A Night of Desire-Chapter 123: She’s Not Suitable for You
Clara Grant, who was eavesdropping from her hiding spot, was starting to lose her cool. She almost slammed her hand on the table.
’A scumbag is always a scumbag. Even though he’s married to me, he’s still out here, shamelessly flirting with another woman!’
Before Clara Grant could dwell on it, Faye Jennings’s voice reached her ears again. "Yes, Seth Quinn, I love you. I fell for you the first time we met five years ago, and I’ve loved you for five whole years. It’s just that, back then, you and..."
Knowing that name was a taboo subject for Seth Quinn, Faye Jennings tactfully stopped short. "That’s why I never revealed my feelings. I just... loved you silently from the bottom of my heart."
Listening in, Clara Grant felt a strange kinship with Faye Jennings; they were in the same boat. She had secretly loved Miles Quinn for three years, while Faye Jennings had secretly loved Seth Quinn for five. In a way, Faye seemed even more pathetic than her.
But then again, Faye Jennings was braver and luckier than she was. At least Faye was single and still had the courage and opportunity to confess to the man she loved.
As for herself, she had neither the courage nor the right.
"If that’s the case, then why are you revealing it now? What’s different about now versus five years ago?" Seth Quinn’s expression darkened a fraction, but his tone remained deceptively casual.
"Of course it’s different. Clara Grant is different, of course," Faye Jennings said, her words tumbling out in a rush. ’Clara Grant is completely different from the woman five years ago. They’re worlds apart.’
’Five years ago, she felt she stood no chance against that other woman. But now, five years later, the woman by his side was Clara Grant. She felt she not only had every right to compete, but that she was destined to win.’
While Clara Grant was completely baffled as to why Faye Jennings had suddenly brought up her name, Seth Quinn’s face grew even darker at her words. His voice turned cold. "Is that so? And how is she different?"
Faye Jennings was clearly adept at reading people; she immediately sensed Seth Quinn’s displeasure and quickly tried to explain. "I—I mean, Clara Grant... she’s too young, too naive. She isn’t a good match for you."
"Are you saying I’m too old and devious?"
"No... I..." Faye Jennings, who was normally so poised, was suddenly at a complete loss.
But Seth Quinn paid her no mind, abruptly changing the subject. "So, you’re saying that even if I had a girlfriend right now, you wouldn’t mind? You’d keep loving me?"
Without a moment’s hesitation, Faye Jennings nodded firmly. "Yes. Even if you have a girlfriend, I’ll continue to love you."
"And what if I’m already married?"
Hearing this from Seth Quinn, Clara Grant’s heart skipped a beat, and she instantly perked up her ears.
"Impossible!" Faye Jennings retorted without a second thought. ’Married? How could he be?’
"But... even if you are married, I’ll still keep loving you. When you love someone, you just do. It doesn’t matter if they have a girlfriend or a wife."
When she finished, Seth Quinn just gave an enigmatic shrug and slipped his hand out of her grasp.
He didn’t reveal his own stance.
’Clara Grant scoffed. ’Ha, Seth Quinn really is a special kind of scumbag. He just used a hypothetical to bait a woman into declaring her undying devotion, all without ever admitting he’s already married.’
’It’s so obvious what he’s doing. When the truth eventually comes out, he can just wash his hands of it all, claim he ’hinted’ that he was married, and say the woman was the one who shamelessly threw herself at him. He’ll push all the blame onto her!’
’What a high-class scumbag!’ 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
In that moment, Clara Grant was so wrapped up in her silent tirade against Seth Quinn that she completely forgot she was the one who had forbidden him from revealing their marriage.
