A Night of Desire-Chapter 167: Experienced with Countless Women?
After Chase Childs left, Clara Grant looked at the suitcase full of new clothes and found they were, indeed, all in her size.
How could he know her measurements so well? ’Can he tell a woman’s size with just a single glance?’
’And he has the nerve to say he isn’t a womanizer?’
Hmph!
Feeling resentful, Clara Grant tossed the clothes back in, zipped up the suitcase, and shoved it into the closet.
Although Seth Quinn had said she didn’t have to go down for dinner if she didn’t want to, after some thought, she decided it would be better to go.
’What if I give people another reason to gossip?’
So, Clara Grant picked a dress and a pair of mid-heeled sandals from her own suitcase and went into the bathroom to change.
She had originally planned to wear a simple white T-shirt, jeans, and flat white sneakers, but she figured it would be better to dress a little more formally for the production’s kick-off dinner. A dress would have to do.
Even though all her clothes were quite plain, a dress was still more appropriate for an occasion like this than jeans.
When she got down to the first floor, the dinner party was already in full swing. The room was bustling and filled with lively chatter.
Clara Grant scanned the crowd, but surprisingly, she didn’t see Seth Quinn or Chase Childs.
’Didn’t Assistant Childs just say Seth Quinn was waiting for him downstairs? Why aren’t either of them at the dinner party?’
Just as she was wondering, Holly Summers spotted her. She walked over cheerfully, grabbed her arm, and said, "Clara, didn’t you call Director Keane and say you weren’t feeling well and wouldn’t be coming down for dinner? What are you doing here?"
Her words made Clara Grant freeze. ’When did I call Director Keane?’
She suddenly remembered what Seth Quinn had told her about getting some rest as he left. ’Could Seth have made an excuse for me again?’
At that thought, she smiled at Holly Summers and said, "I rested for a little while and felt much better, so I came on down."
In reality, Holly Summers knew she probably wasn’t physically unwell, but just emotionally exhausted. After all, with so many unfavorable things happening to her today, it was perfectly understandable that she wasn’t in a good mood.
She chuckled and played along. "Well, as long as you’re feeling better now. Come on, I’ll go get some food with you."
Clara Grant nodded. Just as she was about to lead Holly away, someone came over to talk to Holly. Clara motioned for her to go ahead and take care of it, deciding to get some food by herself.
Watching Clara Grant’s retreating back, the actress who had approached Holly lowered her voice and said, "Holly, why are you getting so close to her? Everyone knows the most powerful person to latch onto in our company right now is Faye Jennings.
Instead of trying to get on Faye’s good side, you’re getting close to a newcomer everyone is shunning. That’s not good for you."
Holly Summers felt a flare of anger at her words. But since she was usually on good terms with this actress, she didn’t have the heart to be too harsh, though she couldn’t stop her tone from becoming a little sharp.
"What’s all this about latching onto people? I don’t get that stuff, and I don’t want to. What’s wrong with being friends with people I click with? You’re not some big shot at the company, and we get along just fine, don’t we?
And another thing—don’t go around bad-mouthing Clara. As they say, time will tell. We don’t know who’s going to be the real big shot in the future."
The actress, having been shut down, pouted resentfully and mumbled, "I didn’t even say anything that bad about her."
"Anyway, you shouldn’t be so calculating. I’m just saying this for your own good. Now, what did you need me for?"
...
Clara Grant got a plate and went over to the buffet station. As she was picking out her favorite foods, another voice suddenly spoke up beside her.
"Clara, I heard you weren’t feeling well. What are you doing down here?"
