Chapter 385: 385 Difficult

[Margaret’s Perspective]

I didn’t sleep at all for the rest of the night, my mind kept going over the conversation I had with Simo earlier.

To be honest, I’m not sure if Simo would convey my message to Licia, or if Licia would come to see me after hearing my words. My current situation is just too passive!

Henry’s people really have surrounded this hospital like a fortress; that’s what I discovered when I attempted to go out in the morning but was directly stopped by the guards.

The Medical Practitioner who came in to check on me just now wasn’t Simo. Of course, I wasn’t foolish enough to ask this Medical Practitioner about Simo’s whereabouts. I just silently watched him, and when he asked me to take the medicine, I waved his tray away with a flourish of my hand.

"You..." It seemed he hadn’t expected me to physically react. The expression on the Medical Practitioner’s face turned cold, and he opened his mouth as if to scold me, but then he suddenly remembered something, and the curse that was in his throat got stuck.

I raised my eyes and looked at him coldly, speaking in a deep voice, "Get out!"

The commotion in the room quickly attracted the guards at the door. They pushed open the door, stuck their heads in, glanced first at the mess on the ground, then raised their heads to look at me.

"She must take her medicine today. Someone come in and hold her down so that I can work better!" the Medical Practitioner said through gritted teeth.

I looked around at them with a cold gaze and scoffed, "I’d like to see who dares to touch me."

The guards at the door glanced at the Medical Practitioner, who was grinding his teeth, and then suggested in a stern voice, "The young master has ordered us to take good care of this prisoner; we can’t lay hands on her. I suggest you be more courteous toward her too!"

"You weren’t on duty yesterday, so you might not know about this, but she was personally brought here by the young master and Mr. Levi. Think about it for yourself—it’s best not to offend the young master over some trivial matter!"

The guard seemed to know the Medical Practitioner and gave a couple of well-intentioned reminders before closing the door of the ward.

I frowned and listened to their conversation, filled with disdain and impatience.

After hearing what was said, the Medical Practitioner seemed to calm down a bit. When he turned his head to look at me again, his tone was much more temperate. "I’m just doing my routine duty. Your diagnosis and treatment plan were all decided by Simo. If you have any complaints, you should take it up with him instead of making things difficult for me like this!"

"Fine, where is this Simo?" I asked with an apparent go-with-the-flow attitude, my face full of feigned arrogance.

He took a deep breath, then explained, "I’m on duty this morning; Simo won’t come until noon. I don’t know who you are, and I’m not interested in learning about your special relationship with the young master. All I know is that here, you are a patient, and I am the doctor. Please respect my job."

"Many people die every day on Poison Snake Island. If you don’t cherish your own life, you might as well continue to court death. After all, it’s your own body!"

The Medical Practitioner said this and bent down to pick up the items on the floor. Of course, I wasn’t deliberately making things difficult for him; it was just that things in the middle weren’t easy to explain to others, nor could they be clarified.

However, my earlier ’acting’ wasn’t without gains; at the very least, I now knew that Simo would come in the afternoon and also picked up other hidden messages in the Medical Practitioner’s words.

Such as "Many people die every day on Poison Snake Island!"

"Ha! I thought Poison Snake Island was something remarkable, but it turns out to be nothing special! With such natural advantages in terrain, it’s probably being eroded into a sieve by outsiders, right? I’m really curious how many people died here last night; after all, the commotion next door didn’t stop at all!"

As I spoke, I sneered, my gaze towards the Medical Practitioner was full of provocation, while the deeper probing was perfectly concealed.

"How do you know there was an attack on the island last night? Did Simo tell you?"

As he spoke, it was as if he had realized something. He laughed and then said with understanding, "Right, Simo used to be transferred from the lady on the east side of the island, so it’s not surprising he knows about this! But don’t think those people came to save you; the young master has already issued a Level 10 alert across the island. The perimeter of the hospital is even more secure; there’s a blockade line every 10 meters, not even a small bird can get in, let alone an invader!"

I certainly wanted to get some new information, but seeing the annoyingly smug look on the Medical Practitioner’s face, I was indeed quite speechless and irritated.

I silently leaned back onto the hospital bed, my mocking smile the only response I gave him.

Seeing that I had finally quieted down, the Medical Practitioner thought his words had scared me. He sneered and left with the medicine tray.

I watched his retreating figure and kicked off the covers, jumping out of bed and tiptoeing to peek out the window.

Just as the Medical Practitioner had said, in addition to the guards I had seen in the open before, there were now a lot more patrolling soldiers and watchtowers outside.

It seemed that Poison Snake Island had indeed been restless last night. Did he mean Licia when he mentioned the lady on the east side of the island? Who could the people coming to the island be? If they were Donald’s men, what should I do to make them notice where I am?

A myriad of questions flashed through my mind in an instant, but no definite answers were forthcoming. I crinkled my brow in frustration, forcing myself to calm down!
