A Night of Desire-Chapter 99: Truly Overestimating Yourself

Clara Grant stopped and turned around to see her department director, who was staring at her with a very stern expression.

’A sense of foreboding washed over me.’ She had been so focused on dealing with Chloe Grant that she’d momentarily forgotten—the teachers and administrators could also see that article and the photos on the school forum.

But Clara Grant quickly composed herself. ’If you’ve done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear. I didn’t do it, and that’s that. Surely the school administration wouldn’t condemn me as some kind of promiscuous girl based on a few photos and deliberately misleading captions, would they?’

’It was just... I hadn’t even had a chance to use the restroom yet.’

Clara Grant ignored the many pairs of eyes fixed on her from the classroom doorway. She looked at the director and asked calmly, "Director Conway, may I use the restroom first?"

Director Conway didn’t answer right away. Instead, she shot a quick glance at Chloe Grant. After they exchanged a look, she turned back to Clara Grant and said impatiently, "This won’t take more than a few minutes. Just hold it."

Of course, Clara Grant didn’t notice the subtle interaction between Chloe Grant and Director Conway. Or rather, it never occurred to her to look for one.

She would never have imagined that Director Conway would collude with Chloe Grant for personal gain. That they were in cahoots, to the point where the director would cast aside her own authority to take orders from a student!

Since Director Conway said it would only take a few minutes, she decided she could hold it. Besides, she had always been a good student who respected her teachers and never argued with them.

Clara Grant nodded at Director Conway. When she saw the director had already turned and walked away without another word, she quickly followed.

Director Conway didn’t take Clara Grant to her own office, but to the Vice President’s office instead. After all, a department director like her didn’t have the authority to expel a student.

Once inside the office, Director Conway hurried over to the Vice President’s side and began whispering to them.

Clara Grant’s phone began to vibrate in her pocket. She pulled it out and saw the name on the screen: Miles Quinn.

After a moment’s hesitation, she glanced up at the two who were whispering to each other, then answered the call. Cupping a hand over her mouth, she spoke in a hushed voice, "Hello, Senior Quinn."

Miles Quinn’s bright, clear voice immediately came through the phone. "Clara, I didn’t realize you’d joined the cast of *A Lifetime of Splendor*! Even though Tina is a small role, it’s a great start for a newcomer. I told you, as long as you’re willing to work for it, you can definitely make a name for yourself in showbiz.

Clara, I’m so happy for you. You’ve finally taken that first step, and it’s a fantastic one."

"Thank you, Senior Quinn. I—"

She had only managed to get a few words out when she saw Director Conway marching toward her out of the corner of her eye, her face grim. Before Clara could react, the director was in front of her and had snatched the phone from her hand.

"Clara Grant, this is the Vice President’s office! We called you in to discuss a very serious matter, and you have the audacity to be on the phone?!"

With that, she immediately powered off the phone and tossed it onto a nearby table.
