Chapter 85: USEFUL

"How they learned about that?" Caiden looked distraught. He furrowed his brows, as he walked beside Khaos, out of the dungeon, while a healer was called to heal Lucas's broken bones.

It was not hard to make him confessed the moment Khaos mentioned his little brother. Of course, after the meeting in the jewelry shop, he kept his eyes on that man, because he thought he was useful, but who would have thought that he was actually spying on him.

"First it's the mercenaries and now this." Caiden looked at Khaos. "Do you think there is someone, who assumed that you are a lycan?"

"There is a rumor about that." Khaos told him briefly about the information that Lucas got about the rumor that floated around among the informant and there was someone, who wanted to dig deeper into that.

Caiden then learned who was Lucas and had this weird look on his face. "You are not

suspicious of Zuri at all? Do you trust her? Do you trust what that man said about the lycan and the rumor and all?"

Both of them walked through the garden that connected the two buildings, as the sun slowly disappeared behind the tall tower.

"She could lie, she could conspire against you."

"And to whom she worked for?"

Caiden shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. Maybe the king, you said it yourself that the king approached her and asked her to be his eyes to spy on you. She could orchestrate everything..." Caiden's eyes widened. "And you told her about the lycan! Khaos! You are being reckless!"

Khaos gave him a side look and didn't entertain his idea. "There is really a rumor among the informant and the bounty."

"How do you know?" Caiden immediately jumped into his own conclusion, but Khaos stopped him sharply. "Is the information is trusted?"

"It's confirmed."

The bounty, the rumor and the person, who wanted more information about the lycan, though their identity was still mystery.

It started two years ago when Khaos was sent to Three Deadly Ways as a form of his punishment for killing one of the elder in River Creek pack, though the one, who had killed that man was actually Bryden, but if it were the beta, he would have been hanged.

More so, Khaos needed an excuse to be around the Great Palace too, thus the punishment was perfect.

"Someone must have seen you when you were in lycan form near the Great Palace," Caiden said with distress.

There was a high possibility for that, because Khaos indeed had shifted into his beast a few times during his 'punishment'.

"We need to figure out, who is that person, who wanted to dig into the old dynasty." Caiden cracked his knuckles, his habit whenever he was getting anxious. "No wonder, you have been encountered a few mercenaries lately."

Caiden knew about Khaos and Bryden's encounter with the mercenary recently and found that was a little bit suspicious, because who would want to kill the royal family openly?

Later that night, Khaos informed Zuri that they were going to go back to River Creek pack the next morning.

However, she was surprised when she learned Lucas would come with them when she saw him this morning. He didn't look happy at all. His lips were busted and there was bruise on his neck, probably more under his clothes.

"What are you doing here?" Zuri asked Lucas, as she approached him.

"I don't want to be here either," he said sullenly, as he stretched his body. "That man kidnapped me." He pointed it his finger at Khaos.

The alpha didn't even bother to tie him up and let him roamed around freely, since he got a hold of his little brother, which rendered him unable to do anything, not even to escape, since he didn't know where his brother was.

Lucas believed the alpha when he said that he would get his brother killed, if he tried to do anything funny. He told everything to Zuri.

"Can't you see what kind of monster he is?!" Lucas was fuming right now and he hoped Zuri would be on his side and talk some sense to that man, since she was going to be his mate. Yes, he knew about this information too.

However, to his surprised, Zuri looked nonchalant. "You shouldn't have spied on him."

"Are you blaming me?"

Zuri shrugged her shoulders. "You should have done your job better and not to get caught."

"What? We have known each other for so long! How could you not have any sympathy for

me?"

"This is the fifth times we met, don't act like if we were close. In the past it's only business, so is now."

Lucas was dumbfounded when he heard that and Caiden snickered, as the gamma apparently had been eavesdropping their conversation. He was still having some doubt on Zuri, thinking it was a mistake for Khaos to get her too involved.

Though he was not as harsh as Bryden to show his dissatisfaction, but he still put his guard up around this woman.

After that, they went back to River Creek pack, by this time, the weather was already very cold. It was so close to winter.

Inside the carriage, Khaos filled her in with the recent information that he got from Lucas.

"So, someone really suspected there is a lycan that's still alive and survive from the massacre? But, why the mercenary targeted you? Did they suspect you as the lycan?"

"I am still investigating that."

They talked about it for a while before the topic stirred to what happened in the River Creek

pack and also Silas's futile attempt to make Rhett opened the gates.

"Do you have any idea how to make your brother opened the gates?"

Zuri contemplated about that for a while. "I think I have a way..."

"Good." Khaos had predicted that answer. The reason why he took Zuri with him. She was very

useful and resourceful.
