the ice around his heart.

A pair of strong arms slipped around her waist, pulling her gently from her musings. Warmth spread through her as Evander’s reflection appeared in the mirror, his eyes soft with affection.

"What are you smiling about?" he asked, resting his chin on her shoulder. His voice was teasing, his breath warm against her neck. "Are you thinking about me?"

Delphinia laughed, setting the comb down on the vanity. "I wish I had half your confidence," she said, turning her head slightly to meet his gaze in the mirror.

Evander feigned a wounded expression, clutching his chest dramatically. "What? So it’s not me? Now I’m hurt. My own wife doesn’t think about me when she’s smiling like that."

She turned to face him, her laughter softening into a warm chuckle. "I’m just happy," she said honestly. "Everything went so well today. With your mother... and everything else."

Delphinia felt incredibly thankful; today had brought her more than she could’ve hoped for.

Evander’s lips curved into a small smirk. "Yeah, well, finding out our mothers were friends and had planned our marriage before we were even born definitely caught me off guard. But I guess it just proves that we were fated to be together."

Delphinia laughed at that, the sound light and melodic. "Fated before we were even born?"

"Exactly," he said, his tone playful but his eyes serious. "It’s destiny."

Before she could respond, he leaned down and kissed her shoulder, his lips warm against her skin. He trailed kisses up her neck, making her shiver, before brushing his lips against her cheek. His hand found its way beneath the hem of her shirt, his touch gentle yet insistent.

Delphinia closed her eyes, leaning into his touch, her heart fluttering in her chest. Right as his lips touched hers, her phone buzzed loudly on the vanity, ruining the moment.

"Forget about it," Evander murmured against her skin, his voice deep and close.

Delphinia chuckled softly, placing a hand on his chest to gently push him back. "I really need to take this," she said, sounding sorry but determined.

"No way," Evander protested, the hint of a whine slipping through.

"Come on, Evander."

Evander groaned, pulling away with a dramatic sigh. "Fine," he said, crossing his arms as he leaned against the vanity, watching her with a mock pout.

She picked up the phone, glancing at the screen. "It’s Valerie," she said before answering.

"Hey, Val," Delphinia greeted, her voice bright.

"Hey! Are you free tommorow? Let’s go out for coffee or something," Valerie said cheerfully on the other end.

Delphinia hesitated, glancing at Evander, who raised an eyebrow, clearly listening in. "Sure, I can meet you," she said after a moment.

After a few more words, she hung up and set the phone down, turning to Evander.

"So, I’m meeting Valerie," she said with a smile.

Evander made a face, his expression somewhere between playful and serious. "I’m still traumatized, you know," he said, crossing his arms again.

"Traumatized?" Delphinia asked, raising an eyebrow.

"You know... everything with your father before."

She gave a small nod, admitting to herself that she was concerned about it as well. But she didn’t think his father would do something like that again—he’d already pushed her out. Even so, she thought it was endearing how Evander was concerned about protecting her.

"Aw, you really care about me," Delphinia teased, tilting her head, and Evander just smiled knowingly and nodded.

"Why don’t you invite her here instead?" he suggested.

Delphinia blinked in surprise. "Really? She can come here?" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

"Why not?" Evander said with a shrug. "She’s your best friend. And besides, she was my friend in high school."

Delphinia’s expression softened, and she leaned in to kiss him, her gratitude and affection clear in the gesture. Evander smiled against her lips, his arms circling her waist once more.

The soft light wrapped around them, making everything outside fade, leaving only their shared warmth. Despite the twists and turns her lives had taken, moments like this reminded Delphinia that they were exactly where they were meant to be—together.

All she wanted was for things to work out without any hiccups.
