Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 877 - 814 Blind Foolishness
Triton clutched at the hem of his garment, observing the thin film formed by the Holy Light on the surface of His incarnation. His entire body was gilded with Holy Light, and his handsome features were highlighted by the light, embodying divinity and magnificence.
"A cage that locks powers..."
The layer of Holy Light clung to the skin, and through Raymond’s meticulous control, enveloped Triton’s surface with another layer of skin. A filter of Holy Light, it blocked all forces except for Holy Light itself, making it the most comfortable mobile restraint. However, it was also the most malicious; magic was like another oxygen for Spellcasters, blocking it not only prevented them from casting spells but also caused psychological suffocation. This mental oppression was effective against Liches and even held some influence over Evil Gods.
"Holy Light, an alien force that does not exist in my world, as domineering as you, Purifier Raymond."
The golden skin of Triton wrinkled, his body emaciated, his bones decayed, choosing self-annihilation. A new lump of sludge rose from the deep tide, forming a new incarnation.
"All my creations stem from my bloodline, they all bear my mark to varying degrees, or in other words, the void bloodline. Whereas Holy Light, recognizes the void, I am aware of the Sea of Holy Light, that mass of energy different from the sun, Holy Light is extremely exclusive and reacts against my creations." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"This is why Divine Arts scouting for evil works on them. Even the purest Saints, as long as they are my children, will react to the scouting of evil. Only truly non-created beings can remain intact during the scouting of evil; those are the Purifiers."
"I brought original sin, the pure of heart are one in a million, and outsiders like you are even rarer. Thus, they call you the Purifier, elevating the power of the Holy Light with your existence, setting an example."
"Yet, you deceive yourself by believing them, by resting on the laurels of praised superiority, whimsically tampering with my planets reliant on the unseen traits of fate. You saw yourself as a member of mankind, representing them in human justice as a ’non-human.’ Raymond, what exactly did death change in you?"
The dark gold helmet obscured the face of the King of the Crusaders, but Triton could feel all of Raymond Mellock’s attention focused on Him, his gaze still firm, his grasp on the Spear of Light still blazing.
"Evolution, ascension, always accompanied by anomalies. I do not dislike the changes brought by outsiders; those humans changed by Holy Light, the army you control, the angels you baptized, the rising human clans. I don’t care if the mists of fate obscure my view, but there’s one thing I cannot tolerate..."
His body split open by the Spear of Light, the severed head falling in mid-air twisted into evil eyes, the air polluted, flesh spontaneously generating, a mountain of flesh stretching before the Paladin. His voice screamed, the blurred words searing into the mind like red-hot branding irons.
"Aldington Mellock, your foster father, Enlightener of Holy Light, father of the sacred order, the first pope... This ordinary human’s fate changed because of you, I saw his checkered early life, perceived the noble and gentle peak of his existence. Even though it was a low point destined for me, I was thrilled by the unexpected ripened fruit, yet, when Aldington died, the soil only received his empty corporeal shell."
"His soul ascended to heaven, to that Sea of Holy Light."
"He is my bloodline! My possession! His soul! Everything of his! Is a part of me! He was part of the world, his corpse and soul would have brought forth new life in the cycle of reincarnation I predetermined. But in reality, I have lost him forever..."
"Aldington, Newland, Sfert, Azaha, Conrad, Aldrich..." Raymond suppressed his breath, listening as Triton recited the familiar names, while His tone became more dangerous.
The sleeper, in anger.
"Popes, Cardinals, the purest souls among humans, all ascended to heaven, that sea of Holy Light, a realm not of this world... it is because of your existence, Raymond. You are draining the planet itself, Purifiers, you are the real enemies of this planet, of me."
The sea was no longer calm, tendrils of flesh and blood enveloped the diminutive human figure, clouds grew eyes, and blood-soaked Evil Eyes shed tears of blood, raining blood under the calamity of Holy Light. In an instant, Raymond entered the abdominal cavity of some gargantuan beast, not through spatial transfer, but because Triton revealed the true other side of the world.
Raymond stood in the center, with deep tide forming an ellipsoid around him, feeling the most evil surveillance from the ground beneath his feet, that mesmerizing halo was indeed the gaze of the sleeper. Raymond was standing on Its eyeball.
Bolts of lightning surged straight downward, the assault on the ground didn’t explode into a mass of minced flesh as Raymond had imagined; instead, deep tide splashed water, the previously distorted apparitions in the water surface seemed merely as a reflection of a god.
"Aldington... My father once warned me, I am not a person of reason. I respond to everyone’s expectations, I heed everyone’s confusions, and my readiness to help, in my father’s view, is not true kindness. One should make choices, people always package themselves with benevolent moral appearance. He taught me to discern, but I never learned. I learned to close my eyes, entrust my judgment to intuition, because I am always right."
"I am not any idealist, I am Raymond, the justice of humanity. Whether the Purifier is a foreigner, whether my actions hurt the planet itself."
"I don’t give a damn."
"I still remember the satisfied smile when my father transformed into light, I still remember their surprise when I slew the dragons. Anything that benefits humanity, I will achieve. I practice my justice, the righteousness I presume, nothing can stop me."
The burst of Holy Light tore the flesh apart, he walked out from darkness bathed in fresh blood, no drop remaining on his armor. Triton’s flesh withered, returning to human form, with a calm expression; Raymond had not harmed his true body. Raymond’s brave stance brought a smile to Triton’s face.
"So Justice Messenger, where are your companions?"
Raymond came alone, representing a particular attitude.
"I..."
"Don’t need companions, right? [I alone am enough; companions are just a burden.]"
"That’s not what I meant!"
"Then what is it, afraid they get hurt? Worried they might die?" Triton’s face revealed a smile, at this moment, the blind and stupid god showed a cunning nature. He slowly spoke, dissecting and twisting Raymond’s inner turmoil.
"They are too weak, unable to fight alongside me. For their sake, I should battle the Evil God alone, just like when I slew dragons. Ha, isn’t that right? High above wielding mighty power, disregarding others’ sacrifices, doing as you please. You keep proclaiming yourself as human, yet you continue to act in the likeness of a god."
Raymond was not good at persuasion, he usually did not give others a chance to convince him, this assertiveness further fueled his perplexed state now, confronting a true immortal existence for the first time, the warrior who won others over with reason was somewhat disadvantaged.
He silently stared at Triton with murderous eyes.
For both beings, this was a rather novel experience.
