A Night of Desire-Chapter 52: Seth Quinn, Go to Hell
Clara Grant’s mind couldn’t keep up. "W-What do you mean?"
"It’s exactly what it sounds like. You marry me, and in exchange, I’ll give you everything you want!" Seth Quinn repeated, with uncharacteristic patience.
Once Clara Grant was sure she understood what he meant, she figured Seth Quinn was either crazy or still half-asleep.
’Hasn’t he always looked down on me with contempt? And now he’s actually saying he wants to marry me?’
’Last night, didn’t he arrogantly treat me like a prostitute and tell me to name my price? How did things make a quantum leap from a crude transaction to sacred matrimony in just one night?’
"Hah," Clara Grant sneered. "A scumbag who leaves a trail of broken hearts everywhere he goes wants to get married? Are you even worthy of talking about marriage? Do you have any idea what marriage is? It’s not something you can just jump into on a whim and then leave when you get bored!"
"But regardless of whether you see yourself as some prodigal son whose return is worth more than gold, or you think I’m an easy target to play with, or you have some other ulterior motive, I have absolutely no interest in marrying you."
’He says he wants to marry me, so I’m just supposed to marry him? Even if he doesn’t hate me anymore, I still hate him.’
It was true that proposing to Clara Grant was a spur-of-the-moment idea for Seth Quinn. However, he wasn’t just playing around like she claimed—the type to marry on a whim and divorce just as easily.
He figured that since his body was only interested in her, he would inevitably follow his desires and sleep with her.
Before he knew about her background and character, he could have just made a transaction with money. But now that he knew she was a decent woman, if he touched her, he would have to take full responsibility.
And the best way to take responsibility for a decent woman with a clean background was, of course, to marry her!
And once he was married, he would not get a divorce! In his mind, barring any unavoidable circumstances, he would only have one marriage in his lifetime. This was a sign of respect for both the institution of marriage and for his partner.
Besides, he didn’t seem to dislike Clara Grant. In fact, in his heart, she was somewhat different from other women.
While Seth Quinn was lost in thought, Clara Grant continued after a brief pause, "Besides, there’s nothing I desperately need. So, Mr. Quinn, I’m sorry, but I don’t need to trade my marriage for anything from you. The only reason I got in your car was to make things clear. I’m asking you to please stop pestering me from now on."
"You may have saved me once, but I’ve already repaid that favor with the most precious thing I had. From now on, we’re even. Let’s go our separate ways and leave each other be."
After saying this, Clara Grant tried to get out of the car, but Seth Quinn reached out and stopped her.
"First of all, I want to say that while proposing was a spur-of-the-moment decision, I’m not joking. Marriage is no game to me, so I am absolutely serious. It’s fine if you don’t agree right now. I’m not in a hurry. We can take our time."
"As for why I came here today, it wasn’t to pester you. I just happened to be dropping someone off. When I want a woman, I never have to resort to clingy tactics. The reason I’m explaining this is because I feel that since I want to marry you, it’s better to clear up any misunderstandings right away."
Seth Quinn had always been aloof and a man of few words. This was probably the most he had ever said at one time.
However, his explanation left Clara Grant feeling a bit awkward, her face flushing red with embarrassment.
’Looks like I was getting ahead of myself again. He wasn’t here to pester me at all, just dropping someone off...’
’Dropping someone off?’
Clara Grant’s face instantly clouded over with deep annoyance. ’He just dropped off some girl he was out having fun with, and in the next breath, he’s asking me to marry him?’
’Could he be any more shameless?’
"Seth Quinn, go to hell!"
Clara Grant roared through gritted teeth and turned to open the car door.
Seth Quinn was slightly taken aback by her sudden burst of anger. ’Even if she won’t marry me, she doesn’t have to turn to leave, much less angrily tell me to go to hell, does she?’
"Don’t you get out of this car!"
Seth Quinn’s tone unconsciously grew harsher. As he let out a low command, he leaned forward and grabbed her.
Unexpectedly, at that exact moment, Clara Grant had failed to open the car door after a few tries and was turning back to ask him to unlock it. Coincidentally, Seth Quinn pulled a little too hard. Losing her balance with a cry of surprise, Clara Grant stumbled right into his arms.
And so, as fate would have it, their lips pressed tightly together.
