A Night of Desire-Chapter 179: The Parents Meet
Clara Grant didn’t know if he was also hoping the matter would just fade away if ignored, or if he was deliberately letting the scandal about them run rampant. After all, he had always wanted to make their marriage public.
Or perhaps, he didn’t even know the gossip existed.
In the end, Clara Grant decided the last reason was the most likely. ’Seth Quinn is a major CEO, incredibly busy day in and day out. Where would he find the time to read such trivial news?’
Thankfully, a few days later, a newer, more sensational story broke, burying their news. Clara Grant truly breathed a sigh of relief.
The days trickled by like water, and before she knew it, a month had passed.
Over the past month, apart from her mother, the person she worried about and missed the most was Cherie.
But now, people assigned by Seth Quinn were taking care of Cherie. If she wanted to speak with Cherie on the phone, she would have to call Seth.
But she didn’t want to call him, so she held back.
When she couldn’t stand it any longer, she called Skylar Hayes. She asked her mother to go to the hospital whenever she was free so Clara could hear Cherie’s voice and chat with him on the phone.
"...Alright, then. I’m free tomorrow, so I’ll make a trip to the hospital." Unable to resist her daughter’s pleading, Skylar Hayes had no choice but to brace herself and agree. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
She had to agree. Otherwise, Clara would find out the truth.
After agreeing, she had no other choice but to call Seth Quinn.
Seth Quinn thought for a moment before replying, "Please come to my home tomorrow. I’ll come and pick you up."
Skylar Hayes was taken aback for a moment. "Would that be alright?" she asked.
’Even though Clara and Seth are married, and I’m now an in-law to the Quinn family, we’ve never actually met. I don’t know if Seth’s parents approve of my daughter. Showing up so suddenly might be too presumptuous.’
It wasn’t that she felt her daughter was inferior or unworthy of Seth Quinn just because she herself was divorced and her family’s finances couldn’t compare to the Quinns’.
Besides, Seth had been the one to pursue Clara in the first place.
But the Quinns were a powerful clan, the most prominent family in Novaria. It wasn’t out of the question that Seth’s parents might look down on her and Clara, a mother and daughter without a man to support them.
Seth Quinn understood what she meant and seemed to sense her concerns. His voice was cool yet polite as he said, "It’s no inconvenience at all. My parents have known for a while that Clara and I are married. Although they haven’t met her, they’re quite pleased with her.
They even mentioned recently that they regretted not having had the chance to meet you. This is a perfect opportunity. Tomorrow can serve as a formal meeting between our families."
Skylar Hayes: ...
’Well, alright then,’ she thought. ’Even if this is a rather strange way for the parents to meet.’
「The next day」
Seth Quinn picked Skylar Hayes up early and brought her to the Quinn family estate.
Everyone in the Quinn family, aside from Miles Quinn who was away filming, was already waiting in the living room.
The moment Skylar Hayes stepped inside, Cherie came flying into her arms, crying out sweetly, "Grandma, you’re here! Cherie missed you so, so much!"
Cherie was telling the truth. Even though he was showered with love at home by his maternal grandparents, uncle, and mother, he still dearly missed the grandma and big sister who also doted on him so much... Oh, wait. I’m supposed to call her Auntie now.
Skylar Hayes bent down, affectionately nuzzling her cheek against Cherie’s little face. "My sweet Cherie is the best boy," she said with a smile. "Grandma missed you, too."
"Cherie, don’t cling to your grandma. Let her sit down," Sienna Hale interjected. Seth had mentioned that his mother-in-law wasn’t in the best of health.
Cherie took her by the hand and led her to the sofa. Skylar Hayes didn’t sit right away, however. She first turned to greet Theodore Quinn and Sienna Hale. "Mr. Quinn, Mrs. Quinn, it’s a pleasure to meet you."
Her posture was graceful, her demeanor modest and poised. She carried herself with an air of great refinement.
"Oh, my, no need for ’Mr. and Mrs. Quinn’! That’s far too formal and makes us sound like strangers. We’re in-laws now, after all."
