A Night of Desire-Chapter 62: You Did That On Purpose, Didn’t You?
However, before he could compose himself, Jenna Quinn, who was waiting for him inside, caught a glimpse of it.
"Seth."
She immediately bounced up from the sofa, calling out to him with a smile.
Seth Quinn was clearly surprised. "Jenna?"
But he quickly schooled his features back into their usual cold mask. He walked over to Jenna, sat down beside her on the sofa, and teased, "What’s this? Shouldn’t you be at home, groveling for Dad’s forgiveness? And you have time to run over to the company to find me?"
Seeing the older sister he hadn’t seen in years naturally made Seth happy, but he’d always been the type to keep his feelings hidden.
Jenna knew her own brother well, so of course she didn’t take his coldness to heart. She sat back down, pouted playfully, and said with a grin, "Dad dotes on me. Why would he ever make me grovel?"
After she spoke, the real reason for her visit came to mind. With a mischievous glint in her eye, she stared intently at Seth and asked, "Seth, I saw you smiling just now. Tell your big sis, what’s made you so happy?" ’It was enough to melt that icy facade of yours!’
’Seth was just dropping Miles off at school, and Clara Grant is at The Nymphaea... Could he have run into her? Was that smile because of Clara?’
’If that’s the case, it proves it! Seth must like Clara Grant.’
At this thought, Jenna grew even more excited and hopeful.
Seth, however, ignored her gossipy expression and the excited glint in her eyes. Instead, he glanced at the cup of coffee on the table. "What? Your tastes have changed, Sis?"
Jenna blinked, followed his gaze, and understood what he meant.
She never used to like coffee.
"Ahem. You can blame Carter Shaw for that. He corrupted my tastes."
"So, you two have been getting along well these past few years?"
"Of course..." Just as the word left her mouth, an image of something that happened before she returned with Cherie flashed through her mind. She pouted as if in a huff, shrugged, and added, "We bicker from time to time."
Seth didn’t miss the subtle shift in her expression, and his eyes darkened. "He stole the Quinn Family’s treasure, and now he dares to treat you badly?!"
"Oh, Seth, are you actually worried about me? Your big sis is so touched!"
’Seth actually called me the Quinn Family’s treasure. When has he ever said something so sappy? It seems this big sister is still pretty important to him.’
Jenna was so moved she was almost in tears. As she spoke, she tried to lean against him, but Seth promptly put out a hand to stop her.
Jenna pouted. ’Seth is still the same as ever. He won’t let any woman get close to him—not even his own sister!’
"Since Carter Shaw isn’t treating you right, as your brother, it’s my duty to stick up for you. So tell me, should I send some guys to rough him up a bit, or should I put some pressure on his business?"
"Oh, it’s just our usual little tiffs. Nothing to worry about," Jenna said, waving her hands dismissively.
A barely perceptible smile touched Seth’s lips. Although he hadn’t visited them in the U.S.A these past few years, every time their mother went to see them, she would come back and tell him all about his sister and Carter Shaw.
He knew perfectly well that Carter Shaw treated his sister wonderfully. Besides, seeing his sister—a woman nearly thirty years old—still acting with the carefree spirit of a young girl was proof enough that she was living a very happy life.
"Seth," Jenna said, a sudden realization dawning on her as she looked at him. "You did that on purpose, didn’t you? I was asking you a question. How did we end up talking about me?"
