Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 878 - 815 Corrupted Angel
"Haven’t you found a solution yet?" Triton said so, his handsome avatar smiling at the corners of his mouth, exhibiting calmness and confidence.
Raymond’s attacks were ongoing, yet his mood was far from good; even with a helmet as a barrier and the pervasive Holy Light as a deterrent, the sullen air around him was easily sensed.
"The Holy Light is omnipotent." Triton repeated the words once said by Raymond, with a touch of irony. Adorned with blazing flames, He moved His torn and tattered body closer to Raymond, reaching out His palm, watching His finger bones vaporize into ash twenty centimeters away from Raymond’s breastplate.
"Raymond, have you truly not found a method, or are you deliberately avoiding the correct answer?"
"As a rare Tenth Tier, stepping into the Divine Realm, are you really this vulnerable? Or is it that you are afraid? Afraid of your own power, afraid of your own justice."
"Shut up!" The expanded Blade of Light effortlessly sliced Triton in two, His upper body crashing into the deep tide, its regenerating limbs mocking Raymond’s helplessness.
He stood up once again, arms spread wide, looking up at the thick clouds torn apart by the Holy Light, with warm sunshine descending from the breach, not a single ray touching Triton.
"Come, let us sort out properly what exactly it is that you fear."
It’s as if He stood at a lectern, delivering a monologue, facing His sole audience, Raymond.
"After slaying the Giant Dragon father Yemotar, the Holy Light rewarded your glory, elevating you to the Tenth Tier, and according to your ’justice’, evolved a new power, the divine avatar."
"Even if your abilities are unclear, the divine properties are seldom scrutinized due to the scarcity of users. Divinity is constant; all divinity was once in my possession, the Giant Dragons took away a part, and you, having ascended to the Tenth Tier, stole a portion from me. I am well aware of what I have lost."
"Raymond Mellock, your divinity is ’Purification’. Or rather, it contradicts my ’Creation’—destruction. Limited destruction is indeed Purification."
"Do you remember the curse you left within the Giant Dragon populace? What kind of power could cause such a mighty race to vanish without a trace? They roared, bellowed, consumed, and bore offspring, yet could never halt the extinction of their kind."
"With so-called human justice as your guideline, you successfully eradicated numerous races, ushering in the age of Holy Light, the era of humanity."
"You should be venerated, gratefully remembered, and along with your angelic brothers, become the most towering symbol... But where are they now?"
Triton narrowed His eyes, His hands subtly manipulating the flesh walls to enclose them both. Raymond had no response, like a statue.
"Gallaron chose betrayal, George embraced the void, Raphael devoted to the Holy See’s corruption. And you, you mingle with a band of Liches."
"Why has your lofty justice not led to a good outcome? Because your power is not pure, what you fear is precisely the essence of Purification."
"Eradicating all powers that are harmful to humans, greater than humans. You believe in the frailty of humans who need protection. Thus, Purification has chosen its enemies."
"Giant Dragons, magical beasts, Evil Gods... and there’s more. Once all these threats are purged, what then stands above humanity? Oh, those perilous powers divergent from humanity—Liches, mages, all manner of Spellcasters. And once these are all eradicated? Then only one power remains—the Holy Light."
"The power of Purification lies in exterminating esotericism. You foresaw such an ending where your friends, your brothers, all would be executed. The God of Holy Light would transform the world into one as ordinary as humanity. Humans would become the true sovereigns of this planet, for there would no longer be intelligent species evolved beyond humanity, and the Holy Light would become merely a simple spiritual belief."
"But you cannot accept this outcome; the purity of divinity seems to misunderstand human justice. This is why you refuse to use your avatar; you would lose control, causing everyone close to you to be Purified. Your fear has spread throughout the entire Holy Light Faction, as the spokesperson for the Holy Light, your words and deeds subtly influence all Light Chasers. Your angelic brothers are well aware of this. In the end, they and you tread different paths."
Triton’s form rose upon tendrils, He leaned in close to Raymond, looming and quietly sniffing the emanating fear from the disaster of Holy Light.
"You will not Purify me, though it would be a breeze for you. The grand achievement of annihilating the Evil God would immediately trigger your state of Purification incarnation, and the world, having escaped the deep tide, would not escape the ’baptism’ of Holy Light."
"I retract my earlier thought comparing you to a deity, Raymond, you indeed resemble a human profoundly."
"The flaws of humanity, you learned that quite well. You are afraid of loss, fearful of change, and now, you will understand, in the presence of deities, how frail humanity is."
"My angels, say hello to Mr. Raymond."
The body was an indistinct mass of flesh; the melting mouth was straining to roar, behind it the asymmetrical flesh wings clung to a few feathers, dripping blood from their spiraled, tapered ends.
"Roar!" "Roar!"
To the left and right, the corrupted angels extended their sharp claws, staring at Raymond with resentful eyes through the crevices of their flesh.
"No! No!"
"Raphael..."
"George..."
Blocking the angels’ slashes, dodging the shooting flesh buds, Raymond kept repeating their names, but they could not hear him.
To purge family for justice, Raymond once thought he could do it with ease, having punished countless leaders of the Holy Light. Now, it seemed to him, it was only because they weren’t close enough.
Dodging attacks, Raymond, in his suppressed state, could handle two corrupted angels, but there was also an Evil God watching them eagerly from the sidelines.
Triton watched this drama unfold, frowning slightly.
"Not purifying them? It looks like fate has offered you a good choice."
"Triton, I will kill you!" Hand and foot bound, Raymond responded with zeal.
Pierced by a thrown spear of light, Triton changed into a new body, watching Raymond intertwined with the corrupted angels, boredly fidgeting with its tentacles.
"Shouldn’t the betrayers of the Holy Light be executed on the spot? What are you still holding on to? Waiting for redemption, waiting for a miracle?"
Raymond’s eyes widened, sparks flying as if he had grabbed a lifesaving straw.
"There is also Lyle! Purifier Lyle, he will bring us a new miracle."
Triton nodded, "A Purifier other than you, I understand you have many expectations for an uncertain factor like yourself. When I understood that outsiders were coming continuously, I changed my strategy."
"Lyle is different from you; I nurtured his body, he has a greater sense of belonging to this world. Although I still can’t peek into his destiny, I have completed a transaction with this task. Guess what the transaction is?"
"Purifier Lyle will magnify the weaknesses of Purifier Raymond."
Lying dormant in the armor, the flesh buds once left by Lyle stabbed viciously into the weak points of Light’s Reverse Scale, the Power of Holy Light began to burst forth, scattering through the gap, and conversely, Raymond’s body dimmed.
"Your brother will become your prison!"
The corrupted angel rushed towards Raymond, flesh separating and growing tentacles that engulfed the rigid Raymond. The Combined Angel with three heads, two screaming, the center one in slumber, floated in the air, scattering pale spores from its damaged triple set of flesh wings.
Triton laughed.
"My angels, let the enemies of Gods tremble."
Gods and angels disappeared into the deep tide, and no more light was scattered in the darkness.
