Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 650 - 603: Heartless Shadow
I absolutely hated this tedious guard duty, and I was somewhat fed up with that damn Raymond ordering me around from his high horse. Alright, alright, my feelings about him were mixed; I admired his personality, blathering about justice like a fool, but I despised the animal-like speed of his promotions. We grew up together, both of us innate Light Chasers, and yet he went the extra mile with his training. Now look at him, he’s the leader, and I’m just a small Angel.
[My brothers, this battle is very dangerous, you need to secure the perimeter, don’t let any monsters escape.]
MD, if it’s so dangerous, let me help fight, damn it. Pretending to be considerate and tossing me outside the battlefield, what an asshole of a leader.
I patrolled the outskirts of the Barrier even more irritably, the border area of the Dragon’s Nest covered with tall ancient plants. The terrible roars resonating from the depths were getting stronger, and my mood got even worse.
This was the oppression of the Force of the Era, that dangerous father of dragons just waiting in his lair for the next sacrifice, or his Grim Reaper.
I knew Raymond was strong, so strong it made me feel powerless, but an ominous premonition kept growing in my heart. Using the Holy Sword to leave another mark of Holy Light, I started looking for my brothers who like me were left to guard the periphery. It wasn’t a dereliction of duty, as soon as those big lizards triggered my mark, my Inquisitor would give these reptiles a taste of what a surprise really is.
There were two directions, one towards that goody-two-shoes and the other towards our little brother. Raphael was currently very weak, but I was more worried about that idiot Gallaron, who was even stupider than Raymond. At age fifteen, when a snake bit him, he actually gritted his teeth through the poison to help that problematic snake shed its skin. In the end, Raymond and I secretly roasted it and kept it from Gallaron; God knows how long he would have cried if he found out.
Gallaron was troublesome, but if you mess with my brothers, I’ll make sure you have even bigger troubles.
I’m George Edmund, the blazing calamity, the fiery Angel of darkness’s bane.
I rushed over to the area where the Purifier Legion was stationed at the Barrier. Those dumb priests who went to battle wearing only chainmail all gathered together, the converging Holy Light solidified into walls, encasing these guys in a gleaming iron tortoise shell. My brother, who only had others in his mind, was also in this dazzling Barrier.
Upon my arrival, Gallaron had a cold expression, but still cracked a small opening in the defense.
[Heart Soul Barrier], a large-scale defensive Divine Art. The heavenly sounds of Holy Light can convert any non-believer, and Purifier Knights casting with such belief turn their convictions into tangible walls. This Divine Art, a mix of material and spirit, can turn all impacts into the power of Holy Light and has the one-way characteristic where people inside can easily come out, but can’t easily go in.
"Whoa! Haven’t seen you in a few days, and Mr. Nice Guy’s become even more chicken-hearted! Even the Sealing Barrier set up by the four of us Angels can’t reassure you, huh? Had to add a Heart Soul Barrier," I looked at Gallaron’s face, that handsome face which had aged so much in this war, shadows devouring his eyes, his skin pale and bloodless. Who knew if he was on another one of his masochistic fasts. Gallaron looked like he could collapse at any moment, and even after the war, I doubted if he would ever get up again. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
In his eyes, we might as well be the Slayer of Beings, even if we believed in our justice.
Instead of responding to my question, Gallaron just turned his head away. He’d been sulking, as if all the enemies we killed became the sins he had to bear. There was no need for it, but I couldn’t be bothered to stop it; my angel brothers were stubbornly annoying in some respects.
Despite Gallaron’s unwillingness to engage, years of interaction let me see through his concealment. The idiot was as transparent as distilled water; one look and you could see right through.
I turned my head, looking towards the part of the Barrier he was intentionally hiding.
The Sealing Barrier erected by the glory won by the Holy Light’s four great Angels and the conquering Crusaders—in Gallaron’s section, there was a gap as large as a city gate. Thunder and roars, flames and bellowing constantly surged out from the center of the Barrier, through the gap, battering the Heart Soul Barrier.
"Holy shit! Gallaron! Are you staging a rebellion? Such a huge hole! Raymond’s order was not to let a single monster escape!"
"They’re not monsters, they’re Giant Dragons!" Gallaron tried to override me with an even louder shout, but it fell short, "Haven’t you executioners had enough killing?"
My temper flared up; this was a shameful betrayal. I really felt like slaughtering that sickly traitor on the spot.
"Do you even know what you’re doing? You’re going to ruin all our efforts. If even one dragon escapes, we will face endless vengeance! "
"Have you all been so brainwashed by war? The Giant Dragons are finished, their offspring barely clinging to survival. Just because of their past mistakes, do you really want to wipe out an entire race, a species? Raymond is bound to win; I’ve had this premonition for a long time, this war will turn him into a monster surpassing the father of dragons! Exterminating any living thing that resists him! What’s the difference between us and the Giant Dragons!"
I grabbed Gallaron by the collar, bellowing with all my might.
"No difference!!! But anyone who dares to hurt my people, I’ll slaughter them all! Genocide? Laughable! I’ll exterminate my enemies! Crush them to dust, and not just that, I’ll erase their existence from history!!! What’s wrong with becoming the tyrant of a new era?"
