A Wrong Surrogate for the CEO-Chapter 80: Got a spine
The wave of rage that slammed into Curtis at the sight of his ex fiance was crushing.
His hands curled into fists, and his entire body stiffened up as he stared at her.
The tension that descended into the room was thick and almost visible. Lara, who had no idea what was going on, looked from Vivian back to her husband.
"Get out," Curtis snapped. His eyes blazed red, and he looked like he was one step away from committing physical harm.
Lara had never seen him this enraged. She wanted to speak, but her instincts warned her not to. This wasn’t a fight she should butt into, no.
This was a fight that had nothing to do with her.
Vivian cocked her head to the side. She held Curtis’s angry gaze with her calm, collected one, and there was no sign of hesitation in her expression as she spoke.
"Don’t be rude, Curtis. That is very unbecoming of you. Besides, I did not come here to see you. I am here for your young... wife," Vivian stated.
The way she said ’wife’ grated on Lara’s nerve. Vivian had said the word like it was tainted with something... disgusting. And the neutrality Lara was trying to stick to flew out of the window.
She sat up and cleared her throat.
"How can I help you?" Lara asked. She didn’t bother to keep her voice polite, and the words came out cold. Calculating. Harsh.
Vivian raised her eyebrows at the tone.
"This one’s got a spine. That’s good for you, Curtis. I think I’m going to like her," she nodded towards Curtis.
Lara’s anger flared ay the dismissal in Vivian’s words.
"It’s kind of rude to talk about someone like they are not present when they clearly are. I am seated right here, Miss. So please stop referring to me as if I am not!" she snapped.
Curtis head snapped towards Lara as those words slipped past her lips, but Lara did not look at her husband.
Her gaze was locked with Vivian’s, who had a smug smile on her lips.
"Very well, then. I have better things to do. I just came here to prove that the pregnancy you’re carrying does not belong to Curtis," Vivian deadpanned.
Lara’s jaw hung open.
"What?"
The ex fiancé clapped her hands together dramatically before she went on.
"Seriously? You should have been more creative. I don’t know what you possibly want from him — money, obviously — but come on, girl. You can’t tie him down with pregnancy and expect to win. That baby is not his and you know it. So I think it’s better you drop the act and leave while you still can. Before it’s too late."
Lara could not believe her ears. Here she was, laying on the hospital bed, listening to Curtis’s ex fiancé who had left him at the altar years ago.
She scoffed. Lara’s expression turned into one of disdain, and she stared Vivian down as she started to respond.
Before she could say anything though, Curtis beat her to it.
"I don’t know what the fuck you think you are doing, but I am going to need you to leave. Now. I don’t want to see you ever again," he snarled.
Vivian shook her head at him.
"Still as aggressive as always, I see," she said and turned back to Lara.
"Tell me, did you think you’re going to be the sole recipient of everything he has if you push the baby on him? Is that your goal?" she asked.
Lara’s disbelief tripled, and her mind started to spin with the sheer nonsense the woman was saying.
Vivian, however, was not done.
"Let me tell you something, darling. I was engaged to this man for years. He was going to be my husband, and I his wife. We made a great couple. Everyone loved us. But what the people didn’t know, was that our relationship wasn’t perfect. There was a tiny flaw that was ruining it underneath the glamour. I tried so hard, so fucking hard to put up with it, but it was difficult. So I had to leave. Would you like to know what the flaw is?" Vivian asked sweetly.
"I think I already do. The flaw is that you were a hoe, who couldn’t keep it in her pants and slept with his best friend," Lara snapped.
Vivian flinched. Her expression morphed into a sneer, and Lara felt a thrill at the look on her face.
"Is that what he told you? That I cheated? Oh, you sweet, summer child. I never cheated on Curtis. I left him because...well, this is kind of embarrassing to say, but I guess I have no choice but to say it. I left because he was, and probably still is, infertile."
Vivian paused, definitely expecting some sort of reaction from Lara at her announcement. Lara, on the other hand, snorted.
"Really? Of all the lies you could have come up with, that was your best bet? Come on, Vivian. That’s bullshit and you know it. Curtis is my husband, and he is obviously not infertile. I am carrying his babies," Lara snapped back at her.
Vivian was silent for a long moment before she nodded and spoke again.
"Very well. I see that you’ve been brainwashed. That’s fine. You’re either brainwashed or you’re a big, fat liar. Whichever it turns out to be, the truth will be displayed for us all to see."
Curtis took another step forward.
"I am going to have you thrown out of this hospital if you don’t take your leave right now," he threatened.
Vivian held his gaze and smiled innocently at him.
"What’s the rush, darling? You know that I am doing this for you. This woman must not get away with her lie. So I suggest, that we do a DNA test."
The words hung in the air between the three of them before Curtis erupted.
"Absolutely not!"
Lara was taken aback by his sudden eruption.
Vivian smile was wide. She clapped her hands twice, and the door opened.
Curtis’s mother, Lisa stepped in.
The tension in the hospital room burned hotter.
"Yes, Curtis. Let us carry out a DNA test and see if this pregnancy truly belongs to you."
