Absolute Death Game-Chapter 319 - 88 Power to Rule the World
After trudging through the dark for over an hour and hailing a passing car, Xiao Buli could finally take a break.
The car stopped in a small town a few dozen kilometers from S City. Like other towns near large cities, it had the bustling traces of urban life as well as the leisurely ease of the countryside. There were hotels and inns, still open for business until midnight. The four of them got out of the car, and Xiao Buli handed several hundred-yuan bills to the kind driver before they walked into the hotel in front of them.
This was a hotel with the ostentatious style of a nouveau riche, decorated in golden splendor yet with a touch of vulgarity. Though the taste might not be the best, the standard was still quite decent.
Even though it was late at night, there was still food available. Having been through a lot at the base, all four were famished. Xiao Buli ordered some food and, while waiting for the dishes to be prepared, he turned to Wu Min’er and Lu Xinying and asked, "What do you plan to do from now on?"
Wu Min’er gave a bitter smile, "What else can we do but run? Do you think the Ancestral Dragon will just let this go?"
Qin Shimoon, however, said coldly from the side, "They won’t focus their energy on you, at least not for now."
Her words would have been better left unsaid; as soon as she spoke, Wu Min’er got so furious that she sharply drew out a dagger and pressed it against Qin Shimoon’s throat, saying fiercely, "I haven’t thanked you yet for your ’care’ during this time."
Luckily, they were in a private room, so it didn’t cause a disturbance.
With the dagger against her throat, Qin Shimoon’s expression remained unchanged. "You should thank me. Without me, your fate would have been even worse."
"You—!" Wu Min’er’s face instantly showed an extremely agitated expression. Clearly, she had not had an easy time recently. She applied a slight pressure with the dagger in her hand, and being an authentic military-issue tiger-tooth knife, it was very sharp. It cut a slender line of blood on Qin Shimoon’s white neck. Xiao Buli quickly grabbed her wrist and shook his head at her, "Don’t kill her, she is still useful to me."
This was of course not the only reason. Although Qin Shimoon’s past interactions with him were not many, he still considered her an acquaintance and did not think of this woman as an enemy. At most, she was an opponent, and now that she had fallen into his hands, there was even less reason to kill her.
Whether Wu Min’er stopped because Qin Shimoon truly had helped her, or because Xiao Buli’s words had an effect, she reluctantly put away the dagger.
Xiao Buli shook his head. Women are always so emotional.
He turned back to Qin Shimoon, "What do you mean they won’t concentrate their efforts on us?"
Under the control of the contract, Qin Shimoon obviously couldn’t resist, and candidly answered, "They have their own plan, and to achieve this plan, personal grievances can be neglected. Even though you’ve thwarted them, it’s not enough for them to delay their plan in order to deal with you. At most, they would use their external intelligence network to monitor you, perhaps dispatch some assassins to try and finish you off, but I guess that would be enough for you to handle."
"What exactly is this Ancestral Dragon organization?"
Qin Shimoon shook her head, "You wouldn’t want to know."
"Of course, I want to know."
"Alright, if you really want to know, I can tell you. But just make sure you won’t regret it."
"The ultimate goal of Ancestral Dragon is to rule the world," Qin Shimoon said seriously.
On hearing this, Xiao Buli almost felt an urge to laugh. World domination sounded like something out of a third-rate sci-fi movie, where some doctor invents a powerful weapon and then tries to use it to rule the world. He looked at Qin Shimoon, whose face was unusually serious. Only then did he realize she wasn’t joking.
"Ancestral Dragon really intends to do this? Are they out of their minds?"
Qin Shimoon again shook her head, "Of course not. Besides, there are many organizations with such an aim, not just them."
"There are many organizations and individuals in this world who have thought about ruling the world. Even if given the chance, I guess most national governments wouldn’t pass up such an opportunity. In ancient times, many have tried, like Genghis Khan, like Alexander, and many other emperors. Some failed, some succeeded and then failed, and over time, individual acts turned into various organizations, under different guises and slogans like Christianity, Islam, Hitler, even the CPC. They all tried to rule the world, or to ’liberate’ it, but it’s all the same, really. Their aim is to make the world accept their viewpoint or intent. Of course, world domination is the ultimate goal, but it’s not necessarily achievable. In the process, they invariably chase power and status, all part of the plan for world domination, and an extra perk. Even today, people haven’t abandoned such thoughts, it’s just that with the world advancing, it’s become more difficult."
Xiao Buli nodded, it did indeed sound plausible.
"So, how exactly do they plan to rule the world?"
"Of course, by using this game. I think you’ve already witnessed the power of this game. The most powerful aspect in this game isn’t the spells of wind, fire, thunder, or lightning, nor is it the martial arts from Inner Strength and Fighting Spirit. Rather, it’s those special abilities, such as—mind control."
Xiao Buli was shocked upon hearing this; he hadn’t thought of that. But considering the destructive power of spells and martial arts in the game, they were no match for modern weapons. Even special abilities like Qinggong and Invisibility, though magical, could be countered by modern technology. Thus, in his view, ruling the world with the power from within the game seemed impossible.
It was only after hearing Qin Shimoon’s words that he suddenly realized many skills that seemed trivial in the game would undoubtedly be defying the heavens if applied in reality, like mind control, for instance.
He had come across company-provided game materials before and was aware such skills existed. For example, a high-level ability of Necromancers called Soul Transfer Skills had this effect. This spell required a soulless corpse to use, which naturally wasn’t a problem for a Necromancer. All they needed to do was kill a person’s soul, then perform Soul Out Of Body and take over the victim’s body to achieve mind control.
If an organization could control the President of the United States or similarly powerful figures, one could imagine that this organization’s rule over the world wasn’t impossible.
However, carrying out such an operation would definitely not be easy.
"From what you’re saying, this Ancestral Dragon might actually succeed?"
Qin Shimoon nodded, "That’s right, so your choices now are quite limited. Either you choose to oppose Ancestral Dragon and prevent them from achieving their goal, because once they succeed, you will have nowhere to hide in this world. No matter where you run, you won’t be able to escape their pursuit.
Your other choice is to join them. If they succeed, you might even become a prominent figure and acquire rights others can’t imagine. But if you want to stay out of this affair, it’s almost impossible. Ancestral Dragon has suffered a serious setback and now that you know so many of their secrets, they won’t let you go."
Xiao Buli smiled, "I’m not worried. To obtain the ability of mind control, one must complete an extremely difficult mission or kill a Dark Gold-level BOSS, which might drop it. Even with Ancestral Dragon’s might, that would be difficult to achieve, right?"
Qin Shimoon nodded, "It used to be so, indeed. After all, no matter how powerful one is in reality, it’s not possible to bring that into the game. But now it’s different. Perhaps you’re unaware that Ancestral Dragon has a formidable background, one that enables them to acquire all sorts of heavy weaponry. Now, with the Six Realms Gate, they can bring these weapons into the game to fight BOSSes. Even a Dark Gold-level creature like a dragon, what chance would it have against missiles and artillery? For them to kill BOSSes and get drops is as easy as flipping one’s hand."
Xiao Buli was startled upon hearing this, a scene of fighter jets battling dragons flashed through his mind, and it indeed didn’t seem likely. A handgun could already deal 30 points of damage, so the destructive power of a missile would be astronomical. Killing a BOSS would truly be a matter of moments. If Ancestral Dragon were to expand in the game this way, what could possibly stop them?
Thinking this through, Xiao Buli felt a chill run down his spine, but then he thought it over and felt it might not necessarily be the case—it all seemed a bit too unrealistic.
Moreover, he always held certain doubts about the true functions of the Six Realms Gate. For players who had characters in the game, it was one thing, but what would happen to those who entered the door without a character in the game? He felt certain things weren’t as simple as Qin Shimoon had made them out to be.
"How do you have so many game accounts?" he asked again.
"In fact, we have far more accounts than you can imagine. This game was initially discovered by Ancestral Dragon."
Xiao Buli wanted to ask more, but just then, the waiter brought the food. Xiao Buli and Lu Xinying didn’t hold back, feasting heartily. Compared to them, Qin Shimoon and Wu Min’er ate much less, especially Qin Shimoon, who probably had a lot on her mind and little appetite—she ate only a little before stopping. Seeing this, Xiao Buli casually said, "Eat a bit more, you must be hungry too."

He had merely intended to make a polite remark, but to his surprise, Qin Shimoon, though with clear reluctance on her face, still picked up her chopsticks and took another bite, then placed them down again.
Xiao Buli found it amusing; this must have been the effect of the Soul Contract. After thinking it over, he said, "Have some soup too, this soup is really good."
Qin Shimoon mechanically picked up the spoon, took a sip, and then set it down.
"Have a piece of this pancake too, it’s quite good."
Qin Shimoon, giving Xiao Buli a complex look, asked, "What exactly do you want?" while still reaching for the pancake. (To be continued.
