Chapter 51: Chapter 4: Night Visit to the Wolves’ Den

Shen Ruoxi didn’t want to scare Chuntao, so she gave a calm smile and said softly, "I was just teasing you, did you really believe it?"

Chuntao patted her chest and said with a hint of reproach, "Miss, you really know how to frighten someone. I almost thought it was true."

Shen Ruoxi smiled slightly, but that smile seemed not to reach her eyes, and she uttered two words indifferently, "Go home."

Shen Ruoxi was well aware that whether she went to a liquor shop, a tea house, or a pawnshop, she couldn’t hide from the sharp Old Mrs. Xu. Moreover, she had no intention of hiding it from her.

She knew that Old Mrs. Xu’s time bomb was Cuicui. Once Cuicui’s injuries improved, she began to secretly lay out her plans, waiting for Old Mrs. Xu to walk into the trap.

As night fell, the streets of Capital City were shrouded in moonlight as cool as water.

A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, adding a touch of liveliness to the quiet night.

The dim streetlights cast reflections on the mottled stone pavements, creating an atmosphere that was both serene and mysterious.

Amidst the red walls and green tiles, a slender and dexterous figure moved quietly, as if merging with the night.

Her posture was light, her steps agile.

Moonlight spilled over her body, enveloping her in a layer of mysterious and sacred radiance.

Her figure flickered in the night, like a phantom.

Soon, she stopped in front of a courtyard.

All around was silent, only the occasional sound of insects broke the peace of the night, adding an eerie touch.

She nimbly flipped over the courtyard wall and leapt like a ghost into the garden.

Just as she was about to decide where to go, she suddenly heard low voices talking.

The direction was from a house not far away. She quickly moved outside the house, listened intently, and soon recognized one of the voices as Manager Yan’s.

"What did Old Mrs. Xu say?" Manager Yan’s voice carried a hint of urgency.

Another unfamiliar voice replied, "Old Mrs. Xu has already had Nanny Hou inform us; we mustn’t contact her."

Manager Yan asked puzzled, "Why?"

The unfamiliar voice explained, "Of course, it’s because of Shen Ruoxi."

Manager Yan snorted disdainfully, "What’s so fearsome about a delicate woman? Just find some men to take her down, or if that doesn’t work then..."

The unfamiliar voice interrupted him with a sneer, "You’re really boastful! Do you know who her master is? Not to mention Duke Xu, her powerful backer!

If our matters are exposed and Duke Xu finds out we did it, it’s a wonder if he doesn’t kill us all!"

Manager Yan let out a dismissive laugh, "Are we supposed to be afraid of them? What a joke! Besides, Shen Ruoxi was here and found nothing unusual."

The person responded with no courtesy, coldly laughing, "You speak so boldly! Do you think this is still West City Country? Do you think the Hierarch is still who he was?

Moreover, do you know why Shen Ruoxi came here? That night, she cornered the Young Master in Old Mrs. Xu’s room, but her martial arts are indeed lacking. Even a disciple of the Ghostly Trace Divine Hand can be incompetent.

But her background is significant, not to be provoked. So, if you ruin the Hierarch’s big plans, don’t blame me for being ruthless and skinning you alive!"

Manager Yan was so frightened by his words that he turned pale and quickly lowered his head respectfully, "Subordinate dares not!"

Yet, it was obvious he was not convinced.

The person’s expression slightly softened, and he sternly instructed, "The matter of the liquor shop must not be exposed. We need to be extra careful now. You keep a good watch, I’m leaving."

"I obey, take care, First Seat." Manager Yan said respectfully, but where the other couldn’t see, his expression was full of dissatisfaction.

Once the person left, Shen Ruoxi was already hiding behind a large tree.

She cautiously peeked out, hoping to glimpse the person’s true face.

However, she was disappointed. The person was completely wrapped in a black robe, and besides the eyes that gleamed sharply, it was nearly impossible to discern the person’s gender.

It was only because she heard the person’s voice being male earlier that she could confirm he was a man.

The person glanced around before leaping and disappearing into the night.

The person’s Qinggong was decent, likely considered above average in the world, indicating he wasn’t a major figure, just a minor role.

But First Seat? Isn’t that position only second to the Sect Hierarch of the Demon Sect?

Soon, Manager Yan also came out.

He spat forcefully on the ground, muttering indignantly, "Showing off in front of me, yet not knowing what you’re made of!"

Having said that, he pondered for a moment before stepping forward.

Shen Ruoxi pursed her lips tightly and quietly followed behind Manager Yan.

The further Shen Ruoxi went, the stronger the pungent smell of blood became, causing her expression to darken.

She saw Manager Yan stop at an iron door painted with vermillion lacquer. He looked around and, noticing nothing unusual, quietly knocked on the door.

The door quickly opened, and Manager Yan asked gravely, "How are things?"

The person who opened the door replied, "Everything is normal, except Wu Dayou being the most resistant. We gave him a few lashes, and he’s much more obedient now."

Manager Yan nodded, "Hmm, I’ll go in and take a look."

"Please, Manager." The doorman respectfully stepped aside.

Manager Yan entered the room and the doorman quickly surveyed the surroundings before firmly closing the door.

Shen Ruoxi stepped out from her hiding spot, her eyes gleaming with icy coldness.

She lightly pushed at the door but found it wouldn’t budge. She thought for a moment and then leapt onto the rooftop.

Standing still, she gently removed two tiles.

Immediately, a stronger stench of blood assaulted her senses, almost making her gag.

She clenched her fist tightly, looking down.

Inside a spacious room lit brightly, the space was divided into two cells—one imprisoning women, the other men.

The women had sallow complexions, their expressions numb, with someone drawing blood from them one by one.

A huge jar was filled with fresh blood, already more than half-full, showing how much blood had been drawn from how many people.

The men’s cage also presented a similarly horrific scene, except one man had collapsed in a pool of blood, muttering, "You will pay for this!"

Angrily, someone raised a leg to kick him.

Suddenly, the faint sound of something breaking through the air was heard, causing that person to cry out in pain, his leg going numb, collapsing with a "thud."

Manager Yan and his subordinates were startled by the sudden turn of events, looking around but seemingly not detecting anything unusual.

"Old Six, what happened?" Manager Yan asked in a deep voice.

Old Six clutched his aching leg, shouting in terror, "Manager, there are ghosts!"
