A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality: Immortal Realm-Chapter 1284: The Three Kings
Chapter 1284: The Three Kings
The daoist priest began to undergo a transformation as he spoke, and by the end, all that was left was a dark green, ape-like ghostly creature with a wizened body.
The creature had a large head with a protruding forehead and a pair of sunken eyes, as well as a rather flat nose and mouth that also protruded outward slightly. Its fur was no different from that of a normal monkey, and it's skin was riddled with old scars.
The ghostly creature was hanging its head in a defeated manner, having just had its ruse exposed by Han Li.
"Who are you, and how are you related to Xue Li?" Han Li asked.
"I am King Gui Wu, and I once ruled over one of the three major regions of the underworld. I fell prey to a ploy meant to turn me against King Xue Li, and I sealed him on the Bridge of Forgetfulness. After that, a wedge was driven between me and the Infernal King as well, and in the end, the only one to benefit was the one who had turned the three of us against one another," the ghostly creature sighed in a forlorn manner.
Its gaze then flickered to Weeping Soul again as if it were gauging her reaction.
"You're King Gui Wu?" Han Li asked as he raised an eyebrow.
"You can just call me Gui Wu, Fellow Daoist. Right now, I have no forces under my command, nor do I possess any power, so I'm hardly a king," Gui Wu replied with a wry smile.
"I have no interest in hearing about your past. Right now, I only want to know two things from you. Firstly, why did you lead us here, and secondly, do you know where the Yama Manor is?" Han Li asked.
"I led you here because I knew that you could free me," Gui Wu replied.
"Why should we help you? We were careless and offered our help to Xue Li earlier, and he immediately turned on us as soon as we broke his seal!" Han Li harrumphed coldly.
"That's because Xue Li is a brainless idiot! He doesn't even have a head, so of course he has no brain! I'm not the same as him. I knew you could help me because of your ties with the Infernal King, and right now, I'm nothing more than a soul fragment that poses no threat to you, so what could you possibly have to fear?" Gui Wu exclaimed.
"What does this Infernal King have to do with us?" Jin Tong asked in a perplexed manner.
"Looks like the Infernal King suffered the worst fate of the three of us. Xue Li was sealed, and I was almost killed, but we were both able to survive. In contrast, it appears that the Infernal King met her demise and entered the cycle of reincarnation," Gui Wu mused as he turned his gaze back to Weeping Soul once again.
A puzzled look appeared in Weeping Soul's eyes upon hearing this, but Han Li immediately realized what Gui Wu was implying.
"You're saying that she's the reincarnation of the Infernal King?" Han Li asked.
"There's no mistaking it. Her powers and aura are completely unique. On top of that, if she wasn't the Infernal King, then why would she have been drawn to the Soul Scattering Sand on this island as soon as she set foot here? This Soul Scattering Sand was left behind by her to begin with!" Gui Wu replied.
"I'm the Infernal King?" Weeping Soul asked in an incredulous manner.
"If you don't believe me, then try and use your soul power to summon this golden sand, and its reaction will tell you everything," Gui Wu said.
Weeping Soul closed her eyes in a skeptical manner, then extended her hands forward as a layer of soul power fluctuations surged out of her body.
The entire island instantly began to rustle violently, and particles of golden sand interspersed throughout the bone powder came rising up of their own accord, drawn to the surface by a burst of invisible force. They converged to form a giant, golden ribbon that was several hundred feet in length high up in the sky, and only then did Weeping Soul reopen her eyes as she looked up at the golden ribbon above with an incredulous expression.
The golden ribbon descended from the heavens, then began to circle around her in an affectionate manner.
"You see? I wasn't lying to you!" Gui Wu said as an elated look appeared on his face.
"Weeping Soul, use the golden sand to envelop the roots of that tree," Han Li instructed in a cold voice, and Weeping Soul immediately did as she was told.

"Hey, what are you doing? How could you be so ungrateful!" Gui Wu wailed.
"Drop the act already! You only told Weeping Soul to gather the golden sand to remove a layer of the restrictions placed upon you. If I'm not mistaken, there are three seals placed upon you here in total, one of which is the golden sand, the second of which is this tree, and the final one is that box. Your soul is currently sealed in that box, isn't that right?" Han Li harrumphed coldly.
Gui Wu's expression instantly stiffened slightly upon hearing this, but he then immediately composed himself as he said, "You have a sharp eye, kid, I'll give you that. You are correct in that this seal has three components, and my soul is indeed in this Soul Locking Box. However, I was speaking the truth when I told you that all that remains of me right now is a soul fragment that poses no threat to you, and I harbor no enmity toward you, either."
"How were you able to tell that she's the Infernal King?" Han Li asked.
"Perhaps I've become more sensitive to such matters now that I've been reduced to nothing more than a soul fragment. In any case, she really is the reincarnation of the Infernal King. Many years ago, she destroyed my physical body and sealed me here with the help of the one who turned her against me, only for her to suffer an even worse fate than mine. How ironic," Gui Wu sneered.
Weeping Soul had no recollection of these events at all, so she naturally remained completely unmoved.
"I'm asking you to release me not just so that I can seek vengeance for myself. In addition, I truly do not want to see the underworld descend into a state of chaos," Gui Wu sighed.
"What do you mean by that?" Weeping Soul asked.
"Do you still remember the Six Paths Reincarnation Plate?" Gui Wu asked.
Weeping Soul shook her head in response.
"The Six Paths Reincarnation Plate is one of the most powerful treasures of the underworld, one that is able to influence the six paths of reincarnation. The one who turned the three of us against one another did so precisely so that he could obtain this treasure," Gui Wu explained.
A hint of intrigue appeared in Weeping Soul's eyes upon hearing this.
"After picking off the three of us one after another, that man declared himself the Reincarnation King and seized control over the three regions. However, not only has he not been fulfilling any of his duties as the ruler of the three regions, he has also been using the Six Paths Reincarnation Plate to interfere with the cycle of reincarnation as he pleases.
“His actions completely go against the natural order and the Heavenly Dao, and if things continue in this fashion, not only will the entire underworld be plunged into chaos, the other realms will eventually also be affected," Gui Wu continued.
"How do you know so much about what's been happening in the underworld when you've been trapped here for so long?" Han Li asked.
A wry smile appeared on Gui Wu's face as he replied, "I'm sure you've already guessed the answer to that question. All of the bones that you see here are remains of different beings that I lured here for sustenance. Otherwise, how could I have possibly been able to preserve this soul fragment for so long under such powerful restrictions?"
"From the looks of it, there must've been countless beings that fell prey to your tricks and lost their lives here," Han Li remarked.
"I've done everything in my power to survive, and at this point, I'm only just barely clinging onto life. Thankfully, you've come here with the Infernal King. With her here, not only can I be saved, the entire underworld can also be saved," Gui Wu said as he cast a hopeful gaze toward Weeping Soul.
"I have no recollection of this past life that you speak of, nor do I have any interest in regaining those memories," Weeping Soul said as her brows furrowed slightly.
Her first memories were of the times that she had spent with Han Li in the Spirit Realm, and even if she really had been the Infernal King in her previous life, that hardly mattered to her now.
"After being put through the cycle of reincarnation, you've lost all of your memories from your past life, so it's only natural for you to display such a reaction. However, if you manage to recover those memories, then I'm sure you'll feel far more inclined to help the underworld," Gui Wu said.
"Is it possible to recover memories from a past life?" Han Li asked.
"The memories of one's past life can be gleaned through the Six Paths Reincarnation Plate, which is situated on the bank of the Yellow Springs. Once you've awakened those memories, you'll be able to attain your cultivation experiences from your past life, and that will be sure to significantly enhance your law powers.
“After that, we can go to Xue Li to forge an alliance, and with our combined powers, we'll surely be able to defeat the Reincarnation King and recover the three regions!" Gui Wu said as he his eyes began to glow with excitement.
A hesitant look appeared on Weeping Soul's face, and it seemed as if she were being swayed.
"The Infernal King has returned to the underworld, the seal on Xue Li has been broken, and you and I have been reunited. Don't you feel like all of this is too much to just be a coincidence? The powers of fate are trying to bring the three of us back together!" Gui Wu urged in an earnest and heartfelt manner.
Weeping Soul cast a hesitant gaze toward Han Li upon hearing this.
"I have no interest in the power struggles of the underworld, but I am rather intrigued by this Six Paths Reincarnation Plate, so I wouldn't mind going to the Yellow Springs to take a look at it. However, before that, we have to find the Yama Manor first," Han Li said.
"That can be easily arranged," Gui Wu interjected.
"You know where the Yama Manor is?" Han Li asked as he raised an eyebrow.
"I do, and it's not far away from here. At the very most, it should only take you a month to get there," Gui Wu replied.
Han Li was quite excited to hear this, but his expression remained unchanged, and he made it appear as if he were still weighing up his options.
"I can take you to the Yama Manor as long as you promise to take me to the Six Paths Reincarnation Plate and help me recover my powers afterward," Gui Wu offered.
Han Li finally nodded in agreement upon hearing this.
"Alright, seeing as we've reached an agreement, please help me undo this seal, Fellow Daoist," Gui Wu requested with a smile.
"This Soul Scattering Sand can be easily lifted by Weeping Soul, but the other two seals are very peculiar. Would you happen to know how they can be lifted, Fellow Daoist Gui Wu?" Han Li asked.
