Abandoned Wife? Her Starlight Shall Blind You!-Chapter 106 - 49: Rumors Spreading Through the Army
Jun Moling was startled suddenly. In an instant, the overwhelming sensation of regaining what was lost hit him like a torrent, leaving his mind momentarily blank, and all reactions forgotten.
"You are the commander of the army. You cannot lose your sense of responsibility and commitment because of this item. Why not leave it with me for safekeeping?"
Noticing his reaction, Shen Ruoxi felt anger in her heart. Her cool voice broke the eerie atmosphere in the main tent.
It took quite a while for Jun Moling to come back to his senses. His eyes flickered with emotions that were difficult to comprehend.
He slowly reached out his hand, attempting to take back the object, but midway through, his hand fell powerless, as if he had used all his strength. His voice was low and hoarse, "Alright, you keep it safe."
Shen Ruoxi had asked deliberately, thinking that something more important than his life could never be agreed to.
However, in this moment, he agreed so readily, which instead left Shen Ruoxi in a state of stunned silence.
Such a thing meant everything to him. If she accidentally lost it, wouldn’t she feel guilty for a lifetime? She couldn’t bear this responsibility.
She always regarded herself as his lifesaver, without being polite, and he seemed unconcerned about it. Now it appeared, this behavior seemed somewhat overstepped.
Shen Ruoxi quickly stuffed the small box back into his hand, with an earnest and sincere expression, she said, "It’s yours. Although I don’t know who gave this to you and what special significance it holds for you. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
But a person’s life is only once, and you need to be clear about the heavy burden on your shoulders. You must not put yourself in danger again for a lifeless object."
Hearing this, Jun Moling instinctively rubbed the small box gently with his thumb. A gentle light appeared in his eyes, yet he never said a word.
"Let me take your pulse first." Shen Ruoxi broke the slightly heavy atmosphere.
Jun Moling tucked the small box into his bosom and obediently laid his arm flat, his eyes quietly landing on Shen Ruoxi.
After checking his pulse carefully, Shen Ruoxi relaxed her expression and said, "Your recovery is good. I’ll take my leave first and come back in the evening to change your dressing."
"There are military doctors; no need to trouble Miss Shen." Jun Moling slightly turned his head, speaking in a calm tone.
"I saved you, so I must be responsible for you to the end. I’m leaving." After saying this, Shen Ruoxi turned and left.
Jun Moling watched her leaving figure, his fingers unconsciously curling up, a trace of bitter smile curling at his lips.
His gaze lingered on the curtain of the main tent for a long time, as if it separated not only the inside from the outside but also unspeakable emotions deep within his heart.
Shen Ruoxi slowly walked out of Jun Moling’s main tent, intending to stroll outside the camp for some air.
She hadn’t walked far when she heard several soldiers gathered together in heated discussion.
"Beichang Country has lost two princes in succession, and now the garrison in Peng City is as panicked as stray dogs; we should strike while the iron is hot and take it directly!" A soldier said excitedly.
"You think it’s that simple! Bin City’s terrain is much higher than that of ordinary cities, and with surrounding wild lands, easy to defend and hard to attack; it’s not so easy to breach!" Another soldier retorted.
"Exactly, not to mention our Marshal is severely injured. People are saying... hey, stop daydreaming about it!"
"Wasn’t it said that our Marshal only suffered minor injuries?"
"You believe that? The soldiers who carried the Marshal back said he was almost a bloody man, his life in danger!"
Hearing this, Shen Ruoxi couldn’t help but ponder.
"What are you gossiping about instead of going on patrol!" A stern shout suddenly sounded, interrupting Shen Ruoxi’s thoughts.
She looked up and saw a young general in silver helmet and armor walking up to the soldiers, reprimanding them with displeasure.
"Greetings, General Sang, we are going to patrol now." The soldiers immediately fell silent and hurried away.
The young man, known as General Sang, seemed to sense something unusual, quickly turned his head, and happened to meet Shen Ruoxi’s eyes.
He paused briefly. It was no secret in the camp that the Marshal was saved by the Loyalty Marquis’ daughter, Shen Ruoxi, so this must be her.
Since their eyes met, Shen Ruoxi simply nodded graciously and smiled, "Greetings, General."
"Greetings, Miss Shen!" Sang Yu bowed and saluted.
"No need for such courtesy, General."
As the two were about to pass each other, Sang Yu lowered his voice and asked, "Miss Shen, it’s said you saved the Marshal. How is he now?"
Shen Ruoxi was taken aback for a moment, then replied, "He is fine."
Sang Yu frowned slightly, lowered his voice again, "The Marshal hasn’t appeared for so long, and everyone in the camp is saying his injuries are too severe. They say he’s just comforting us for fear of Beichang Country finding out the truth! Miss Shen, please tell me the truth."
With a calm demeanor and resolute eyes, Shen Ruoxi looked at Sang Yu and responded slowly, "General Sang, I speak the truth. The Marshal is indeed fine, just needs time to recover. The current situation is tense, do not trust those rumors lightly, lest it disrupts the army’s morale."
Sang Yu stared into Shen Ruoxi’s eyes, as if judging the authenticity of her words. After a moment, he nodded slightly, "I hope it is as Miss Shen says, if the Marshal recovers soon and restores the army’s prestige, we shall surely conquer Bin City in one stroke."
Having said that, Sang Yu clasped his fists in salute and turned to leave.
Shen Ruoxi watched as Sang Yu’s figure disappeared and kept calculating in her heart.
Jun Moling wasn’t in mortal danger, even the military doctors knew the truth. Why then did such rumors spread in the camp?
What is the reason behind this? Could it be part of Jun Moling’s plan?
Beichang Country always eyed him fiercely, dreaming of putting him to death. Logically, the defense and protection should be the most stringent.
However, she had access to the main tent several times without truly feeling that chilling, eerie murderous aura.
What exactly is he planning in secret?
After much thought, Shen Ruoxi eventually turned back to Jun Moling’s main tent with determination.
As before, there were only two ordinary soldiers guarding the entrance of the tent.
Seeing her approaching, they quickly bowed, "Greetings, Miss Shen."
Shen Ruoxi nodded slightly, "I’m looking for the Marshal."
"Please go ahead."
Without hesitation, Shen Ruoxi stepped into the main tent.
At the time, Jun Moling was discussing with Zhai Wen. Seeing Shen Ruoxi return, he raised an eyebrow and asked, "Miss Shen, something the matter?"
"I need to speak with Military Advisor Zhai."
"Miss Shen, you’re looking for me?" Zhai Wen was momentarily stunned.
"Yes, let’s talk outside."
Zhai Wen felt as if the Marshal’s sharp eyes were boring a few holes into him, which amused him. He thought, he doesn’t even speak his mind, clearly harboring feelings for her.
Besides, eye movements and reactions don’t lie. This whole life, the Marshal never bowed his head to anyone but treats her differently. Although he doesn’t know what the Marshal really plans in his heart.
"Alright."
Just as the two were about to leave, Jun Moling inexplicably felt a surge of jealousy and resentment, coldly saying, "Miss Shen, what’s there that cannot be said in front of me?"
"Aren’t you incapable now?" Shen Ruoxi retorted unceremoniously.
