Chapter 137: Chapter 137: Eldest Uncle’s Happiness

"Mom, what are you saying? You’ve only met him once, and you already think he’s a good man? I told you, I’m not thinking about relationships right now. Are you that eager to marry me off?" Clara Grant whined playfully.

Though her daughter was being stubborn, Skylar Hayes saw the flustered, girlish way she acted when talking about Seth Quinn, and the blush that instantly colored her cheeks. She had been through it all before; how could she not understand?

Skylar Hayes couldn’t help but sigh to herself. ’Alas, my silly daughter... she probably does have feelings for Seth Quinn. She just doesn’t realize it yet.’

What Skylar Hayes had been afraid of was that her daughter had no feelings for Seth Quinn whatsoever. After all, a marriage should be built on some sort of emotional foundation. If Clara truly disliked Seth Quinn, then she wouldn’t have considered accepting this marriage proposal either.

However, seeing her daughter’s reaction now, she felt relieved.

So, the smile on her face widened, and she said half-jokingly, "That’s right. I wish you’d get married right now so you could give me a grandchild by next year."

"Geez, Mom, you’re so progressive. I haven’t even graduated from college yet."

"What’s there to be afraid of? It’s fine as long as you’re of legal marrying age. Aren’t plenty of college students getting married and having kids these days?"

"..."

The mother and daughter shared a few more jokes before Skylar Hayes got up to return to her room. "Don’t you have to attend the production launch ceremony tomorrow? Review your script for a bit, but get to bed early."

"I know, Mom."

After Skylar Hayes left, Clara Grant found her thoughts drifting back to Seth Quinn. ’Did that man cast some kind of spell on everyone? Not only did Sarah say he was a better match for me than Miles Quinn, but now even my own mother is telling me to consider him.’

’Hmph. In public, he’s all sharp suits and sophistication, but in private, he’s a complete wolf in sheep’s clothing.’

’Always getting handsy and forcing himself on me!’

An image of him pinning her to the sofa, kissing her, and almost... *doing it* with her flashed through Clara Grant’s mind...

"Ah!" she let out a small cry and patted her cheeks. ’Stop thinking about it! Stop it, Clara Grant! He made it perfectly clear. You’re just a woman he’s marrying to use as a tool for his pleasure! What are you getting all worked up over!’

But it was useless. The memory of his kiss, the warmth of his palms as they roamed over her body... she couldn’t shake any of it.

Giving up, she pulled the blanket completely over her head and lay down on the bed.

...

It was already ten o’clock at night. Normally, the Quinn Family’s main estate, The Plumstead, would have been silent long ago. But tonight, it was still brightly lit.

The entire family was gathered around Cherie, whom Seth Quinn had finally brought home. Cherie was a sweet-talker, and she had everyone bursting with joy and beaming with delight.

Even the features of Theodore Quinn, who normally wore the stern and unsmiling expression of the family patriarch, had softened considerably. His gaze, as he looked at Cherie, was so tender it could melt a heart.

This granddaughter of his, despite it being their first time meeting, wasn’t the least bit distant or afraid of him. She was nestled in his arms, calling him "Grandpa" again and again, so sweetly it nearly melted his heart.

"Oh, Cherie," Miles Quinn said, teasingly pinching her adorable little cheek. "Your mom didn’t dare bring you home, so you were hidden away all this time. You’ve really been through a lot."

"It wasn’t a big deal," Cherie said, leaning back in her grandfather’s arms. She lifted her small face, looking a picture of noble self-sacrifice. "Cherie is very happy to make a little sacrifice for Big Uncle’s happiness." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

"What ’Big Uncle’s happiness’?" Miles Quinn asked, confused. He looked over at Seth, who was sitting upright on a nearby sofa.
