A Hospital in Another World?-Chapter 830: Garrett: What? The Trouble in the Netherlands Involves Me?
Five days later, while leisurely performing surgeries and accumulating cases at the hospital, Garrett received the news with a bewildered expression.
“What? The count's son is being brought here now?”
Garrett was surprised. He had just completed a series of spinal correction surgeries for young warriors provided by the Temple of the War God. As for the patients provided by the necromancers, a few with acquired deformities were done, but the congenital ones...
He hadn't even touched them yet!
Especially with pectus excavatum combined with scoliosis, he had no idea about the surgical steps, which to correct first, what to pay attention to during the surgery, and what unexpected issues might arise!
Garrett was even considering whether to first conduct animal model experiments. But how to make animal models, and what animals to use? Rats? Rabbits? Dogs? Pigs?
Or should he grit his teeth and go straight for monkeys?
In his plan, he wanted to cure all the patients provided by the necromancers first, then publish a paper. Once the other side saw it and tried to provide another batch of patients for verification, only then could it be the count's son's turn.
“They’re sending him now? Where? Do I need to treat him immediately?”
I haven’t figured it out yet! This project is extremely difficult! Starting from scratch is even harder!
In his previous life, the orthopedic doctor they recruited at their hospital had a doctoral thesis on the order of correction for scoliosis and pectus excavatum. It seemed like it took him a whole year for both research and writing the thesis?
Mrs. Alva calmly poured a cup of hot cocoa and handed it to Garrett. She leaned back against the round sofa, smiling serenely:
“Don't rush. You have plenty of time. Here, take a sip first…”
Garrett took it blankly. To be honest, he didn't like this stuff. Ever since he created the cocoa drink to please Cirilla, this fragrant, sweet, slightly bitter drink quickly became popular among the mage community.
Female mages, especially those in the Enchantment and Divination schools, particularly loved hot cocoa:
For Enchanters, a warm, sweet drink could relax their spell targets, making them more susceptible to mental suggestions.
According to feedback from Enchanters, a cup of hot cocoa at the right temperature could increase the success rate of spells at the Tower of Songs by 3%.
For Diviners, hot cocoa was like sweet water with a new skin. A cup could refresh them, recover energy, and quickly rejuvenate a mage who had just performed a prophecy, causing dizziness and blackouts.
If Garrett knew, he would have said that divination consumes a lot of sugar, causing hypoglycemia. Rather than drinking hot cocoa, he could sell them glucose...
But Garrett didn’t like it!
He preferred plain water. If he wanted to change the taste, he’d add a few tea leaves or mint leaves.
A cup of hot cocoa to him was like a cup of milk tea with double milk, double sugar, cream top, pearls, and coconut jelly—
Help! It's too much!
But facing Mrs. Alva’s earnest eyes, Garrett could only hold the hot cocoa, pretending to warm his hands. Listening to Mrs. Alva's cheerful voice:
“The person just crossed the strait, landed in the Kingdom of Kent, and is still a few hundred miles from Nevis. A special team is already on their way to pick him up. It will take at least ten days to reach the council.”
Garrett exhaled a little, as if hearing the final exam had been canceled and replaced by a paper. Though it was inevitable, it could be delayed by ten days, which was better…
Even though ten days wouldn’t make much difference. Without half a year, this research project wouldn't be done.
“Moreover, no one expects you to treat him immediately.” Mrs. Alva watched Garrett’s changing expressions with appreciation, then continued:
“Count Ostend's batch includes his son and eight other patients. Even from the council’s perspective, they hope you finish with the current patients and are confident before treating the count’s son.”
Garrett breathed out and nodded slowly. After thinking for a moment, he couldn’t help but ask:
“Then why send them now? Could it be—”
His lips moved, trying to say “hostage,” but found it too cruel. Mrs. Alva’s eyes gleamed, and she laughed happily:
“Yes, it’s exactly what you think. Ostend, or rather the whole Netherlands, is in big trouble—”
She recounted the recent news. Garrett listened in shock, clicking his tongue:
“Is that king out of his mind? Forcing the Netherlands to rebel? And the church is crazy too? With a disaster approaching, instead of frugality and stockpiling, and calming the people, they pull this?”
No wonder Count Ostend was anxious to send his son over. To gain the council’s trust, this was a hostage;if the rebellion failed, at least he could keep a bloodline, right?
“So, no need to hurry.” Mrs. Alva’s eyes sparkled maliciously as she smiled:
“The Netherlands must be hesitating whether to resist, to what extent, or to eventually rebel. At least for a few months. The council will also watch and discuss whether and how to intervene…”
So I have at least a few months to half a year for this research? Considering the Netherlands really fights and the council intervenes, it might be a year or two?
Garrett calculated the timeline and exhaled. Thank heavens, with one or two years, he should cure this batch of patients…
Maybe even the old warriors from the Temple of the War God?
But Mrs. Alva, why are you so happy?
Seeing you like this, you seem eager to intervene? Well, with your influence on council policies, it’s not mere rhetoric…
Garrett didn’t expect that as a mere doctor, he would influence council policies. The second week after receiving the news from Mrs. Alva, on Monday morning after the regular meeting, the Lord of Thunder kept him and his fellow disciples.
“Recently, some things happened on the other side.” The Lord of Thunder's voice was calm but firm:
“As my disciples, you may not care or participate, but you must know. This afternoon, the review committee will meet to discuss the council's policy on the Netherlands. Legendary mages will attend, and you should also stay and listen.”
Garrett: ...What?
We are to listen to such diplomatic policies and grand strategies?
How thrilling!
